“In Omnibus Vincit Amor”
PASTORAL CORNER THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
Today we recall the Lord’s Ascension into heaven and the beginning of the Church’s mission to create a Civilization of Love through the spread of the Gospel of Life. Again, we recall the glorification of Jesus Christ who, as a man, has been called to share in the glory of God. His ascension also reminds us that heaven is our destiny. That is what we have been created for. That is where we will find the perfect fulfil-ment of all our aspirations. But before we reach such a glorious desti-nation, we have to do our share in the fulfilment of God’s plan for ourselves and the rest of humankind. Jesus wants that we become more and more involved in the building of the Kingdom. What made all the difference and assured a complete final success despite all obstacles and “ups and downs” in this mission of building the Kingdom was the unfailing and powerful presence of the Holy Spirit. Repeatedly promised by Jesus and eventually sent by the Father and him on Pentecost day, the Holy Spirit transformed that apprehensive band of not-qualified people into heroes and saints. He did and will continue doing the same with their successors till the end of time. And through it all, the glorified Jesus will not watch the vicissitudes of his Church “from a distance.” Though invisible, he will still be very much fully involved in the life of his Church for he has become and “remains for ever Emmanuel” – God with us!

BEQUEST/WILL TO OUR PARISH Think about it: Making a “Will or Be-quest” to our Holy Spirit Parish of City Beach can be enormously satisfy-ing. It provides a rare opportunity to review your life and to look at your most cherished relationships. The Catholic Church has been present at most of the important milestones in your life: your Baptism, your First Communion, at times of great celebration and at times of great sadness. The work of the many ministries of the Catholic Church is eve-ry day far-reaching, life-giving, and life-saving. By leaving a gift to your church in your Will, you will leave a legacy of faith – a legacy to help ensure that the mission and pastoral outreach that has been important to you will continue both for today’s needs and for those of our children, our grandchildren and beyond. Thank you!

HOLY SPIRIT CITY BEACH MEMBERSHIP FORM Two weeks ago every parishioner should have received a membership form in the post together with a letter from me and our Finance Chair, Carl Perrozzi, ex-plaining the need for everyone to complete and return the forms. With the lock down and no weekend masses for three months I am concerned we may have lost track of some parishioners and are unaware of any new families who have moved into the area in recent months. We do need to update our records so I implore every family to please complete their forms and return them in the self-addressed envelope or hand them into the office during the week. This lockdown has also affected our Parish finances as there have been no first and second collections. Your financial support for both collections is greatly appreciated. Details of our bank accounts are contained in my letter. In the event you did not receive my let-ter and form, copies are available at the back of the Church. Please take them home, read the letter, complete the form and support our Parish to the best of your ability. Thank you for your commitment to our Parish. It is deeply appreci-ated. Please be assured that in my daily Masses I am earnestly praying for you, your families and all parish intentions. God bless you all.

MASS READINGS
The Ascension of The Lord Year A
1st-Reading (Acts 1:1-11) Why are you standing here looking into the sky? Jesus has been taken into heaven. In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and was taken up to heaven. He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he had continued to appear to them and tell them about the kingdom of God. When he had been at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Father had promised. ‘It is’ he had said ‘what you have heard me speak about: John baptised with water but you, not many days from now, will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.’ Now having met together, they asked him, ‘Lord, has the time come? Are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He replied, ‘It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and then you will be my witnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to the ends of the earth.’ As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight. They were still staring into the sky when suddenly two men in white were standing near them and they said, ‘Why are you men from Galilee standing here looking into the sky? Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven, this same Jesus will come back in the same way as you have seen him go there.’ THE WORD OF THE LORD! Responsorial-Psalm (Ps 46:2-3, 6-9.v.6) RESPONSE: God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord 1. All peoples, clap your hands, cry to God with shouts of joy! For the Lord, the Most High, we must fear, great king over all the earth. R/ 2. God goes up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast. Sing praise for God, sing praise, sing praise to our king, sing praise R/ 3. God is king of all the earth. Sing praise with all your skill. God is king over the nations; God reigns on his holy throne. R/ 4. . R/ 2nd-Reading (Eph 1:17-23) He made Jesus to sit at his right hand in heaven.
May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and perception of what is revealed, to bring you to full knowledge of him. May he enlighten the eyes of your mind so that you can see what hope his call holds for you, what rich glories he has promised the saints will inherit and how infinitely great is the power that he has exercised for us believers. This you can tell from the strength of his power at work in Christ, when he used it to raise him from the dead and to make him sit at his right hand, in heaven, far above every Sovereignty, Authority, Power, or Domination, or any other name that can be named not only in this age but also in the age to come. He has put all things under his feet and made him, as the ruler of everything, the head of the Church; which is his body, the fullness of him who fills the whole creation. THE WORD OF THE LORD! Gospel-Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! Go and teach all people my gospel. I am with you always, until the end of the world. Alleluia! Gospel (Matt 28:16-20) All authority in heaven and on earth has been given by me.
The eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.’ THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD.
O Immaculate Mary, Help of Christians, Queen of heaven and earth, and tender Mother of humanity, at this time when a pandemic threatens all your children, we entrust to you our nation, Australia, and all who live in this country. We commit to your intercession all the members of our community, beginning with the weakest ones, from the unborn to the sick, the disabled and the elderly. We commit to you our families, our young and old, and all who are vulnerable, those who are quarantined or anxious. We entrust to your Immaculate Heart those who have lost their livelihood or employment, our pastors and other essential service workers, and our leaders at this time. We implore your intercession especially for the protection of doctors and nurses and those who minister to the contagious sick in this crisis. Reign over us, Mother of God, and teach us how to make the Heart of Jesus reign and triumph in us and around us, as it has reigned and triumphed in you!
24/25 MAY 2020
*****************************************************************Entrustment of Australia to Mary Help of Christians
The official Feast Day of Mary Help of Christians is, this year, the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. We pray the Pray-er of Entrustment of Australia to Mary Help of Christians at the conclusion of each Mass this Sunday 24/25 MAY 2020, uniting ourselves with our Archbishop, Timothy Costelloe and the other Bishops of Australia in commending our Country Australia to the maternal protection of our Blessed Mother Mary. ***********************************************************************
HOLY COMMUNION ON THE TONGUE IN THE PARISH DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Regarding the Archbishop’s strong encouragement that Holy Communion be received in the hand during this period of Covid-19 pandemic, if there is anybody who insists on receiv-ing Holy Communion on the Tongue at Mass in the parish dur-ing this period of Pandemic, the person will come for Commun-ion only after others have received their Communion in the hand. That is, the person will be the last to come for Commun-ion. And the person will go to the Priest, not to the Acolyte. Blessings. ***********************************************************************
CONTACT LOG SHEET IN THE CHURCH In the foyer of the Church and chapel, there are Contact Log Sheets and Sanitizers. Whoever wants to visit the church or the chapel apart from attending Holy Mass, will write his/her name in the contact Log Sheet provided with his/her contact details and time in/time out. Sanitisers are also placed on the table for use. Those who attend Masses do not need to write their names because I have already got their contact details. Blessings, +Fr Emmanuel-tv
