June 12 - Pentecost

“There are different gifts, but

the same Spirit; there are

different ministries but the

same Lord; there are different

works but the same God who

accomplishes all of them in

every one.” - 1 Corinthians

12:4-6

We need to pay special

attention to the gifts we are

unaware in ourselves. God

called fisherman to be apostles

and great preachers. We never

know what gifts God will call

us to use. The talents we are

called to share may be ones

that we are least aware of.

The Church celebrates Pentecost

(so called because it is fifty days

after Easter Day) as the day on

which the Holy Spirit descended

upon the apostles, gathered in an

upper room with Mary, the mother

of Jesus, “as a mighty, rushing

wind”, fulfilling Jesus’ promise

when he “breathed on them”, as

recorded in John’s Gospel

(Chapter 20).

Let us pray that over the next

week as we reflect on Pentecost,

that the Holy Spirit will give us

the same gifts of grace He shared

with His apostles to undertake the

evangelical mission of the Church

- the Christian inspired message of

salvation.

New Roman Missal Q & A - Questions and Answers on the Mass Changes; On the weekend of November 27, 2011, the English speaking Catholic Church in the USA will begin using a new

translation of the prayers that we use at Mass. The Liturgy of the Eucharist

Christ took the bread and the chalice and gave thanks; he broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying,

“Take, eat, and drink: this is my Body; this is the cup of my Blood. Do this in memory of me.” Accordingly, the

Church has arranged the entire celebration of the Liturgy of the Eucharist in parts corresponding to precisely these

words and actions of Christ:

1. At the Preparation of the Gifts, the bread and the wine with water are brought to the altar, the same

elements that Christ took into his hands.

2. In the Eucharistic Prayer, thanks is given to God for the whole work of salvation, and the offerings

become the Body and Blood of Christ.

3. Through the fraction and through Communion, the faithful, though they are many, receive from the one

bread the Lord’s Body and from the one chalice the Lord’s Blood in the same way the Apostles received

them from Christ’s own hands. (GIRM, 72)

Adult Faith

Caring Ministry - Laura Gartman The Caring Ministry is a network of parishioners who

supplement the priests’ work: Among their services are

meals in time of need, help for caregivers that need a little

assistance, such as running errands, bringing meals, or maybe

just sitting with whoever you are caring for while you run

out. We are also starting meals for new moms. If you or

anyone you know would like meals brought to their home

during that first week home with a newborn we can help.

Please contact Laura Gartman at 908-889-4390 or the Office if

you can help the Caring Ministry or need their help.

The Adult Faith Programs are finished for the summer.

See you in the Fall!

St. Bart’s Academy in Action

Mrs. Schoendorf’s seventh grade students are

creating original stories for their Kindergarten

prayer buddies. The 7th graders interviewed their

prayer buddies and then used the answers to write a

simple story. Once the story was complete, the older

students began creating and illustrating their stories

prior to reading them to their prayer buddies.

In Science, Mrs. Levins had the seventh graders

study photosynthesis and respiration in plants by

completing a science lab. They mixed 4 test tubes

with bromthymol blue solution (BTB) and added

carbonated water to each. Elodea (a water plant)

was added to 2 of the test tubes which caused the

solution to change color to yellow. Then one of each

of the test tubes was stored in the light and in the

dark. The one that was stored in the light had used

photosynthesis and the color turned back to blue.

The results were amazing!!
