LADIES AUXILIARY MEETING Sunday September 30 & Sunday October 28
Nomination of Officers The nomination of members to be officers of the
Club for the 2013 year is to be held at the October
meeting, October 28.
All officer positions and three board members are up
for nomination and election. The current officers are:
Eric Devine, president; George Shea vice president;
James Feeley, treasurer; and Joe Walsh, secretary.
Three board seats are open. The present members
coming off, after serving a two year term are: Jackie
Cavanaugh, and Tara Keefe; Michael George is up for
reelection having completed Tom Ryan’s term on the
Board.
If you would like to nominate any member for an
elected position, be at the October meeting to ensure
your favorite is nominated for the post that you would
like to see filled. The election will be held after the
November meeting. ♣ ♣ ♣
Ladies Auxiliary Nominations The Ladies Auxiliary will also have nominations for officers at their October meeting. All officers are up for nomination, with the present officers being: Presi-dent: Mary T. Crowley; Vice President: Kathy Joyal; Treasurer: Marilyn Eleck; Secretary: Mary LaLonde; and Membership Secretary: Margaret E. McLane. Come to the October meeting to insure that the peo-ple you want to lead the Auxiliary, are nominated.
14th Annual Music Festival The committee would like to thank the many volun-
teers who donated their time to make this a very suc-
cessful festival. We will present a full report on the
festival at the September members meeting. We had
great volunteers, as usual, and it made the day a great
success. It made for a very enjoyable and successful
festival. Thanks to our many new volunteers this year.
We hope to see you and the “veteran” volunteers
back next year for our 15th Annual Music Festival on
August 12, 2013. The volunteers help make this a ma-
jor fundraiser for the club, and it could not be
achieved without them!
Another group that deserves our accolades is the
attendees of the festival. Without patrons there could
be no event. So, our hats are off to all those who at-
tended the festival.

2012/2013 Monthly Breakfast One of the more popular events at the Club is the monthly breakfast. This year the date for the first breakfast is Sunday October 7. With the start of a new year, the volunteers are ready to go. Please show the numerous volunteers how much you appreciate the effort that they put into the delicious breakfast and show up on October 7. The breakfast starts at 9:00 AM, in the upstairs hall, and runs until 11:30 AM. Come and enjoy a great break-fast. The price of admission stays constant at $6.00 for adults and $3.50 for children 10 and under.

Trivia Returns for New Season Tom Feeley announced that he will be running the Trivia program again this season. It starts on September 13th at 7:00 PM, and in October it will be held on the 8th also at 7:00 PM. After that, Trivia will continue to be held on the second Saturday of each month. The format remains the same, with a table costing $20.00, no matter how many people are at the table.

Ladies Auxiliary October Supper The October supper for the Ladies Auxiliary is sched-uled for Thursday, October 25, at 6:30. It will consist of salad, chicken, ziti, rolls and dessert. The cost of a ticket is $11.00. There will be the usual raffles, and anyone wishing to donate to the raffles can call Mary Crowley, or any member of the commit-tee. Tickets may be obtained by calling Mary or any committee member. Another item of interest is that the men do the serv-ing and cleanup for the women’s supper and do a great job of it. However, there are always a few tasks that go into putting on the supper, and the committee would like to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to volunteer for the event. If you would like further information, you can call Mary Crowley at 739-5717. All help is greatly appreciated and volun-teers are what makes the work easier.

The Great Blasket Island Bursary Dear Friend of The Great Blasket Island: It has now been over a year since the creation of The Great Blasket Island Bursary as a special way to perpetuate the legacy of our beloved Island. I am delighted to report that the response from the Blasket community both in Ireland and in the United States has been enthusiastic. I am especially gratified by the many generous financial contributions received to date. Last September, I was honored to participate in very well publicized ceremonies at The Blasket Island Center awarding the first two scholarships to Aisling O’Sullivan and Colm Galvin. It is very important that we grow the Bursary to a sustainable level for the future. Accordingly, I humbly ask that you consider making a contribution to the Bursary in 2012/13. Any contribution would be deeply appreciated by me, the members of the Advisory Committee, and by the young people of West Kerry. It’s a great way to share the fruits of our success with the families living in the land of our forebears. There are multiple ways to contribute. Remember, no contribution is too small. You might send a check as a way to celebrate holidays in an especially significant way. Or, you might make a contribution at any time on your own behalf or in memory of a loved one. The Great Blasket Island Bursary. c/o The Blasket Island Center; Dunquin, Ballyferriter, Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland.
Very truly yours Michael J. Carney Oldest Living Native of The Great Blasket Island

Half Way to St. Patrick’s Day The Music Festival has no sooner gone by when we
start thinking of St. Patrick’s Day. The Half Way to St.
Patrick’s Day in particular. This year the festivities will
be held in the downstairs lounge on Friday, September
14. This will give plenty of time to talk about the
holiday celebrated in 2012 and look forward to the one
to come in 2013. So come to the Club and enjoy the
festivities and look forward with anticipation to the
2013 celebration.
♣ ♣ ♣
Things to Look Forward to There are many events scheduled for the rest of the year. Among those that have not been listed in the current edition of the newsletter are: Wednesday, November 21: Cheeseburgers in Paradise Night. Start Thanksgiving off right with the night before at the club. Saturday, December 15: Members Christmas Party. No explanation for this affair needed. Sunday December 16: Children’s Christmas Party. Registration form will be in November/December Newsletter. Friday/Saturday, December 21 & 22: Pat Garvey returns from Washington DC for two nights of entertainment.
JBO Bus Trip to Boston We have planned another bus trip to Boston this fall on September 15. The bus will be leaving the John Boyle early Saturday morning with a destination of John Boyle O'Reilly's grave site. In a short ceremony, we will lay a wreath of flowers, sing the national anthems, and read one of John Boyle’s famous poems. At the conclusion, we head back to the bus where we will depart for the Quincy Market section of Boston. You have the rest of the day to enjoy the many venues the city has to offer. This trip was very successful last year, and we don’t expect seats to be available for very long. So call Eric Devine at 413-222-0676 (or email him at [email protected]) to reserve your seat now! All seats will need to be paid before they are guaran-teed. The price will remain at only $25.00 per person, and it’s open to members and their friends
♣ ♣ ♣
Bachelor Supper The Bachelor Supper opens the 2012/2013 run on Friday, September 21, and continues on the third Fri-day of the month until Friday, June 15, 2012. The entrees rotate around four specialties: chicken, sausage/meatballs, porketta and ragout; a stew like combination of pork/beef. The meals round out with bread, ziti and salad. The entire meal is all you can eat/family style, and the cost is only $13.00. The March meal is a special of corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes with the signature salad. Most meals are crowded, especially the March special, which will be held on Thursday, March 15, but if you are interested in going, see Steve McGirr or Pat Burns. A seat will be found for you and any friends you wish to bring along.
♣ ♣ ♣
Springfield Parade Committee The Springfield Parade Committee is sponsoring their
annual fund raiser, which is a chicken and ziti dinner
on Tuesday, Sept 5th, in the upstairs hall at 6:30 PM.
The benefit is to support the activities of the commit-
tee, including colleen contest and parade expenses.
Tickets are $10.00 per person and can be purchased
by contacting Kathy Sullivan at 413-783-4445, or
Patty Ferrarini at 413-782-3509. Tables of ten may be
reserved.
Along with dinner, there will be door prizes and a raf-
fle to raise additional funds. Please support the parade
committee and all the work that they do.
