Worship Discussions HeldIn late October and November members and friends who attended the late service on Sunday were asked to take part in some polling and some discussion of possible changes in worship time for this service. The Worship Ministry Leadership Team, chaired by Lay Leader Dave Leege, led this polling and discussion. They had decided to do this after recognizing that there had been a steady drop in attendance at this service from summer to summer since 2017 and this decline was also noticed in the other seasons of the year. The drop was greater for the late Sunday service than for the early Sunday and Saturday services. Since the late service has the largest attendance and presuming that it is the one that will most likely be the entrance point for new members, the Worship Team was concerned and investigated how to improve this service.Noticing in some research that many people prefer an earlier worship service, since starting at 11 am often means they will not emerge until after noon, the Team explored with worshipers whether they would be open to beginning at 10:45 am or 10:30 am. The ensuing discussions after worship and in conversations with individuals and staff showed that more people were concerned about the wide variety of orders of worship and styles used at the service. Advent Worship: “Come, Lord Jesus”

“Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest . . .” so begins the common table prayer. During Advent services we will apply this petition to Advent devotions. Through short and simple daily practices we will learn to pray, “Come Lord Jesus” in a way that gives strength and hope. “Daily devotions” sounds like a huge challenge. Whether you are a household of one, two, three, or more, having daily devotions can be a struggle. Our Advent series will use God’s word to equip disciples for this struggle and provide simple and effective ways to help meet this challenge. With God’s help we can learn to daily pray, “Come, Lord Jesus,” not only to bless our food but our lives. So join us at noon or 7:00pm on Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11 and 18, to learn to pray “Come, Lord Jesus” as a source of strength and hope.

Thank you to the congregation and school families who participated in Operation Christmas Child. This year, we collected over 160 shoeboxes! Due to your generosity,

children around the world will be blessed with the love of Jesus. Thank you, Olivia Frego.

The recent Baby Bottle campaign raised just over $1,200 for Sanctity of Life, which is a lot of baby bottles! Thank you, Mecia Rockett.

The Holy Comforters are thankful for the near $850 that has been raised so far by selling their handmade quilts! This money will go towards Lutheran World Relief!A full report will be given in next month's newsletter. Thank you, Mary Lion and the Holy Comforters.

Thank You Prince of Peace, for Your Generosity!

POP Hypothermia WeekDecember 29, 2019 – January 4, 2020Prince of Peace has been partnering with FACETS to serve our homeless neighbors for 10 years. Each year we open our church home for one week, to those who need a warm, safe place to sleep. The shelter opens at 5:00 pm each evening. Guests receive a hot meal prepared by our meal teams and enjoy fellowship with our members. We also provide breakfast the next morning and a sack lunch to go. The shelter closes at 7:30 am each morning. We typically serve over 250 guests throughout the week. This year we are allowing guests to stay all day on New Year’s Day so we will also need volunteers to come in throughout the day.How You Can Serve? • Shelter Volunteers: Volunteers make the week happen and jump in wherever needed. • Youth Volunteer Teams: Our youth teams support the Sunday Set up and daily cleaning of the fellowship hall and sleeping rooms. • Food Donations: The week depends on the generosity of those who shop for and donate the many food items needed to serve our guests. Choose a few or as many items on the list and deliver on the date noted.

Don't miss out on this excellent opportuinty, sign up with the link below!

Warm Clothing NeededWe will be collecting warm clothing for our Hypothermia shelter guests. Please consider donating new or gently used jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, pants, jeans, scarves, gloves, etc. All sizes appreciated, for adults only, men and women. The collection box will be in the narthex during the month of December. As you consider gifts for family and friends, please consider a gift of clothing or outer wear for our Hypothermia guests who could use something new or new to them. Sue Sweet at [email protected]

Volunteer’s Make a Difference at Prince of PeaceYou may wonder if your volunteer hours at Prince of Peace make a difference. I would like to tell you that they make a very big difference. During the first week in November we had to have a 24/7 fire watch while the fire panel was updated. I checked with a company that does that and their charge was $36 per hour. That would be $864 per day. The men at Prince of Peace stepped up to fill the need and we were able to save the funds. Some of our volunteers include:

This is certainly not a full list and we have many others who dedicate their valuable time, but for ALL who volunteer their time in the house of God, WE THANK YOU! If you have not had the chance to volunteer, please contact us here at the office and we will help you to find your place of service. Blessings, Brad

Sparklers Christmas LuncheonFriday, December 20 11:30-1:00pm, Fellowship Hall

Seniors, our next monthly luncheon will have ham as the main dish so please bring a side dish to share with the group. We will be singing Christmas Carols. Sing up sheet is in the hallway leading to the Kitchen. Bring a neighbor or a friend!Roger Burd [email protected]

Worship Discussions (Continued from Page 2)At best this left many with confusion about what they could expect on any given Sunday and at worst folks felt a sense of chaos about the worship at this service. The Team heard the concerns of these discussions and decided to use a stable order of worship each Sunday. We will continue to have at least three songs sung by the congregation. At least one of these songs will be a hymn from the Lutheran Service Book and another song will be a well-known Christian praise song. In some instances, a traditional hymn in a more modern musical setting will be used instead of the traditional four-part setting. The order will include Confession and Forgiveness, lessons, Children’s message, Sermon, Creed and prayers, including the Lord’s Prayer each week, with Holy Communion offered on first, third and fifth Sundays. Since there was an openness to use Living Water's praise team and HIMnals, the Team also plans to incorporate their leadership about 8 times a year (once a month but skipping December, June, July, and August). This practice will begin immediately and will be used on November 24 and following. If you have worship questions or concerns, please make contact with Dave Leege or another member of the Worship Team (Jane Leeling, Sara Wilson, Brian Poe, Barbara Bryan) or staff to the Team, Pastor Gary or Director of Music Ministry Michael Rossi.

Women of the Word SundaysSundays, 9:45am--10:45am, room 13 downstairsA welcoming group of women will be studying Ann Spangler’s book, Praying the Names of Jesus. This book focuses on helping readers understand the biblical context in which the names and titles of Jesus were revealed, in order to gain a more intimate knowledge of His plans for their lives. Each chapter is independent of the previous ones, so come on down and join us for a time of fellowship and study. Mary Elizabeth Sorenson [email protected]

Faith ShapersTuesday, December 10, 7-9pm, room 21Faith Shapers will discuss A Listening Life: Embracing Attentiveness in a World of Distraction by Adam McHugh. In this noisy, distracting world, it is difficult to truly hear. People talk past each other, eager to be heard but somehow deaf to what is being said. Listening is an essential skill for healthy relationships, both with God and with other people.

Author Adam McHugh places listening at the heart of our spirituality, our relationships and our mission in the world. Listening shapes us and equips us to be more attuned to people in pain and more able to minister to those in distress. Please come and hear what God is doing in you and the world. [email protected]

Senior Pastor Call Committee ReportThe Senior Pastor Call Committee has received the next list and have started phone (Skype) interviews. There were 12 on our list as truly potential candidates. Remote interviews will be completed next month and we will plan for a Town Hall in early January to discuss in-person visits. It is our current goal to have a call service prior to the start of Lent. We have several great candidates and I am excited to introduce the Congregation to them. Continue to pray for discernment as we seek our new Senior Pastor.

BoSL Listening PostsWe have decided to modify the monthly BoSL listening posts to include members of the L10. As many of the issues that are raised during the Listening Post are operational in nature, it would be good to have a member of one of the core Ministry teams to address them on a rotating basis. We will begin this new format beginning with the first Sunday in January. The meetings will still take place during the Sunday School hour on the first Sunday of the Month in the Church Office. It is our goal for the Congregation to have an ability to express themselves to leadership so that we may serve you better. In Christ, Dave McLean, Chair, Board of Servant Leaders

Please consider bringing in new unwrapped toys to benefit
