THE COG – RCM Meeting 1738 Bulletin 13 February 2019
Presidents Blog for 13/2/2019
This week saw Rotary Morialta shine, inducting Mayor Jill Whittaker as an honorary member of the club. Jill Whittaker
who has accepted the role as an honorary member of our club in recognition for her long-standing community work
and pivotal role in council.
We also heard from our National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) student Archer Newton and our Indigenous Health
Scholar Emily Sparrow. In addition, we had Assistant Governor, David Jones and a host of guests who all came along
to see what Rotary does.
Emily Sparrow is a registered nurse and is in the final year of a graduate diploma in midwifery. As a mother of two
young children, the assistance that our club has provided has helped her find time and child care for her kids while she
gains the qualification she is seeking.
Archer Newton a Rostrevor College student, was sent to NYSF to explore his interest in a science career. He heard
from a variety of speakers including David Caldicott, on pill testing at music festivals, along with Tanya Munro a
previous graduate of the NYSF program. Tanya is a NYSF success story as she went on , in a male dominated
environment to be an award-winning physicist who has worked extensively in the UK and is well regarded for her work
in Platonics.
Overall, Archer had 9 days of development, building links and connecting on science issues and building links to
important people in science now and in the future. An extremely positive young man and we will keep an eye on
Archer to see the positive results he will deliver for himself and our community.
Also, present were Cambelltown Rotarian Ric Dance, who is transferring to our club as an experienced Rotarian. Linda
Driver who was a guest of David Riggall and Archer’s parents also attended.
Guest Speaker for next week is Lauren Edwards Physio - Keeping Fit.
This week was ‘Back to the Future’ movie night on last Saturday at Thorndon Park…hope you all enjoyed it
