In Vail, we have two One-to-One
initiatives•At Empire High School, we provide
the laptop (A “traditional” one-to-one, since 2005)
•At Cienega High School, the students bring their own laptops (“BYOL”, since 2009)
What do both require?
•An enterprise-class wireless network
•Able to do multiple SSID’s on multiple VLAN’s
•Solid Proxy Content Filter (so the kids are always protected, but can connect anywhere)
•On-site technical support
•On-site clerical support (lots of bookkeeping)
What would be nice?•Enterprise wireless integrated with
Directory Services (RADIUS). This lets your teachers and students be on different Wireless LANs
•Content Filter integrated with Directory Services (you are filtered based upon who you are, not where you are)
“We provide the laptop”
•Imaging Capabilities (100’s of laptops, with multiple images)
•10% Spares
•In-House Repair (“Self Servicing”)
•Storage and Bookkeeping

•Complete control of the student machine
