The Polar Express
Webquest created by Mrs. Seese
New Words
• On a sheet of paper keep a list of new words that you hear or read during the story.
• When the story is over and you have a complete list use DICTIONARY.COM to find the meaning (you can use a real dictionary too).
Illustrations (pictures)
• Using a blank sheet of paper draw a picture for each new word. Illustrate how you “see” the word in your “head”. Play a movie in your mind of the new word.
Word Patterns
• We have been working with the digraphs:• sh, th, wh, ch, ck. Make a list of words from
the story that you read of words that have these digraphs. Sort the words into digraph lists.
Characters
• Who are the main characters of the story?• Make a list of the main characters. These are
characters that have a main role in the story, they appear consistently throughout the story.
• Choose two of the main characters and make a list of describing words for each character (happy, sad, mean, nice, etc…). Then write a sentence for each character describing them.
Ending
• At the end of the story the bell is found and everyone is happy. How could the story have ended differently if the bell had not been returned to him? Write a new ending with at least two paragraphs and remember to check for spelling and punctuation.
The Moral of the Story
• A moral is a lesson learned.• What is the moral of The Polar Express?• Is there more than one moral? • Write your answers in complete sentences!
