Oklahoma County 4-H Shooting Sports

I had the privilege to represent Oklahoma County and the state of Oklahoma at the 4-H National Shooting Sports Championships. The event was held in Grand Island, Nebraska, June 25-30. I competed in skeet, trap, and sporting clays over the 5 day event. It was a great opportunity to meet shooters from all over the country and build new relationships. I was very pleased to be on a team that finished second in the nation in skeet and fourth in trap.

I would like to thank the Oklahoma City Gun Club as well as the individuals for their generous dona-tions that allowed me to participate in this event. I know I would not be at the place I am today if it wasn’t for the encouragement and mentorship of many fellow members of the gun club. I know that without the great people at our club I would not have had this opportunity nor the skill I have now.

Thank you Blake Randall

Action Pistol Division 71 shooters turned out for the July USPSA match, with 7 stages and about 170+ rounds required.

The scores are as follows:

We are starting to use the Practiscore website for pre-registration for our matches. It is not required, but is encouraged. There is no charge when you pre-register -- you pay at check-in on match day. We have decided not to offer online self-squadding for the USPSA matches at this point. While there are some advantages, there is a significant down-side as well for our matches. Links to pre-registration will be included in match announcements so if you are not receiving them, go to the Action Pistol Division on our website and select “Sign Me Up”. IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Tracer rounds or any type of incendiary ammunition is strictly prohibited. Shooting from outside the bay is prohibited even if the intended impact is safely within the confines of a bay.

ALL shooting activity must occur within the confines of a bay. PLEASE pick-up after yourselves and don’t leave trash or targets. There are trash cans on most bays as well as

a large dumpster. The Muzzleloader/Black Powder Range is now OPEN Our next monthly USPSA/IPSC match will be August 5th. Come on out and play. ALWAYS CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR LAST MINUTE UPDATES & SCORES.

It was super hot and we had several drop out and no one wanted to shoot the 100 yard target We are back on our Muzzleloader Range now, even though there is a lot more work that is needed

to be done. We do have a Club rifle and gear so if anyone is interested in shooting Muzzleloaders please let me

know and we can get you hooked up. Ron Doggett [email protected]

Need a Workday? Want updates on Club News?? Urgent calls for club help???

We need YOUR help!

We’ve recently implemented a more effective email distribution service to get club information out to our membership; while the feedback we’ve received is very positive, it is evident that we are still missing many of our members. Make sure your current/preferred email address is in our database so that we can do our best to disseminate club information effectively. Currently, about 30% of our membership have no email address on file. Of those that do have one, it appears that a significant percentage of addresses are not being checked – perhaps the email ad-dress on file is no longer being used. If you are not receiving email from the okcgunclub.org address, it is possible that your email appli-cation is routing it to a SPAM or Junk folder. If that is the case, you can mark mail from that ad-dress so that it will be properly delivered as valid email, going forward.

NRA Action Pistol We had a good turn out on July the 8th, the weather was not to hot and it was a good day to shoot a couple hundred rounds of ammo. We set up all four events, the mover and plates in the morning and barricade and practical in the af-ternoon. Still on the Bullseye range for now, but will be moving soon. There were two new lady shooters this month; Laura Parker and Jodi Burr. These ladies are not new to shooting and shot very well for their first time at NRA Action Pistol.

Winners were:

July 2017 5-Stand Match

The third 5-Stand match was held on July 16th at the Oklahoma City Gun Club. The shoot on May 21

was the second shoot of the year with the inaugural match on March 19th.

Our next match will be August 20th at 1:00 PM. The cost is 50 targets for $15. There are two 25 tar-

get formats. The first 25 bird format consists of a single bird that can be shot twice if missed on the first attempt. Then there are 2 report pairs. This process is repeated on each station of the 5 stands… hence the name 5-Stand. The second 25 bird format starts with the single and then fol-lowed by 2 true pairs. The targets are always fun.
