Serious Fun!We take insurance seriously but not

so much ourselves, so flick over the

page and you'll see we're having a

bit of fun with a new Star Camper

Care promotion just launched to

the dealer network. Whether the

RV purchaser deals with a broker or

a dealer we want to make sure the

Camper Care brand is at the forefront

of their mind, and your mind, when

making a decision about Motorhome

& Caravan insurance.

On a business front we just ticked

over another financial year with

excellent results. None of this would

be possible without the support of

our brokers and dealers throughout

NZ. So while winter might now be

upon us, myself, Litisha & Rob will

be putting on our coats & travelling

the county delivering some sweet

treats to say thanks.

Elsewhere in this issue I'll tell you

about my recent trip to Vietnam

and you can spot some photos of

your colleagues at our recent broker

functions & motorhome shows.

All RV’s If you’re looking to insure a

motorhome, caravan, fifth wheeler,

converted bus, campervan, horse

truck or pop-top then we can help.

The caravan tow vehicle is also no

problem for us. Our participation

at the major motorhome shows,

along with our support of some

caravanning clubs and national

advertising means we’re a recognised

brand among RV owners.

Inside & Outside

We provide cover for all the RV’s

fixtures and fittings (providing it’s

included in the sum insured). So your

TV, mattress, solar panels, etc are

all included. We’ll even throw in an

additional $3,000 cover for personal

contents (subject to item limits in

the policy wording) & this can be

increased on request.

Agreed Value

All our policies are Agreed Value up

to 5 years (for new vans brought from

a dealer), or 3 years (for second-hand

vans purchased from a dealer). Even

after 3 years we can re-agree the

value for a further 3 years, and then

for another three years after that

and so on.

Journey On

A 24/7 nationwide breakdown

service is included with all

CamperCare policies. There will

always be someone from our New

Zealand based customer service

team at the end of the phone and

ready to help. The client just needs

to quote their rego and say they are

a CamperCare customer.

We do it ourselves

We handle all queries, underwriting,

processing and authorise all claims

in-house. Our assessors are in regular

contact with repairers and RV dealers

around the country so there’re

experts when it comes to fast and

efficient claims resolution.

Star Insurance Specialists launched the CamperCare product back in 2010 and since then we’ve grown to become the leading supplier of Recreational Vehicle insurance in New Zealand. Here are some friendly points about the CamperCare product which might help sell it to your client.

It’s a better road with CamperCare

Something a bit different. We can tailor a policy to suit your

client’s unique needs. We’ll look at

RV’s which are permanently lived

in or used for business purposes

(subject to our underwriting criteria).

Storage and restoration covers are

also available for that guy who’s

brought an old bus with the long

term intention of kitting it out.

They love our dog. We treat our customers like family

& they like us too. Did you know

that some of our clients have even

brought dog biscuits along to the

motorhome shows for Bailey

(our mascot)!

Our Rapid Response to RV Insurance!

We’re always keen to make promoting Star CamperCare easier, so both you and your clients will recognise it’s the best choice for RV protection in NZ.

Because our insurance product is

advertised nationally and sold both

by insurance brokers and the dealer

network it is a recognised name

among the RV community.

We like to keep this industry fun,

so our Key Account Managers

are out delivering “first aid” (ie.

coffee & biscuits!) & providing our

Motorhome and Caravan dealers

with a new suite of promotional

material. For Insurance Brokers this

means your clients will be familiar

with the CamperCare brand when

asking you to insure their new

motorhome or caravan.

Each of our Key Account Managers

have been an integral part of the

team for many years, so if you’ve got

an emergency, they’re only a phone

call away! Here’s a bit more about

each of them!

Even though Litisha (Tish to her

friends) is our only female in the

Key Account team, she more

than holds her own. The fact she

is Gisborne born and bred might

have something to do with that!

She left home when the bright

lights of Auckland and then

London beckoned. She trained as

a school teacher but thankfully

only corrupted the minds of British

children. That experience drove her

to alcohol - she enjoys wine and

gin, well anything really. And along

with her fur baby, Bowie, is how she

copes with us all in the insurance

industry, where she has been for

7-years. She likes to travel and

recently got married, so we hope

to see some lush pics from exotic

places soon.

John’s a keen traveller who is

passionate about our beautiful

country, especially the South Island.

He loves adventuring around the

mainland so much so that he

moved down there and is now living

on a farm in Southland, milking

cows in the weekends!

Thankfully he still visits us in the

Auckland office and is a familiar face

at all the annual motorhome and

caravan shows. John’s been in the

insurance game in NZ and Australia

for over 20 years and has amassed

a wealth of knowledge. He loves his

music and strangely, likes taking

photos of trains! Oh…he also edits

our quarterly magazine, The Hub,

so you should probably expect some

Rob is married with 4 children,

which means he comes to work for

a break. When not working diligently

for his clients he’s always on the

go, which is lucky because he’s an

active relaxer. In summer Rob and

family enjoy time on their boat,

and during winter he carves up the

slopes at any number of favourite

winter wonderlands. As an active

member of Auckland’s 4wd Club,

he gets his hands dirty fixing cars

and working on his highly modified

Nissan Safari. His wife’s into cars

too and owns a car dealership that

specialises in 4x4’s. Handy. So you

might say that cars run deep in Rob’s

veins. Cars have been part of Rob’s

professional and personal life since

forever. So it made sense for him to

become an automotive insurance

specialist. He’s worked in insurance

for 10 years and lept at the chance

to work for New Zealand’s premier

niche insurance specialists (that’s us)

a few years ago.

The Good Purpose Kitchen

Attainable recently moved into new

Go South

I do, I do, I do!

The marvel of modern technology

means it’s possible to work from

almost anywhere, even the depths

of Southland. While Invercargill might

not have originally been on the

company radar, it appeared on the

radar of Key Account Manger John

Edie last year.

John’s been looking after our South

Island brokers and dealers for the

past 4 years and has now based

himself in Invercargill where we’ve

rented some office space and set

up systems so he’s got the computer

and phone access to work as if he

were in our head office.

John’s promised to visit the Auckland

office at least once a month and will

continue his travels around the lower

north island and south island regions.

In his spare time he’s keeping busy

milking cows!

For all those who’ve been hearing about Litisha’s recent wedding, here’s an official picture of the big day when she married Glen. They recently enjoyed a weeks honeymoon in Fiji.

Travel log – Vietnamese city of flowers.

During a recent holiday in Vietnam I headed to their central highlands area and a place called Da Lat. A bit like the Vietnam version of Queenstown this town of 400,000 people is fast becoming a popular tourist destination. Here are some of my highlights.

High up, low temperatureThe town is located 1500 metres

above sea level next to a lake so

the weather is generally cooler in

contrast to the rest of Vietnam. We

visited in March and experienced

clear blue skies, zero chance of rain

and temperatures in the mid 20’s.

Blooming fabulousDa Lat is famous for its wide variety of flowers, vegetables and fruit from its

surrounding farmlands as well as countless nature sites. It’s often referred

to as the “city of flowers” and the best place to witness this is the impressive

Flower Gardens which features more than 300 different kinds of flowers,

many of which blossom all year round. The park also has water features,

large floral archways, a giant cactus garden and orchid greenhouse.

Vietnamese city of flowers!

Travel log – Vietnamese city of flowers.

The PalaceFor a treat we stayed in historic

luxury at the Dalat Palace Hotel

which was built by the French in

the 1920’s. Located on a hill with

impressive views over the lake it

offers cordial service and elegance

right in the centre of town. The

colonial style rooms feature ornate

furnishings, wood floors, floor-to-

ceiling French doors & chandeliers.

We sat on the balcony enjoying a

few cocktails while looking out over

the gardens and lake. A royal treat!

Fried crickets and Weasel coffeeWe visited a cricket farm where they

farm the insects for food. Apparently

they are full of protein! Following

a look through the bins full of live

crickets we were presented with

a plate of dead fried crickets. I ate

a few, they are crunchy and best

eaten with your eyes closed!

Weasel coffee is apparently a

delicacy, and the worlds most

exclusive cup of caffeine. Basically

the weasel animal eats the coffee

bean from the tree, the enzymes

in their stomach add flavour to the

bean and reduce the caffeine, the

weasel poops out the coffee bean.

Barista makes a cup of coffee with

the pooped out bean (cleaned first).

Yes, I had a cup but it tasted much

the same as any coffee!

The MarketsThe quiet streets of Da Lat come

alive at night when the town is

transformed into a busy market

place selling clothes, plants, fresh

meat and punnets of strawberries.

There’s plenty of street food on

offer and a great atmosphere. If you

like something cooked in an actual

kitchen there are many restaurants

to choose from.

Cable CarWe took a ride over the hills on Da

Lat’s 4km gondola. The cable car

runs from Robin Hill across pine

forest and farmlands to the Truc

Lam Zen Monastery on Phuong

Hoang Mountain.

The people behind the scenes.

Meet the Broker

Sheryl Rooderkirk Provincial Insurance Brokers

Masterson

I started at Provincial Insurance

Brokers in 2004 as the receptionist,

my first role in the industry.  I stayed

there for three years and completed

my first ANZIIF qualifications. After

stints with underwriters and other

brokers I came back to Provincial

two years ago, predominately

looking after our rural clients.

I live in amazing Martinborough.

There are incredible places to wine

and dine and lots to do for both

my 7 year old daughter Jorjah and

I. We enjoy heading to Lake Ferry

or Ngawi & to the beach on most

sunny weekends for fishing. We

love the outdoors and try and enjoy

it as much as possible, the Wairarapa

is a beautiful place.

I spend a lot of time in the

community. I enjoy attending

business networking events

which leads me to meet lots of

potential new clients and build solid

relationships with my existing ones.

Crombie Lockwood

Auckland

I started in the Insurance Industry

straight out of school in 2015,

working for IAG as an Insurance

Consultant. In June last year I joined

Crombie Lockwood as a Personal

Lines Broker & I’m enjoying the

variety that my role brings and the

great team of people I get to work

alongside. I’m still learning heaps

& constant changes within the

industry certainly keeps me on

my toes.

I have a very close-knit family so

like to spend time with my two

nephews who are both 3, it’s so neat

to watch them learn and grow. I am

keen to experience what the rest of

the world has on offer so I plan to

arrange an overseas trip later this

year. I would be keen to attempt

skiing in Japan and visit New York. I

am passionate about cooking and

find it relaxing and a way to unwind!

Sarah Leach Team Leader

Brand Support

I’ve recently joined Star Insurance

as the Team Leader of the Sales and

Customer Service Team. Previously

I'd worked in the travel industry for

9 years, but decided it was time to

try something new. I was born in

Canada (you'll notice my accent

when you call) but migrated to

NZ 7 years ago after meeting my

husband in Italy and following him

home! The best place I've travelled

to is Iceland.

Outside of work my hobbies are

walking our dog, especially up

north in Mangawhai were we have

a family bach. We are in the process

of building a house in Auckland so

a lot of our free time is spent at the

building site and working with the

builders. Finally I'm proud mother to

an 18 month old boy called Ollie.

Brad James

I’ve spend 10 years in the industry

and joined the GYB team 4 years

ago. We’ve recently moved to a new

bespoke office in Avalon, completed

a complete upgrade of our IT

infrastructure and growing our busy

team from 4 to 7!

My main interests outside of work

are enjoying craft beer and a good

whisky! My sporting passion is

Baseball and so far I have managed

to visit 4 Major League Baseball

stadiums in North America with

a goal of eventually checking out

all 30! I’m headed back to San

Francisco in June 2019 to watch

my Giants take on their bitter rivals

the Los Angeles Dodgers.

My wife and I have recently built

a new home in Whitby where

we reside with our 18 month old

Focus: You cannot be good at everything

and it is hard to be great at more than

one thing, so pick the one thing you

are going to become great at & focus

on it. (Note however even after 30

years, I am still improving!)

Consistency: Focus is useless if you are only

focused every now & then. It is

showing up time after time which

makes the difference.

Patience: If you are focused & consistent, then

let time work for you. Results will

come when they come. Focus on

the system, not the goal

So often one thinks we need more to

be successful. More outside funding

for our start up. More software

programs or productivity tools to

handle our to-do list. More business

contacts, a bigger network. More

clothes or cars or credit cards.

But maybe what we really need is

less. Maybe what we really need

are fewer distractions & more focus.

Maybe what we really need are a

few carefully chosen constraints to

narrow our energy to what really

matters rather than compiling a

bunch of resources which pull us

away from what we actually need

to do.

Many get so obsessed on the goal

we forget it is the system which

matters. Some people, including

many leaders get so distracted with

the outcome they overlook the

repetitions required to get there.

They become so focused on the

short-term results they forget to build

the long term habits which make the

real difference.

It is very possible eliminating

distractions, not accumulating

resources is the best way to

maximize your potential. What is the

minimum you need to succeed?

I go to my local swimming pool typically 4 days a week & one of the greatest lessons I have learned from swimming is there are three simple things you need for success.

Consistency & Success

How to Make It Step 1

Heat a grill pan over medium-high. Sprinkle pork evenly with salt and black

pepper. Add to grill pan; cook, turning occasionally, until a thermometer

inserted in thickest portion of meat registers 57°C, 10 to 12 minutes.

Transfer pork to a cutting board; let rest 5 minutes.

Step 2

Meanwhile, cut jalapeño in half crosswise. (If desired, remove and discard

seeds.) Finely chop 1 jalapeño half. Thinly slice remaining half crosswise into

rounds. Place chopped jalapeño, peaches, mint jelly, vinegar, and brown

sugar in a small saucepan; cook over medium-high, stirring occasionally,

until thick and syrupy, about 4 minutes.

Step 3

Cut pork into ½-inch-thick slices; arrange on a platter. Spoon peach mixture

over pork. Sprinkle with sliced jalapeño rounds; garnish with cilantro.

should read these, a lot of people

don’t, probably because they simply

don’t understand them.

One Star CamperCare difference is, our

policies are easy to understand. Despite

this, we still encourage our customers

to ask us about anything before

approving their insurance policy.

You see, we believe healthy

relationships are founded on honesty,

transparency and trust. It’s a two-way

street, with respect going both ways.

So we don’t hide behind baaad lawyer

speak that is impossible to decipher.

Smart Kiwis enjoy being in the

driver’s seat when they choose

Star CamperCare. You can too.
