The Pyrenees -- Pilgrimage, Heresy, And Courty Love

The Pyrenees: Land of Pilgrimage, Heresy, and Courtly Love 14 days from $3650 (airfare, lodging, most meals,  and ground transportation included) Le Puy-en-Velay (beginning point of journey)  You are invited to join a tour of Southern France and Northern Spain. The trip will follow the ancient road from southern France through the Pyrenees Mountains, to the medieval pilgrimage destination of the Cathedral of St.  James (Santiago) in Compostella. This route was one of the most popular “tourist packages” in the medieval West. Travelers set out from many starting points in Europe and all converged on Compostella, believed to be the final resting place of St. James, one of the original Apostles of Jesus of Nazareth. This area is very rich in history, especially since it comprised the border region between Christian France and Muslim-dominated Spain. Its history fuses the cultural influences of medieval Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. It also formed part of the ancient Roman Empire, so there are many sites along our route that contain spectacular Roman ruins. Camino de Santiago in Spain
