Oregon AMS Reminders & Updates

* The Oregon Chapter of the AMS is proud to be the single largest non-college chapter in the country - 180 members strong! We have added another 30+ members since the Winter Weather Meeting here at OMSI, back in October.

* The Annual AMS Conference is taking place in Seattle next week. The topic this year is “Communicating The Weather!” Details are posted on our web site as well the National AMS site.

* NEXT OREGON AMS MEETING – Saturday, February 12th @ 7pm. Dinner meeting at the O.S.F in Clackamas! AMS Secretary Kyle Dittmer and AMS member Chris Beltrone will present the topic “Did The Iceland Volcano Impact Our 2010 Weather?” RSVP’s will be requested for this dinner meeting. At approximately 12:50pm on April 5th 1972, an F3 tornado tore through Vancouver, Washington killing 6

people and injuring 300 in an elementary school, grocery store and bowling alley. It was the deadliest tornado in the United States that year and stands to this day as the deadliest recorded tornado to strike west of the Rocky

Mountains in modern times (1950-Present).
