How They Created

They were created in 1924. Art Rooney was the founder of the

Steelers. They were originally called the Pirates. They were added to the NFL in 1933.

The 30’s

Steelers were not good in the 30’s Had a combined record of 18-55-3 Jap Douds was the first coach of the

decade There was also 5 coaching changes in the

decade.

40’s

In the 1940’s the team changed its name from Pirates to the Steelers

In 1942 the Steelers posted a 7-4 record, earning their first winning season in franchise history.

Not enough players because of the war so the Steelers joined the Eagles to make the Steagles

50’s

Art Rooney uses a 20th round draft pick to select QB Johnny Unitas In 1955

The Steelers in the 50’s we just as bad as the previous decade

There was optimism when the Steelers picked up bobby lane but still the Steelers were not successful

60’s

In the early part of the decade the Steelers were just as bad

The Steelers were the last team to ad a logon on their helmet

The logo was for U.S. steal but they put it on one side to see how it would look.

There was a lot of optimism in 1969 with new coach Chuck Null and rookie Joe Green

The glory decade of the 70’s

The Steelers were very successful in the 70’s

They when to their first super bowl in 1974 and won after 40 years of frustration.

They will also go to super bowls 9,10.13,and 14 in the decade.

They will also produce many hall of famers in the Decade

The decades defense also had a name called the steal curtain

New decade with the same old problems

as the Steelers went into the 80’s the team got worse

The team that was so great lost most of its stars from the 70’s

In 1985 the Steelers went 7-9 breaking a 14 year streak of not having a loosing Steelers

In 1988 the Steelers owner Art Rooney died just ten years before the 88 season started

The Comeback Decade

The Steelers showed improvement in 1991 with the new quarterback Neil O'Donnell

In 1992 the Steelers started a new era with bill Cowher

In 1995 Bill Cowher and the Steelers will be in the super bowl but the Steelers lost.

The Steelers had hope the next year when they picked up Jerome Bettis but the Steelers never got back in the playoffs

The new millennium In the early 2000’s the Steelers showed a

lot of progress after coming off a losing Record the year before

In 2004 under rookie Ben Roethlisberger the Steelers went 15-1 but lost In the AFC championship game

In 2005 the Steelers won the super bowl against the Seahawks and Ben became the youngest Quarterback ever to win a super bowl

In 2008 The Steelers would also go tothe super bowl and win

What to look Forward to?

In 2010 the Steelers would once again go to the super bowl but they lost to the Green Bay Packers

The Steelers have a lot to look forward to with the new talent they have acquired in the draft

The Steelers are one of the top team in the league and don’t expect to step down soon
