regular basis. The institute has a separate placement and training department
which not only caters to the placement of students but also concentrates on
conducting pre placement training, for students. In fact, training on soft skills,
communication skills, personality development, group discussions, etc are
built into the regular timetable. The curricular and co/extra-curricular activities
are systematically planned and executed to provide quality education.
S7. Pupilpod: Student data base has been automated using pupilpod software,
aiming towards easy access of the same to all the stake holders. Also
Information Kiosks has been housed in strategic locations to enable easy
access of information to students/parents. Parents can also access information
about their wards through internet by a unique Parent Information System
developed for the same. Pupilpod TM
is an Educational Resource Planning
(ERP) product, which works on SQL platform, developed by M/s Thoughtnet
Private Limited.
S8. Faculty qualification: All faculty are post graduates in engineering (ME /
M.Tech) or M Sc in Science & Humanities. More than 20% of the faculty are
Doctorate degree holders.
S9. Academic Performance: This has been one of the major strengths of the
institute. Overall pass percentage achieved in final semester VTU examination
is consistently beyond 90%.

S10. Industry Institute Interaction: Under the auspices of Industry Institution
Interaction Cell (IIIC) a major leap was achieved in the form of signing of
Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with reputed multinational industries
which facilitated training of our students/staff with industry grade equipment,
software and courseware.

Weakness:
W1.Research/Consultancy: Even though mechanism towards motivating the
interested faculty members to pursue research/ higher studies is in place only
few departments are contributing actively to research and consultancy.
W3. Faculty demographic profile and attrition: 40% of the faculty members
are less than 35 years of age implying lower work and research experience.
Only 20% are PhD holders. Attrition rate is approximately 15% in the last
academic year due to various reasons like starting of new engineering colleges
in the vicinity etc.
W4. Twinning Programmes: Since the institute is an affiliated college, prospects
of offering twinning programmes are very few.
W5. Placement & Training: Even though on-campus placement record is
consistent, there is enormous scope for achieving higher placement rates
through appropriate training/finishing schools. Also there is no concerted
effort towards training weaker students.

Opportunities:
O1. Branding and positioning: With an increase in the employability of
graduates of the college and also with higher research/consultancy activity will
enable the institute to carve a niche for itself in the domain of engineering
education
O2. Becoming autonomous institute /deemed university: Starting of new PG
programs and providing encouragement to faculty to pursue
research/consultancy will result in increase in number of research projects,
publications in reputed national/international journals and also registering of
patents. This definitely will make the institute gain autonomy and also deemed
university status.
O3. Industry Institute interaction, training to students: Interaction with
industry is a major step towards increasing the employability of graduates.
This activity will not only help in higher placements but will also assist the
college in train the trainer activity. Also industry partners may be offered,
providing training to their employees.
O4. Research, Consultancy and faculty training: This is an outcome of O3.
Higher exposure to industry will definitely boost research activity. This will
provide the faculty with an opportunity to interact with industry and thereby
gain valuable inputs with respect to their area of interest.
O5. Student Internship /Support to weaker students: This is most essential to
encompass all the students of the institution under increased employability
scheme. Support to weaker students is required in providing additional
subjective training and also in non subjective training like English classes
etc.
O6. External Sponsorship of faculty for Post Graduation & PhD
programmes: This is an incentive to faculty who intend to pursue research,
which results in multifold benefit to the college. Not only does the institute
have higher qualified faculty, but through them, the quality of students passing
-

out of the college will be much better. This will also result in increase in the
employability of the graduates of this college.
O7. Collaboration with foreign universities: Successful implementation of O1-
O6 will result in possible collaboration with foreign universities in terms of
offering twinning programmes, deputation of faculty on sabbatical leave for
Post doctoral work and also faculty exchange programmes.
Threats:
T1. Retention of qualified & experienced faculty members: This is a major
challenge. With increase in demand for professional education and increase in
the number of engineering institutions, retaining qualified and experienced
faculty has become very difficult. Hence measures towards increasing affinity
and allegiance of faculty towards the institute needs to be implemented.
T2. Competition from autonomous colleges: With autonomy these institutions
will be able to offer new programmes with flexible curriculum. Therefore
autonomous institutions will be able to attract better students, qualitatively
as well as quantitatively.
T3. Fast changing technology: Is another challenge. With technology changing
every day, the institution needs to progressively upgrade its laboratory
infrastructure, which invites large investment. Therefore measures to increase
Institutional revenue from sources other than tuition fees needs to be thought
about. The solution for this challenge therefore lies in increased research,
consultancy and offering training to industry professionals.
T4. Starting of other engineering college in the vicinity: This is a perennial
challenge, which will not only result in higher faculty attrition rates but also
may effect student admissions.
T5. Entry of Foreign Universities in India: With GATT agreement signed, this
is a certain possibility. Obviously, foreign universities will offer tough
competition to Indian institutions. Therefore one needs to gear up to face this
challenge
