Project Objectives

• Develop a “whole community” approach to NEET Prevention through Out of School Hours Learning.

• Look at devising, through a shared experience and building on best practice – an early identification methodology for target group 8-14 identification methodology for target group 8-14 year olds.

• Facilitate interventions to support young people’s engagement and involvement in learning opportunities.

• Facilitate interventions to improve access to resources/funding for learning for 8-14 year olds.

Hedfan Budget Overview

Total Project Budget = £500,000

Actual spend 2012/13 = £198,244

Underspend carried forward to be re-profiled across 2013/14 and 2014/15 = £78,456across 2013/14 and 2014/15 = £78,456

Budget re-profile submitted to ESF team at Welsh Government early November to ensure maximum benefit of ESF funding can be achieved – awaiting outcome of proposal.

Key findings continued…..

There is a gap of innovative styles of learning that link the physical activity to core literacy and numeracy accreditations, and common gaps in provision available include limited;

• Out of school hours learning opportunities on weekends

• Holiday clubs• Holiday clubs

• 8-11 youth clubs

• Homework clubs

• Organised groups with long term sustainability plans

• Involvement of parental participation in OSHL

Once the cluster groups are formed and key actions are drawn out then it is hoped that these gaps can be explored further and included in local action plans.

Hedfan – In Summary

The project will work with key partners including Communities First to:

• Ensure a strategic focus is given to OSHL

• Identify a target group (8 – 14 year olds) within the population of those most at riskpopulation of those most at risk

Hedfan update

• Consulting with children, young people and families on the mapping of provision of OSHL for 8-14 year olds.

• Identifying and sharing information on need and provision with partners through the distribution of the Hedfan Community Learning Profiles which includes the audit of provision of out of school learning opportunities for 8-14 year Community Learning Profiles which includes the audit of provision of out of school learning opportunities for 8-14 year olds.

• Creation of Community OSHL Directories

• Working to promote effective collaboration between OSHL service providers, and facilitate bending of resources to target provision within Communities First areas –setting up local networks.
