Mother Teresa Assembly 2506Faithful Navigator’s report

Our thanks to all of our Sir Knights who recruited new members for the MTA. At the Exemplification ceremonies this fall, we brought in 16 new Brother SKs into our Assembly. We all look forward to their participation in MTA activities and to the sharing of their talents. At this time we are only 3 members short from achieving one of our key goals, so as to be able to apply for the new “Star Assembly Award.”

Various important events took place this past November. Our Color Corps participated in various Veteran’s Day activities (p. 9). One gathering of great significance to us was the Memorial Mass and Ceremony for our departed Sir Knights (p. 10). Members of our Color Corps were also involved in the “Silver Rose” ceremony held at St. Joseph (p. 11-12).

Our general meeting in December will be our Christmas Social to be held at “Siciliano’s A Taste of Italy” on December 3 (p. 12-13). Come join us if you can! Please be aware that the Christmas Social takes the place of our routine general meeting on the third Tuesday of the month; thus, we do not have a meeting on December 20!

Have a wonderful Christmas season and very best wishes for a wonderful, prosperous and healthy New Year 2017!

Vivat Jesus and Viva Cristo Rey! God bless!

Robert

Report

Half of the Fraternal Year is almost over and progress has been made in the Assembly’s membership and activities.

Please forward to me any information (hours spent) on Fraternal activities such as Church / Community / Youth / vising the sick or blood donations that you may have done this past year. The Assembly’s Survey of Fraternal Activities will be due in January.

It’s also time to pay your annual membership dues of $35.00. In addition, there is a new voluntary assessment of $5 for the Military Chaplains Fund. Please refer to the letter included in this newsletter and with you billing statement.

Finally: In union there is strength. – Aesop

December Thoughts

“How wonderful it is, how pleasant, for God’s people to live together in harmony.” – psalm 133:1

The end of another year is upon us and it is time to reflect on what we have accomplished and to plan on what we would like to achieve in the coming new year. We need to remember to reflect on our relationships with our families, friends, co-workers, and brother Knights. Am I a member who just pays dues or am I one who knows my brother Knights? You can gain that knowledge by interacting with them at meetings. Make a note to attend at least one more meeting this coming year than in the last. You might be surprised at what you learn.

From your Faithful Comptroller - Have a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

“The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship.” – William Blake

Mother Teresa Assembly 2506 –- Comptroller’s Letter to the Membership

MTA 2506 Newsletter December, 2016 5

Dear Sir Knights,

This message is intended to clarify some issues and to provide new information. The annual dues for all members is $35.00 and includes

the $5.00 assessment for the Chalice Fund. All members are required to pay into the Chalice Fund as long it is being assessed. An

optional assessment of $5.00 has been added to this year’s dues to allow members to make a voluntary contribution to the Military

Chaplains Fund. This money will be sent to the Military Archdiocese each Fraternal Year.

If there are any members who have special circumstances such as financial hardship, illness, etc., please let me or the Faithful Navigator

know so that we can take this into consideration. Please, do not ignore the annual billing statement, since we do not wish to suspend

anyone for non-payment of dues. Any member who wishes to voluntarily discontinue membership in the Fourth Degree needs to make

his request in writing. The request will be forwarded to Supreme on the member’s behalf.

It is very important for us to have current contact information for all members. Make any necessary address changes on you billing return

receipt and please add your email address and telephone numbers. Please read the Assembly’s monthly newsletter. It provides

information on what the Assembly has been doing and what’s planned in the coming months. Also, if you wish to add something to it,

please forward it for consideration. It would be welcomed. Finally, remember to pray for our country and it’s leaders. We are, after all,

“One Nation Under God.”

Vivat Jesus.

In 1960, Columbian Squires in Mexico, Canada and the United states decided to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe by carrying a rose across North American from Canada to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey Mexico.

Subsequently, the original rose was replaced by a bronze and then a Silver Rose. In recent years the program has expanded to six Silver Roses traveling the western, central and eastern corridors of North America with the Knights of Columbus from Canada, the USA and Mexico carrying the roses from destination to destination and finally to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico.

Every stop along the route of the Silver Rose is an occasion for prayer and spiritual renewal centered around the rosary.

Mother Teresa Assembly 2506Historical patriot of the month – Nathanael Greene (1742-1786)

MTA 2506 Newsletter December, 2016 16

Nathanael Greene was born a Quaker during the summer of 1742 and raised a pacifist. The Rhode Island native suffered from asthma and had a pronounced limp. Due to his physical maladies, Greene was initially denied election as an officer in the Kentish Guard militia that he helped form in 1774.

Regardless of this initial setback, Greene taught himself to be a soldier by reading books on military tactics, leadership and fortifications and caught the attention of General George Washington. Greene became the youngest brigadier general in the Continental Army in 1775 and was promptly promoted to major general under Washington.

After successes at the Battles of Trenton and Germantown, Greene served as a quartermaster after Valley Forge and as commander-in-chief of the Southern Army in a campaign that forced British commander Lord Charles Cornwallis out of the Carolinas as a prelude to Yorktown.

It is believed that George Washington had so much confidence in Nathanael Greene’s abilities that he would have chosen him to be commander in chief of the Continental Army had anything happened to him. After twice refusing the post of Secretary of War, Greene passed in 1786 at age 43.

Page 17: The Patriot Mother Teresa Assembly 2506

Mother Teresa Assembly 2506Parting thoughts of the month

For us Catholics and for every Christian, the two most significant days on our annual calendar have to be Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. On the former, our Lord and Savior overcame death and bestowed upon us the promise and incredible gift of eternal life! To achieve this, our heavenly Father brought Christ into our midst.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternallife.”

John 3:16

This month we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus. We look forward to spending quality time with our family members and closefriends. We shop for gifts for those whom we love. Without doubt, in today’s society the season has been greatly commercialized. From numerous sales at retail stores to a plethora of college and professional football games, etc., it is easy to lose focus of what this special time should be all about. Let’s ensure that this does not happen to us.

As some of the yard signs say,

“Christ is the reason for the season.” “Keep Christ in Christmas.”

This Christmas, take time to thank our Father and Creator for the wonderful gift of Jesus! And fill your hearts with joy by remembering our Lord’s own words:

“And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

Matthew 28:20
