THE PERFORMANCE POST Where Swimmers Excel 02 AUGUST 2017 – Number 12 Hi Everyone, Welcome to your latest Performance Post newsletter for the new Performance Squad. All the text highlighted in green means TAKE ACTION. I hope you like it J BLUE ANGELS I have been promoting the US Navy Blue Angels as a fabulous example of teamwork. In order to achieve success (flying in formation at incredibly fast speeds), then each pilot has to have massive trust with his team mates to ensure safety. These planes are literally less than one arm span apart. TARANAKI TEAM BUILDING TRIP Well done at Taranaki. It was great to see you all supporting each other. Thanks to James, David, Paddy and Damon for being such good captains. TEAMWORK I have seen some great improvements in your teamwork mindset. Well done Team! Keep encouraging your team mates to push on. If we all pushed on (when the easy way would be to try less or sleep in), then we would achieve amazing things. Remember, “If you are not prepared to help your team mates be the best, then turn around and go home”. FEMALE ATHLETE WORKSHOPS Girls – Make sure that you attend the workshops on Friday and Saturday. They will be brilliant J Boys – you will be training together on Friday and Saturday. A great opportunity to bond together and push each other more ADAM PEATY What a star Adam Peaty is. He went to the World Champs not to defend his 50 and 100 Breaststroke titles, but to ‘attack them’. He is the best example of having a growth mindset. He trains incredibly hard, is absolutely fearless in workouts and racing, and has a very close partnership with his coach Mel Marshall. A couple of tips from Adam are: 1. Everyone can train hard, not many people can train smart. It’s your lifestyle, those 18 hours (per day) outside the pool that are going to make the difference. 2. Go in there with no fear. You’ve got nothing to lose. TURN TILES This is part of your squad equipment. Please get this sorted this week and start using them. I have seen big improvements on turns and streamlining from those that use their turn tile every day. GOALSHEETS These will be returned to you all very soon. In the meantime, make a start on improving your processes. See me if you need any extra help, videoing or toys / gear to make it work. OLYMPIC GAMES 2020 Tokyo, 2024 Paris and 2028 Los Angeles … which ones will you be racing at? SEE WITH YOUR BRAIN Use you brain to feel, see and hear what you are doing. You will improve your skills much faster. Can you solve this one?

In order to achieve success (flying in formation at incredibly fast speeds), then each pilot has to have massive trust with his team mates to ensure safety. WORLD CHAMPS Wow … Budapest put on quite a show. The standard of swimming was excellent (usually the year after the Olympics can be a touch slow). There were 6 individual world records. Most of the winners were leading at half way which shows that you need to be out pretty fast. Most of the winning times fulfilled the race model (as illustrated in your goalsheet). One striking stat was that none of the medley winners had a particularly fast freestyle, but were very strong on Fly and Back (3 out of the 4 winners led at the half way point). If you want to be good on the Medley, then improve your backstroke first J
