THE RASNOV CITADEL

LOCATION OF THE CITADEL

The citadel is located in Rasnov city in Brasov district. The Rasnovcitadel guarded the entrance in Transilvania.

The fortress is located on a rocky hill, surrounded by forest, where the only access is from the east. Its architecture is adapted to relief.

DESCRIPTION OF THE FORTRESS RASNOV

The typology is demonstrated by its size, approximately 3500sqm and the materials used for lifting the fortifications were stones and bricks fixed with simple mortar.

The access in the proper cidadel it’s throw a

place surrounded by walls of stone.

The fortress has two courts: the outside court

and the inside court.

The outside one is called “the garden of the

citadel” and there were sheltered the cows.

In the inside court were the houses of the

inhabitants witch have the role of shelter and

pantry in time of war.

On top of the hill was

built a school.

In 1650 a chapel was

built and its wall could

be seen nowadays.

THE TOURISTS

Today, tourists can visit the Rasnov Fortress

and its art museum, where are exposed

weapons, tools, galleries, antique furniture,

prints, armor, specific ports of the century,

various copies of documents from that time. In

the museum are exposed some unusual

objects of the century like a mask of torture

and a yoke which was used to transport

prisoners.

CELEBRITY

In 2002, the Rasnov area was very known after

the american filmmakers chose to film “Cold

Mountain”, the protagonists were Jude Law and

Nicole Kidman. The film was awarded with one

Oscar.
