grim Pension Plan as a sound method of providing retirement benefits for aged Pilgrim ministers, and Whereas the Rocky Mountain Conference has declared its endorsement of the plan, and Whereas action taken at the 1954 General Conference makes it mandatory for each local church to participate in the plan, we therefore recommend that every church, no less than once each quarter, send to the District Treasurer an amount equivalent to four percent of the pastor's salary as the conference con-tribution to the Pension Plan.

DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT June 30, 1958

To the pastors, evangelists, and delegates of the Thirty-seventh An-nual Conference of the Rocky Mountain District of the Pilgrim Holiness Church — GREETINGS in the name of Jesus. A source of unfailing com-fort in the past year has been the promises of God. Only recently the Spirit has called to my attention that His promises are immutable. The dictionary tells us that which is "immutable," "in not capable of change." "That by two immutable things, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope that is set before us; which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast," Heb. 6:18, 19.

OUR PLACE I am a firm believer that in God's great scheme of things the Pilgrim

Holiness church has a place. We are not the only people serving God, but we are serving Him, and unless we reach those He has in mind for us to reach they will go into His presence without having made preparation to stand before Him. We must win them thru the Sunday School, the Young People's Society, the Missionary Society, the church services and perhaps out largest field is that everyday contact in the daily lives of all of us combined, the ministers and the laymen.

OUR WORKERS God has given us a group of Spirit called and Spirit filled workers

to carry on the work of the Rocky Mountain District. Our pastors are uncomplaining, many of them are living on inadequte salaries—much credit in making the dollar reach is due to the lady of the parsonage. God bless our faithful preacher's wives, who under testing circumstances have kept the parsonage neat and presentable and their family a credit Io the church and community.

OUR SPIRITUAL PROGRESS In spite of the fact that we are living in the Laodicean Age with its

accompanying looseness and luke warmness, I feel that God is helping us to keep spiritual. There have been trials and battles perhaps in every local church, but out of the battle has come a depth of spirituality that has been most gratifying. We dare not give over to the spirit of the age at this point, nor dare we in any wise turn back.

OUR LOSSES This past year has seen four of our faithful ministers taken from

our midst. Rev. A. F. Poff, retired, went to his reward in the month of October. He will be long remembered for his faithfulness to his calling and his kindly spirit. Another to answer the call to his reward was Rev. J. V. Hickman. Brother Hickman had been a faithful pastor and preacher until last conference. The last part of November he was called higher. His deep piety and jovial spirit will be greatly missed. Two others who slipped from us this past year were Rev, and Mrs. Charles Luscombe. These precious ones were pioneers. They came to the Rocky Mountain District from the old Peoples Mission. Many will rise up in eternity and call them blessed. God bless their memory. Yet another, tho not a member of this district, and few of us present had the opportunity of knowing

— 13 —

her personally, yet knowing she is gone leaves a void in our hearts. This college and much of the Rocky Mountain District is a lasting monument to her memory, along with her sainted husband. This writer felt greatly humble in having the opportunity of preaching Mother Lee's fimeral. God bless her memory.

OUR PROPERTIES AND IMPROVEMENTS There have been substantial improvements made by some of the

churches and most all are endeavoring to keep their property in good repair.

Both Arthur and Bellvue have installed modern plumbing—a much needed and appreciated improvement in both places.

Bethel, our third church in Colorado Springs, has installed different seats.

Boulder has continued on its new building, the ceiling and indirect lighting is all in. It is planned to have the dedication service some time this conference year for this fine new church.

Canon City also has put in a new acoustical tile ceiling in the church Denver has completed its lovely new brick church with a few in-

cidentals yet to be added—a lovely place to worship. Lewellen has completely remodeled its church, with the ceiling

lowered and the inside re-decorated—a credit to our church and to the local community.

McCook has a parsonage moved in and it is a fine improvement on our property there. Many favorable remarks have come from the neigh-bors.

Nob Hill has connected the basements of the church and parsonage, this adding to their Sunday School facilities.

Oshkosh has re-decorated the interior of the church. Much needed re-wiring has been done in the Pueblo church. Rocky Ford has begun work on their new church. Sutherland church has installed a new heating plant.

OUR DISTRICT CHURCH EXTENSION The district and two of our convention zones are partly supporting

our church extension work. These churches are Lincoln, Tecumseh, and Holdrege in Nebraska and Grand Junction in Colorado. Lincoln is fully organized and making fine progress under the capable leadership of Rev. J. H. Fortner. Tecumseh is making good progress under the faithful hand of Sister Stewart. The work at Holdrege, our newest venture, is laying a solid foundation under the spiritual leadership of Rev. Bob Sander. At Grand Junction the outlook is much brighter. Brother and Sister Cole-man have been the capable and sacrificing pastors here. Brother and Sister Coleman have done a splendid work in Grand Junction. They have been able, under God, to win for us the confidence of the people of the community. Blessings on them, they have been faithful—may God con-tinue to bless them even in their retirement. We look forward to an abundant harvest of their sowing under the reaping of Rev. R. G. Hamil-ton.

I suppose a word at this point concerning the work at Albuquerque is in order. It his seemed for the best interests of all concerned to turn the work in that fine southern city over to the General Church Extension Department. This means a loss of considerable property to the district as well as a loss to the district of 23 members, Thank God not all of these are a loss to the church, but it does leave us with a minus 23 on our statistical report.

— 14—

OUR BIBLE COLLEGE This has been a good year as far as my relationship to the college

is concerned. Dr. Wert seems to be the man for the hour and I feel God has wonderfully blessed him in his work among us. My relationship with him, his faculty and the students has been encouraging. I would urge everyone of our pastors and people to give to our college our most sin-cere support. Under God we must have pastors, evangelists, missionaries and other gospel workers from this western school.

OUR FINANCES AND MEMBERSHIP The overall picture for the past year financially is good. We have

fluctuated a bit in some departments, but all told the picture has been conparable to previous years. Our statistical report will show that this year has been the first year in some time that we have not made a mem-bership gain. The loss was only two but we confess that that number is is to large. We realize that we are not striving for membership primarily, but for souls, we are made to wonder if a numerical loss is not an in-dication of a lack of vision or even a spiritual lethargy.

OUR CAMP MEETING God has given us a most wonderful camp. I feel all have appreciated

the Spirit annointed messages of Brother Philpot and Brother Goins, our evangelists. The spiritual singing of the Buntings was of the highest type and brought down the blessings of God time after time.

PERSONAL REPORT In the conference year just past I have preached 104 times, have held

27 church meetings, and 17 local church board meetings. I have also con-ducted all the annual church meetings this past year. I have traveled for the district 18,152 miles in my own car and several miles by other means of transportation.

It his been my privelege to visit all the local churches at least three times and some of them more. While visiting the churches I have assisted in communion services, dedicated one baby, and had the privilege of receiving some members into the church. I have conducted or assisted in four funerals, and one wedding. It was my privilege to attend the super-intendents meeting at Indianapolis in January, also I have been to all the official meetings of the Bible College board.

As I look back over the past year it seems to me that my services have been meager enough, however, the longsuffering of my brethren has been abundant in my behalf, and the mercy of my Heavenly Father has over-shadowed all else.

Respectfully Submitted,

L. E. Scheridel

MEMOIRS We, the committee on memoirs present the following:

Mrs. Florence Lee went to her reward at the age of 98. She was not a member of our district, but we owe much to the labors of her and her husband. In 1910 they built the school building which is now the Colo-rado Springs Bible College. They were superintendents of the Peoples Mission which emerged with the Pilgrim Holiness Church which gave us our first church in Colorado Springs.

Rev. Albert Poff quickly slipped away to be with the Christ he loved and served at the age of 72 years. The early part of his ministry was mis-sion work and all during his life he was interested in missions.

—15—

He was ordained when the church was first organized and faithfully served for 45 years. He was a member of the Rocky Ford church.

At the age of 59 years God called Rev. J. V. Hickman, another faith-ful servent to rest from his labors. He was an ordained minister of the Pilgrim Holiness church and a member of First Church of Colorado Springs. In his early ministry he helped start several churches. He trans-ferred his membership to the Pilgrim church in July 1945 and was faith-ful and loyal to the cause of Christ. He looked forward to his home going.

Rev, and Mrs. Charles Luscombe, members of the First Church of Colorado Springs were pioneers of the Holiness work and sacrificed much for the cause of God. Both ceased from their labors this conference year.

Henry Slater, member of the Benkleman church, passed away at the age of 84 years. His last testimony to his pastor and friends was "I am ready to go and be with my Lord".

Mrs. Mary Marymee a member of the Bladen church went to her reward after living to the age of 90 years. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a woman of few words, who talked about no one.

Mrs. George Hamilton, age 72 years, a member of the Stratton church rested from this life. She will be remembered as a woman that carried a burden for the work.

At the age of 68 years Elizabeth Roark went to be with the Lord. She was a member of the Sutherland church. She spent much time in prayer in behalf of her church.

Mrs. Mary Pezoldt passed away on Christmas Day at the age of 77 years. She was a faithful and devoted child of God and loyal to the church. She was a member of First Church of Colorado Springs.

Cindy Livingston, little two-year-old twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Livingston, was transplanted to Heaven last October. Her parents are members of the Lewellen church.

TO MEET IN HEAVEN To meet in Heaven, how sweet the thought,

When life's short years are past, No more to weep, no more to part,

To meet in Heaven at last.

To meet in Heaven, 0, Blessed thought, All care, all suffering o'er,

Meet in the mansion of the blest, And love for ever more.

To meet in Heaven, around the Throne, Of Him who died to save,

Be this our hope, our anxious care, To meet beyond the grave.
