Will your family be in Pearsall in 2018? If you know at this stage of the year that your child will not be returning next year due to a change in circumstances, perhaps you're heading overseas or moving for work; please inform the office as this greatly assists us with our planning. Being able to anticipate our enrolments as closely as possible is important so that class structures, staffing and budgets can be determined accurately for next year. We appreciate your cooperation and your assistance with our planning. Student Safety Please take the time to regularly remind your child/ren about safety, especially when going to and from school. Here are the important points to mention:

Do not talk to strangers and never accept a ride from a stranger, or accept lollies or gifts from a stranger.

Immediately report any issue or problem you may have when going to or from school to your mum and dad, or your to your teacher, the Principal, Deputy Principal or office staff.

Always get permission from mum or dad before going to play with a friend after school and always let mum and dad know where you will be and what time you will be home.

We advise that, wherever possible, children should travel to or from school with an adult or with their friends, rather than travelling alone. Early Release All children collected from school before 3.00pm must be signed out at the office. Parents will be handed an ‘Early Release Pass’ to hand to the supervising teacher. Lost Property Reminders Only items that are labeled and legible will be returned. Please label your

items (hats, lunchboxes, drink bottles, etc.).

First and last name is best.

If you have purchased from the second hand sale please re-label/ name your items.

It’s hard to return items that have 2 or 3 different names on them. If you have lost anything please check the lost property bins that are located

at the back of the office. Sleep 10-12 Hours Each Night A firm and consistent bedtime routine will help most children settle down to

sleep.

School aged children need 10-11 hours of sleep per night.

Children that receive a good amount of sleep find it easier to be focused, behave well and learn properly.

Routine is Important Routines help families get organized and get things done.

Being predictable helps your child know what is expected and gives them a sense of calm, they know what to expect.

If your child is finding things difficult use pictures and star charts to help them get use to routines in a positive way.

Diwali Diwali is celebrated by Hindus in India and all around the world in October or November. It is the Hindu New Year and is either a 3-day or 5-day holiday depending on where you come from. As our class has a few students who celebrate Diwali, we thought it would be a wonderful idea to go out into the sunshine and draw Rangolis together. A Rangoli is a colourful design made on the floor near the entrance to a house to welcome guests. At Diwali, Hindus draw bright Rangoli patterns to encourage the goddess Lakshmi to enter their homes.

Personal Goods Brought to School Please be aware that our school discourages personal property being brought to school by students. This includes toys. The Department of Education and Training does not hold insurance for personal property brought to school and will not pay for loss or damage to such property. Partnerships Between Parents and Teachers The partnership between parents and teachers is important in supporting children’s learning and development. Parents can help teachers to teach their children better by:

Starting each day smoothly and peacefully with kind words, smiles and a hug. Communicating every day after school by spending time with children,

hearing about their day, listening to what they are saying and paying attention without interruptions.

Sending children to school with a nutritious breakfast inside them—one that includes protein, fruit and good carbohydrates, and by packing nutritious, healthy and tasty food in their lunchboxes.

Making sure children get plenty of sleep every night so their brains and bodies can grow.

Using non-aggressive conflict resolution strategies so that children learn by example how to deal effectively with their anger and frustration with others.

Placing high value on good manners and respect for others and their property.

Modelling and teaching time management and organisational skills. Use calendars and planners for school and family life.

Showing your love of learning by going with them to the local library, to concerts and art galleries.

Talking with respect about teachers and dealing with issues in private and not in front of children.

Encouraging children to take responsibility for their own learning. And most importantly letting your children know every day how much you

love and value them.

Operation Christmas Child Thankyou to everyone in our parent community and to the students for their contributions to our Samaritans Purse 'Operation Christmas Child' initiative. We are super excited to announce that we filled nearly 50 shoe boxes, which will soon be delivered to children in need across the world. Many of these children will never have received a Christmas present before. This is a wonderful initiative to encourage empathy in our students and the importance of giving to those that have little or nothing. Thankyou again.

Swimming lessons will be commencing week 2 of Term 1, 2018. Forms will be going home next week and payment is required by Week 9, Friday 8th December 2017.
