How To Clean Glass Shower Doors The Easy Way

I love Pinterest because of stuff like this. It really shouldn't be life

changing, but it is.

I have very hard water where I live. My shower doors are usually

covered in a gross combination of hard water deposits and soap scum.

I'm really embarrassed to show you my "before" photos, but you must

see them to truly appreciate what a miracle this do-it-yourself cleaner is.

In the past, even after I'd cleaned the glass, it wouldn't look much better

because the glass cleaner just couldn't cut through this caked on crud.

Can you believe it! This stuff works! You're dying to know the secret

aren't you? Well here it is.

I found this DIY cleaner on here and here and it is fantastic because it

works!

Here's the recipe:

8 oz. (1 cup) of warm vinegar

8 oz. ( 1 cup) of Dawn

That's it! I put the vinegar in the microwave for about two minutes to get

it warm. Then mix the vinegar and the Dawn in a spray bottle. One cup

of Dawn seems like a lot to me, but I guess you need that much to cutthrough the scum. It makes sense. If it can cut through grease and

baked on food, it should be able to cut through yucky shower scum!

I sprayed the Dawn and vinegar mixture on the glass and scrubbed with

a sponge. I really didn't have to scrub hard or for very long. That

stubborn stuff came right off! I had a bucket of clean water to wipe off

the soap suds. When I was done, there still seamed to be a little bit of

residue on the glass so I just used the glass cleaner I usually use to give

the doors a final wipe. Now my shower doors look as good as new!

There have been quite a few questions about this post. Here are some of

the common questions and the answers.

What is Dawn?

Dawn is a brand of liquid soap used to wash dishes.

Will a different brand of soap work?I used Dawn and didn't test any other brands. If you try another brand

and it works, leave a comment and let me know!

I forgot to warm up the vinegar. Will it still work?

Yes. After cleaning the glass the first time, I had plenty of cleaning

solution left over. I used the left over solution a few months later and

didn't warm it in the microwave. It still worked!

Has anyone ever tried "JET DRY" in the spray bottle to keep it fromspotting? Or rubbing a small amount of vegetable oil into the glassand then squeegying it off? Or the rain product they have at the autostore for windshield wipers so the water beads up and rolls off yourcar? Just wondering?

Awesome! When I built my house I requested to have textured glass so mysoap scum wasn't able to be seen as bad.I will have to try it! Come over and say, starting to follow you know. Cameover from Riverton Housewives!

Will any dish soap work or do you think it has to be Dawn? I use a Mr.CleanMagic Eraser with just a scant touch of moisture, it cuts through the scumthoroughly then I finish with Windex. It works great but your way it muchcheaper! Thanks,Jenna

I haven't tried with any other brands of dish soap, yet. If I do, I 'll postthe results.

Hi, I was inspired and tried this out on my all glass shower today. Itworked great! I actually thought I bought Dawn soap at the store butwhen I was putting the equal parts into the spray bottle, I realized itwas Palmolive. But, that brand worked nicely!

Isn't this stuff great?! I've been using it for about two months and ampleased with the results. I did read a ton of reviews online and everyonesays for whatever reason, the blue Dawn works best. I'm visiting from It'sOverflowing.

Dawn is a miracle worker! I use it for so many things. It takes grease stainsout of clothing better than any stain remover. I just squeeze a little onbefore I throw them in the wash and the stain is gone. I recently found thissame recipe. Hadn't tried it yet, but will this week. This may just be my answer. What is there about that blue Dawndishwashing liquid that is different? When my dog got skunked, the "magicpotion" the vet told us to make to get rid of the smell included Dawn. No

I tried this on my shower door and it didn't really make that much of adifference. We don't really have a lot of soap scum, just water spots that willnot disappear no matter how hard I try to scrub them off! Did theDawn/vinegar cut through water spots?

Another crazy thing that works on shower doors is a wet dryer sheet. I didn'tbelieve it until i tried it. Works like a charm, and the bathroom smells great,too! Wet down a dryer sheet, rub it on the shower doors, then rinse.

Great tip! I used to live in Florida and the hard water was a nightmare. Now Idon't have the problem on the glass I have it on the tile. Go figure. I alsofound the new Magic Eraser for Bathrooms works great on the showerdoors. I don't know about hard water but it might be worth a try. Defiantlytrying this solution on my tile though. I found that any cheap bathroom cleaner and one of those magic erasersponges works great for the hard water deposits. I just get them at the dollarstore. Love this idea too!

How long do these results last? I tried the pledge furniture polish methodand it was great until the next time I showered. The glass looked just as badas it did before. Also, how often do you use this to clean? Do you do a daily

spray on your glass as well? Sorry for all of the questions!!! I'm going to trythis today!!!

This cleaner does a good job of keeping the glass clean. It lasts acouple of months. I don't clean the shower doors daily. I only cleanthem when they start looking bad, once every couple of months. Ido use a squeegee to wipe off water from the doors after eachshower. That helps to prevent some of the hard water spots.

This worked fairly well for our glass shower door and glass walls. Probably60-70% better. Hard water stains do persist, however, so the next step isfinding a product for the last 30-40%. I have heard that once the glass isstained, it requires very, very fine sanding.

Our glass shower doors came with a warning label, not to use regular glasscleaners. They gave no other options, so I am happy to find your formula. Ithink for that final residue you have, just use crumpled up newspaper. Thatis what my mom and grandmother always used to make glass shine.

This works wonderfully. And to keep the doors clean, I polish them with atiny bit of lemon oil (Old English). This will protect the shower door andmake the water run off!

I just tried this on the inside of my shower doors. Worked great. I sprayedthem down generously then used a window mitt on them. Rinsed with myhand held shower. They are sparkling clean!
