Mild winter, early beginning of springtime - and after the Bauma show 2016 empirically a warm summer rain. After mixed results in 2015, the prediction for the construction industry in 2016 are good all-in-all, statisticians even talk of a possible net growth of up to 3.6%. Good prospects indeed and an important signal for each construction contractor who, like every year must prepare everything in time for the season. Also concerning construction machinery and new attachments, especially in a "Bauma-year". Because for producers of construction machinery and attachments manufacturers mid-April means show-time every third year! KINSHOFER presents its extensive program at its usual place FM.613 / 1 in the outdoor area of the Bauma show in Munich/Germany. The sheer size of the booth visualizes the continual growth and success of the KINSHOFER Group - and is a consequence of their sensational fair result of the last Bauma presence. To help our visitor locating an attachment

of his interest in the larger area, there is a special floorplan. But even without, he’ll find it in the remarkable large number of exhibited attachments because it is divided into product groups. Among them even new ones, first of all a complete quick coupler and bucket range that now integrates types compatible to the German "System Lehnhoff". Together with the quick-change systems of the Nordic "S-Standard", the KINSHOFER pin-to-pin system and CMX safety quick couplers KINSHOFER has thus positioned itself in both, the domestic and the world market as a major supplier of various quick-change solutions. In addition to equipment for cranes and excavators there are also attachments now for skid steer loaders, telescopic handlers and forklifts available. Plus heavy scrap shears, demolition equipment and special equipment for railway maintenance. This wide range of attachments is the positive result our own efforts in product development and of the acquisition of well-known companies in the last years, who like KINSHOFER are committed

The KINSHOFER Group - this is the KINSHOFER GmbH with headquarters in Germany, Demarec B.V. with its base in Holland, the Swedish RF System AB and the anglo-australian company Auger !Torque. While KINSHOFER is offering a wide range of crane and excavator attachments for almost every task, Demarec is a specialist for demolition and recycling tools for excavators. RF System has been known for its dedicated attachments for cable and hose works, earth moving and especially attachments for railway construction and maintenance. Together, the four companies form the KINSHOFER Group and are thus able to provide their customers a comprehensive product range of mechanical and hydraulic attachments for cranes and excavators - worldwide.

to the premium quality of their innovative tools. The KINSHOFER subsidiary Auger Torque will be represented with an own booth in Hall B3.438, where construction contractors and landscapers can discover more new exciting attachments, including an extensive range of first-class augers, earth drills and trenchers. If you as a decider of a construction company or as a seller do not want to miss the trend, just come to KINSHOFER: We can grant that you start off in the race well placed and perfectly equipped with high quality and reliable attachments. We make efficiency and economy possible. And the success of our customers tells us we are right. Less failure and maintenance time over decades have led to a sentence, we hear again and again from them since years: "I cannot afford less quality!"In this third edition of our international newsletter for users and construction traders, clients describe their success with some new attachments from our product range in several job reports. This product range has become so large, that it can satisfy merely every requirement. Further, we have also listened carefully to the comments on proven attachments and have invested consequently in their amelioration. As last year, the reports derive from German sites and again from most different locations on this planet, because KINSHOFER quality continues to convince everywhere.

AS the KINHOFER GmbH is further expanding its product range, a new office has been opened in Baden-Baden, Germany, especially to promote the new coupler and bucket series. The new KINSHOFER specialist for quick couplers and buckets, Stefan Sparwel, is offering his knowledge and service from there to customers worldwide.

Baden-Baden has not been a random choice. It is located in the middle of Europe, bordering France and Switzerland and surrounded by different large airports. The new office is not only a base for sales and service, but Stefan Sparwel is also offering trainings there about the KINSHOFER coupler and bucket program.

For over 40 years, KINSHOFER has been a leading manufacturer of attachments for truck mounted cranes and excavators, consistently developing its product range in both, the crane and excavator markets to become a competent partner for OEM’s and OED’s.

The new quick coupler and bucket program was just a logical consequence for KINSHOFER to become a one-stop shop for everything that can be mounted to an excavator arm.

Think big - that was what KINSHOFER had in mind when planning its appearance for the world‘s largest fair "Bauma", which is taking place in Munich this year again. As already in 2013, the KINSHOFER Group will share the almost 2,000 m² size booth with the sister companies Darda and Brokk.

Although the new member of the KINSHOFER family Auger Torque has its own booth in hall B3.438, it will also be represented at the main KINSHOFER booth at the open-air ground FM.613 with its product range.

The KINSHOFER booth with also feature a demonstration area with two excavators, equipped with NOX Tiltrotators and attachments for different applications - from earth drill and screw pile installations up to demolition and recycling tasks. And the interested visitors cannot only watch the demonstration show, that will be performed every day (see schedule on the right side), but will also be able to test the tools themselves from an operator seat installed outside of the excavator.

BAUMA CONEXPO AFRICA 2015, which took place from September 15 to 18 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre Nasrec, has now well and truly established itself as the most important event for the earthmoving sector in Africa.

Auger Torque Africa attended the show for the 2nd time and was pleasantly surprised that the show had grown in all aspects, bringing in a steady flow of high quality visitors over the course of the 4 day event.

All in all, over 14,000 visitors from 75 countries attended the second edition of the International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Mining Machines and Construction Vehicles ensuring that the international staff on the Auger Torque Africa stand were kept super busy the whole time.

A special mention has to go to the quality of the visitors and the enthusiasm with which Auger Torque‘s class leading earthmoving attachments are sought after not only by end users but also machine manufacturers & dealers wanting to expand their product line up with top quality augers, earth drills, trencher and more.

SHOW REPORT

# 01 Company NewsAuger Torque and Kinshofer at Bauma Conexpo Africa 2015

The show was a great success for Auger Torque Africa and the new venue was a huge improvement from 2013. This year was bigger and better in every way and being a regular attendee at all bauma events, including China and Germany, it‘s certainly clear that the African version has a much more relaxed feel and laid back approach. Of course you wouldn‘t expect anything else!

"Having attended bauma China multiple times I jumped at the opportunity to attend bauma Africa this year and it was great to see how it’s done on the other side of the globe. What a great experience with a larger turn out of both exhibitors and customers than the previous bauma Africa. Auger Torque Africa excelled themselves showing why they have cemented themselves as the largest attachment seller in Africa", explained Nathan Parziani (Auger Torque Asia Pacific SM)

Of course everything is a little bit different on this continent and due to the remote location, establishing the Auger Torque brand in South Africa has always been about offering a very personal service, world-class reliability and top notch after sales support. Many companies find it extremely difficult to break into this market, which relies heavily on an unblemished track record to build up loyalty with the customer. It is a testament to the quality of Auger Torque products that the company has seen such massive growth, up 175% on last year from January 2015 with the strong upward trend continuing.

"During the show Auger Torque not only cemented long standing friendships with most of the largest OEM suppliers in the country but also formed new relationships with additional household name manufacturers. In a land, which is notoriously tough on machinery, and where only the best will survive, the word is out on the durability of Auger Torque attachments and they can now truly and confidently be called ‘Built for Africa’", said Daniel Haynes (Auger Torque Africa GM)

Auger Torque is already looking forward to the next edition of bauma Africa which will take place in Johannesburg in 2018 but before then make sure you visit us in Munich in April for the original Bauma tradeshow in Germany.

Demarec has been selected as winner of the demolition equipment sector by the nomination committee of the Dutch National Business Success Award Institute. The award now officially ranks Demarec as one of the most successful companies in the Netherlands.

In its summary the nomination committee indicates, that over the years Demarec has developed into a leading demolition equipment company with very strong positioning.

“As a result of its extensive knowledge and experience in demolition equipment, Demarec has built up an excellent reputation. Demarec is generally viewed as one of the leading companies in this sector. Demarec is highly successful at combining this enormous expertise with a customer- and service-oriented approach. Innovative capacity combined with market knowledge key to succes

11

Innovative capacityMarcel Vening, managing director of Demarec, is obviously very proud of the award. “On the one hand it confirms the power of our innovative capacity. We translate this into a sustainable product range with a long life span, striking capacity and extremely favourable operating costs. On the other hand it recognizes our market approach. Our departure point involves repeatedly responding and listening to the requirements of our customers. Complemented with the perfect combination of technology and market knowledge, this forms the foundation on which our product development rests. Keywords are: an excellent price / quality ratio, exceptional achievements, favourable operating costs, low maintenance costs, an effective design and excellent services.”

The argument by Vening is in line with the opinion of the nomination committee that writes: “Demarec presents itself with a wide range of equipment such as demolition and sorting grapples, Multi-Quick Processors, rigid / rotating concrete crushers and scrap shears as an absolute specialist. Innovation is the keyword. Demarec is continually involved in product improvement to ensure an optimal match with customer requirements. Customers know Demarec as a reliable partner that contributes ideas and advice.”

Positive developmentsThe fact that the working practices of Demarec have paid dividends over the past 15 years has been evidenced by all the positive developments. For example, Demarec has recently started operating from new company premises at Cuijk in Brabant. Everything here is located under one roof: the sales & service departments, maintenance service, design department, work and repair shop as well as the extensive parts warehouse. Growth occurred in the product programme, customer database, international dealer network (50 dealers) and the new global markets!

# 01 Company NewsREPORT DEMAREC and OilQuick - A Powerful Liaison

DEMAREC and Oilquick have formed a powerful liaison to meet the customers‘ demands of purchasing a complete ready-to-use system from one single supplier. Clients are now able to get their DEMAREC attachments not only equipped with adapters fitting the popular hydraulic quick change system by OilQuick, but can also purchase the respective OQ quick coupler itself. And the customers are more than happy to take advantage of it.

Scrap recycler Blokdijk in Hoorn, The Netherlands, decided to equip his machines with the completely hydraulic quick change system from OilQuick, delivered by DEMAREC.

“The speed with which we can exchange our hydraulic attachments without even leaving the carrier machine had been the crucial point for us“, says Blokdijk. “We are using different attachments, sorting grabs, orange peel grabs and also a shortlys purchased MQP shear with steel jaws - also from DEMAREC. Where I had to use several excavators in the past, I can now do everything with only one carrier machine. That‘s not only efficient, but also cost-effective,” he adds and climbs back into his excavator.

REPORTKINSHOFER USA to Distribute Moros Equipment in North America

Moros Industrias Hidráulicas s.a., the Spanish manufacturer of shears and balers for the scrap recycling market, has entered into a North American distribution agreement with Kinshofer USA, based in Sanborn, New York. The announcement was made at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) Annual Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in April 2015.

Kinshofer, the maker of mobile shears, processors and other attachments for the scrap and demolition industries, now will be the distributor for Moros company products in the United States of America and Canada. Since the 1980s, Moros has sold several machines into North America, including the H-P-1400 model with angular side adjustable pre-compression box and the GC-S-800, a high-density vertical compression and cutting system able to process 60 metric tons per hour.

Moros has been in business for 60 years offering a wide range of stationary and mobile shears and balers. The company’s success has been customer driven either by matching the proper standard unit to an application or by custom building products to meet the needs of its customers around the world.

Kinshofer, similar to Moros, is focused on its customers. “Both companies are continually investing in R&D to assure they remain on the cutting edge of equipment technology,“ they state in a joint news release. They say that they are “committed to offering [our] customers the latest technical advantages so their products will be reliable, efficient, safe and productive. Keeping operating costs down and ROI up are the primary goals of both firms.“

The North American distribution agreement marks the next step in an ongoing relationship between the two companies. “Kinshofer and Moros already collaborate in Brazil, Spain and other countries, and working together in the U.S.A. and Canada will only strengthen our relationship,” says Francois Martin, general manager of Kinshofer North America.

Moros will add another dimension to the Kinshofer line in North America and will be a natural fit for the markets both companies serve.

“Two great brands offering high-quality products with excellent sales, service and support will be a perfect combination,” says Diego Esteban López, Commercial Director of Moros.

Auger Torque Australia has some exciting news with the appointment of new managing director James Baird. James will be operating out of the Brisbane based headquarters of Auger Torque Australia and will help to continue the phenomenal growth the company has enjoyed since launching down under over 10 years ago.

James has been in the earthmoving industry for most of his working life, will bring a massive amount of knowledge and experience to the table and will be migrating with his whole family from the USA to take the lead of Auger Torque‘s Australian operations.

Having formerly worked in his family’s business, JRB Company, Paladin Brands and finally for Auger Torque‘s parent company, the Kinshofer GmbH means that James is the perfect candidate to give the company the leadership and direction it needs to further cement the company‘s position as the leading attachments manufacturer specialising in Earth Drills, Augers & Trenchers.

“Making my decision to migrate to Australia with my family was made substantially easier knowing I was joining an experienced group that has enjoyed continued success based on a laser focus on customer service and market leading products.“

“I believe Auger Torque Australia is poised for significant growth, and I am lucky to join a talented and experienced team,” says Baird.

All the staff at Auger Torque Australia are excited to have James on board and look forward to work under a fresh new direction that will see the company prosper and continue to be your first choice when it comes to earthmoving attachments in Australasia.

The Dutch manufacturer DEMAREC is one of the leading suppliers of hydraulic equipment for the demolition and recycling industry. The company was founded 15 years ago and can count on 30 years of experience thanks to the employees. The company‘s strength is based on its innovative knowhow. It can be seen in the steady product offer, featuring a long service life, excellent performance and extremely economical operating costs.

These differences are the basis of DEMAREC‘s steady growth regarding the product program, the large clientele in The Netherlands, the comprehensive international dealer network as well as the new worldwide markets. Due to these positive developments, DEMAREC is strongly expansive in all respects!

Smart ChoiceWhen you are seeing the logo DEMAREC Smart Choice, you know that you are having an extraordinarily strong product in front of you. It symbolizes the strong brand of a manufacturer who is adding up to the success of the prior years and provides promising chances for the future. Creativity, innovation, durability and pioneering technologies are always in the center of DEMAREC‘s attention. Important aspects of DEMAREC Smart Choice are:• Optimal weight-performance-ratio, resulting in a low fuel consumption• Low fuel consumption due to the DemaPower system• More power with extremely fast cycle times• Constant search fo innovation while always keeping the market in mind (trendsetter)• Durability and long service life• Client satisfaction The Customers‘ demands The reaction to our clients‘ demands as well as the perfect combination of technical and market skills are forming the basis for DEMAREC‘s

product development. Features are: an excellent price-preformance-ratio, special services, attractive operating and low maintenance costs. One distinctive example is the patented DemaPower system: a special cylinder technique, developed in the proper engineering department. This system is up to 20% more efficient due to the use of four pressure chambers. The double-acting speed valve provides extremely fast cycle times. These features guarantee the lower fuel consumption compared to common cylinder concepts. Not only the clients are benefitting from the economical advantages of this unique technology, but also the environment. The DemaPower system is installed in DEMAREC‘s Multi-Quick Processors (MQP with exchangeable jaws) and the Dedicated Demolition Line (DDL). Thanks to the patented DemaLink system developed by DEMAREC for the MQPs, the different jaws can be changed hydraulically - fast and easy. Within only some minutes, the MQP‘s function changes from a pulverizer, for example, to a scrap or demolition shear. There is no unnecessary downtime of the carrier machine as the respective jaws can be mounted for each task. Due to the DemaLink systems, the jaws can be changed securely on site by only one person.

DEMAREC is the only manufacturer in the industry that has developed a new overload valve with automatic protection against too high pressures. Those can occur, when for example the oil reflow is blocked by a closed ball valve or a damaged quick coupling. This is a new patented system by DEMAREC.

Exchangeable wear parts DEMAREC is using exchangeable wear parts in the attachments in all possible cases. Therefore, the jaws barely have to be welded and an eventual machine fatigue is prevented. One big advantage is, that the wear parts can be exchanged on site by the operator - the task only has to be suspended for a short time and there are no transport costs. There is no more efficient solution possible! DEMAREC attachments are thus providing very low operating costs.

At the end of the day, the decision for DEMAREC products is a decision for quality and innovation. And... the quality does not end with the delivery of the respective attachment. DEMAREC guaranteed its clients an optimal utilization of the tool, no matter where and no matter under which conditions.

INVESTING IN DEMAREC PRODUCTS MEANS INVESTING IN DURABILITY

REPORT Utilities Giant Calls on New Supplier for Auger Drives

Optimum performance, efficiency, reliability and the best possible price. These were the requirements of one of Britain‘s leading utilities companies, as they sought a new supplier of auger drive units for their large fleet of Truck Cranes. Auger Torque Europe, in a joint venture with parent company Kinshofer UK, managed to secure the highly sought after tender worth several hundred thousand pounds with a supply period spanning over the course of a number of years. At the forefront of the deal and one of the main reasons Auger Torque Europe & Kinshofer UK eventually got the nod for this deal is of course the vast experience both companies have in their particular area of specialisation. Kinshofer GmbH, founded in Germany in 1971, brought their knowledge of the crane industry to the table, which perfectly complimented Auger Torque‘s expertise in delivering world-class earth drilling equipment at the right price. After initial consultations with Auger Torque‘s specialist team the ideal drive unit, an Earth Drill 7000TC, was matched to the utility company‘s fleet of newly acquired truck cranes. Auger Torque‘s drive units are available with a huge variety of hydraulic motors and gear ratios to ensure that the unique flow and pressure characteristics of the host machine can be met accurately. This ensures the right balance between performance and reliability is met and will ensure the product will have a long and hassle free service life. Ground conditions in this case could not be predicted as the company‘s truck cranes operate anywhere in the UK in any kind of

season & weather, however after vigorous testing the Earth Drill 7000TC, delivering close to 7000Nm of torque turned out to be more than satisfactory and outperformed the variable speed units it was to replace by a substantial margin. The customer was amazed by how well Auger Torques auger drive was getting the job done, ultimately allowing holes to be drilled up to 1m wide and 5m deep at a much faster rate than they had previously experienced. Another advantage Auger Torque‘s solution had over the previous suppliers offering was the Rope Wind Hitch designed and assembled in house at it‘s UK factory. This optional extra allows for true one-man operation during the various installations the company has to perform on a daily basis. The complete package provides fantastic ease of use for the operator and means installations are now completed in a much shorter time frame than previously thought possible. Auger Torque Europe is excited to have been part of such an elegant solution for a complex problem and to be able to provide their new customer with a product, which will perform for them time and time again for many years to come.

C60H Re-Handling Clamshell Bucket for Materials Giant CEMEX UK

# 02 Reports

Materials giant CEMEX UK, one of the country’s leading supplier of cement, ready mix concrete, mortars, and aggregates has continued expanding its modern fleet of plant with the purchase of a second new KINSHOFER C60H-150 re-handling clamshell. The clamshell was delivered and installed by KINSHOFER’s independent dealer for London and the South East, Mutley Plant Service Ltd.

The Heavy Duty clamshell, which has a 2.25 cu.m capacity, was specified with additional bolt-on horizontal and vertical wear blades to help reduce wear caused by material abrasion and a heavy duty 360 degree continuous rotation system. The clamshell was then fitted to the ‘swan neck’ dipper of a VOLVO EC360CL for the companies sand and gravel operations at its Attenborough Quarry, Beeston, near Nottingham.

The grab is used for unloading sand and gravel from barges and for discharging stockpiled material into a main feed hopper at the plant, and will handle approx. 1,200 tonnes of material per day.

JOB REPORT

Large volume for high performance - the C60HD re-handling clamshell bucket

C60H

Product Info C60H:

Durable re-handling clamshell bucket, especially for loading bulk materials for excavators from 40t / 88,000 lbs to 60t / 132,000 lbs operating weight.

+ Maximum volume due to widely spacedpivotswithaflatclosing curve. Protection of the ground surface is guaranteed, e.g. discharge from boat and train carriages etc.

+ Precise positioning with an integrated rotator

+ Long life is ensured due to the use of 500 HB steel in the manufacture of cutting edges. Shell back walls (standard version: 8 mm / 0.31 in, HB 400) also resist highly abrasive materials. Bearing points with specially coated bushings and hardened pins

+ With integrated rotation: Swivel and bevel sealed. Rotary feedthrough and motor accessible directly

+ Integrated non-return valve guarantees security of the load

+ Excellent digging characteristics are the result of high closing forces (74 kN / 16,280 lbf at an operating pressure of 35 MPa / 5,040 psi)

Vanessa Smithson (Quarry Manager) commented that they had always found the KINSHOFER products to be very reliable having the experience of already running C60H clamshells. Gary Pell (Plant Manager) then went on to say “We cannot afford any unscheduled downtime, if the grab is unable to function, then the whole extraction process has to stop, so product reliability as well as the back-up and support are important details when we choose a manufacturer and supplier of our equipment.” Mutley’s engineering capabilities also re-assured CEMEX of their long term ability to maintain and overhaul the clamshell on their behalf.

Among the key features of the C60H clamshell is the wide pitch PCD ‘slew ring’ type rotation device for increased strength and stability, the use of high strength impact resistant materials which contribute to a low overall weight of the grab and the ‘flat bottom’ closing curve which prevents damage to railway wagons, boats and lorries. Bolt-on reversible horizontal and vertical wear blades protect surfaces vulnerable to abrasion, but also ensure rapid down time when being turned or replaced. The grabs ‘shells’ are also keyed to ensure a sealed closure of the grab, preventing material from being dropped by the clamshell whilst in transit.

JOB REPORTAbbey Pynford Screw Pile Installation

Three problems. One Solution - Auger Torque.

Specialists in piling, underpinning and foundations, Abbey Pynford were tasked with an installation which would require a high torque output in a compact design. Various manufacturers were approached to supply the equipment, but nothing quite had the power required.

The solution was found when they contacted Neil Beard of Auger Torque Europe. From their large range of earth drilling and trenching attachments, and through their extensive experience of supplying the piling industry, Auger Torque recommended the Earth Drill 42000MAX. With 42,000 Newton Metres of torque it would easily produce enough power to drive the screw-piles to the required depth in a quick and efficient manner. The Earth Drill 42,000MAX is specifically designed for this kind of application and operates at a higher RPM than similar models in the range. Like all Auger Torque Earth Drills it uses a high quality & powerful hydraulic motor and is coupled to a bullet proof planetary gearbox of the company’s own unique design. The patented NDS (Non Dislodgement Shaft) technology, which is standard throughout the whole Auger Torque Earth Drill range, guarantees that the shaft will never fall out - a must-have-feature in today‘s safety conscious age.

To manage and record the amount of torque being applied during installation, Abbey Pynford opted for a torque-monitoring device capable of monitoring forces up to 60,000 Nm. The unit is fitted between the Earth Drill and parent machine and the torque is monitored via a constant wireless feed sending real time data back to a PDA or laptop.

Another challenge with this particular installation was having to keep the screw piles perfectly aligned while screwing them into the ground. The Auger Torque Alignment Monitor would solve this issue. A sensor, which is attached to the Earth Drill and the alignment monitor, which is fitted inside the cab of the Sany 21T excavator, ensured each screw pile stayed vertical and true without the need for an additional pair of eyes to guide the operator.

As an end result Abbey Pynford were entirely happy with the package supplied by Auger Torque, one could even say that their expectations were exceed. With the power, accuracy and compact size of the equipment, they were able to complete the project quickly and efficiently and without any problems or costly delays.

„For its compact size we couldn’t believe how much power the Auger Torque Earth Drill has and it was great to see that we never experienced pile refusal as we used to with other units we have trialled in the past“, David Kellet of Abbey Pynford concluded.

RC30 Rail Cutter for SME in France

In February 2015, the company SME at Culoz (01350) had purchased a RC30 mobile rail cutter – and eight months later we are back to meet with Daniel Pilloud, workshop manager, Christophe Pachuey, jobsite manager and Michael Fache, operator.

Christophe indicated, that they had already processed 3500 tons of rails – also including high speed rails that are extremely hard to cut – from February to October and only had to exchange the cutters once. Michael is very happy with this new tool : ”360° endless rotation allows to work with the mobile jaw facing the cabin. We see better what we are doing.“According to Daniel, the knive set was returned after 74 working hours and the jaw was rewelded after 122 working hours. ”It is not a patch on the precedent rail cutter.“ He very much appreciated, that Denis Bertrand from CIMAX – our local dealer – had accepted to do a tool demonstration before buying to ensure design and features were good!

# 04 Demolition & Recycling

There are numerous legendary Australians including Sir Douglas Mawson, RM Williams, Bon Scott, Jimmy Barnes, Mel Gibson and Donald Bradman who are all proud to call Adelaide home. Fernando D’Appollonio respectfully joins the list earning his place amongst the legends where he alongside his business partner Vlado Turic front one of South Australia’s largest asbestos removal and demolition companies D & V Services.

We met at the Salisbury office, which exudes Fernando’s larger then life character. Decked out with earthmoving models there is an impressive collection of die cast classic American cars, a life sized Michael Jordan and an incredible Von Dutch custom Harley Davidson Chopper taking pride of place at the end of the board room. The impressive bike has never been ridden and will remain this way to ensure the dazzling chrome and custom paintwork remains pristine.

REPORT KINSHOFER Australia Delivers a Brand New MQP to South Australia`s D & V Services

The story begins in 1994 following a few years working for another contractor; Fernando came to the realisation that his crazy idea of being his own boss needed to be his reality. Fernando along with business partner Vlado put their wizardry heads together founding a modest asbestos business. Initially the majority of the work was small projects requiring just the two of them and occasionally they would appoint a few mates on bigger jobs forming a team of up to four or five.

Over time they developed strong contacts within the industry and the business grew organically. As the team expanded they started engaging in larger projects and eventually expanded their expertise into the demolition arena. This move lead to buying their first machines and from the outset they always aimed to buy the best. Purchasing brand new safeguarded reliable equipment with warranty however they also bought second hand occasionally depending on what they could afford at the time.

Their first machines were a three and a half tonne Kobelco excavator and a Toyota Husky skid steer. They were fantastic and were the foundation of the demolition business that progressed into bigger machinery purchases including a twenty tonne Volvo excavator. Quality machines are paramount and the Toyotas were phenomenal. At the time there were cheaper machines available however none that would match the reliability of the Husky skid steers and as a result they have consistently used Toyota since. Most recently they purchased two brand new Case skid steers fitted with Solideal tyres from Bearcat to eliminate punctures incurred from being full time on a demolition

31

site. Bearcat Tyres are exceptional to deal with and are the only tyres worth putting on a machine working in this application.

Crucial to their business success has been the ability to maintain steady growth and strategically planning the required infrastructure for behind the scenes. Fernando knows of contractors who have landed large jobs and panicked unsure how they are going to successfully complete it on time. Another problem faced with accepting jobs out of your depth is by focusing all of your time and effort on the one project you do this at the detriment of your regular clients and reputation. D & V Services only pitch for work that they know they can confidently complete whilst maintaining their existing clientele and strong market brand.

This strong market presence has allowed them further expansion into landfill and civil works. This section has approximately fifteen excavators, crushers, screens, high and low speed shredders, loaders, rollers and nearly every piece of earthmoving equipment you can

imagine. The fleet comprises of a vast array of manufacturers including Volvo, Kawasaki, Bobcat, Toyota and Case to name a few. They are not brand specific and are happy to trial any brand machine for a few years however they don’t purchase machines unless they have a use for them. Fernando likens it to owning a yacht as you need to know the difference between good debt and bad debt with good debt making you money and with bad debt you own a yacht.

To complement their machines it is important to have equally good attachments and they boast an impressive range to ensure every component of the job is completed with ease. You can have the best machine however your attachments are the business end of any job so skimping on these is business suicide. Their attachments include concrete pulverisers, grabs, Embrey rotating shears, timber shears, grabs and finger grabs. They also own a range of rock breakers including Atlas Copco, Indeco and Montabert. The Montabert is by far Fernando’s favourite with four in the fleet from a one and a half tonne up to a V45 variable speed which absolutely out performs every other hammer and has worked out to be one of the best buys in his entire fleet. But the pride of the attachment quiver is their brand new Kinshofer Multi Processor. This is a combi head and a shear allowing them to change heads as required depending on the application and the material whether it is concrete, steel on it’s own, or steel encased concrete saving a lot of money in several ways. Fernando says that the German made Kinshofer attachments are the absolute top of the tree. The operators he has spoken to internationally within the same industry that own them with no vested interest in Kinshofer also believe that hands down they are better

than anything else they have ever tried or used before. This particular head is the very first one in Australia and after hours upon hours of obsessive research Fernando is confident that it will give them an edge over anything else being used in the country.

This particular Multi-Quick Processor uses a patented cylinder that gains you access to significantly more power. The other noticeable difference to any other similar attachment is the processing speed. The cycle between close and open is approximately five seconds which is outstanding. This alone allows you to complete substantially more processing in the same amount of time. This is their first Kinshofer purchase and they are really excited about being able to enter the realm of such amazing attachments. When purchasing and using top of the line premium equipment you expect a high level of service which is exactly what Brendan at Kinshofer Australia delivers.

The workshop mechanic and apprentice carry out their entire machine and attachment maintenance in house; aside from warranty work. They have a hydraulic specialist who visits three or four days a week

33

and they fabricate their own gear including one of the best head plates we have seen. This masterpiece has been designed by Geoffrey their star boilermaker and uses extra thick steel and their own reinforcing design. Their dedicated workshop means they are always first in line and their machinery never experiences downtime.

With the head office and core business based in Salisbury, South Australia it is interesting to hear Fernando talk of a long list of jobs all over Australia including the Northern Territory and various sites all over the country. They even have another small office in Gumdale, Queensland mainly focused on asbestos removal and building works. For the last year they have also been able to offer clients the full package by branching out their capabilities to civil works allowing them to come on site, remove any asbestos, demolish and continue to completion with one point of contact for the entire process. This is great for clients as it streamlines invoicing, eliminates cross over of trades and the confusion of finalised work tasks.

In addition to client projects they also have their own developments that involve purchasing difficult sites where they carry out the demolition, establish it to the stage that they either keep it themselves or move it on. They have done this successfully a couple of times and are about to start on the old Penrice industrial site at Osmond that is fourteen and a half hectares of land which has been there since 1939. This job will involve asbestos removal and demolition with the rest unknown. All they are worried about at this stage is getting it all down.

Another large project is in Darwin and these big jobs are no different to the little ones. You have to achieve the best job, in as little time as possible and with zero disruptions. You can quickly start losing money if the job takes too long or your machinery lets you down rendering it crucial to have good operators and the best equipment possible.

Looking to the future Fernando says they really do take it year by year as the business is continually developing. They are always looking to value add and complement their business so if presented with a fantastic opportunity then they will go for it. On a personal level Fernando laughs visioning himself on a beach in the Bahamas hopefully in the next twenty years. On a serious note his four boys are coming up through the ranks and hopefully they can take the business reigns. The eldest Sean is doing well working for himself in demolition, Aaron and Adam are working in the business on the tools and the fourth Daniel is still at school.

After spending the day with Fernando we soon learn that this larger than life character is equally serious about having fun as he is running a successful business and he seems to have mastered work life balance. Top of his priority is travelling to the United States linking in perfectly with his hobby of American classic and muscle cars. Fernando’s car collection is easily one of the most impressive we have seen consisting of a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz, a 1960 Cadillac

Eldorado De Ville Coupe, a 1957 Cadillac Coupe, a 1957 Cadillac convertible, a 1967 Eldorado black, a 1968 Corvette big block convertible and a 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible big block 400.

Demolition has evidently thrived for Fernando due to his hard work and passion. For anyone interested in entering the industry Fernando believes you need to exude the same dedication. There are always opportunities available however if you start on the ground and evolve into the business understanding the steps from the lowest job to the highest job you will always be at the top of your game.

We were absolutely thrilled to spend the day with such an incredible personality and industry figure. Fernando’s passion for the industry, his business and all of the 80 workers within it was infectious and we are thrilled to share his story with you.

Family run business is the lifeblood of Iowa. Farming being the backbone of the Hawkeye state, it’s common to see generations of any given family out in the field together to get the work done.

The story of the Kellen family from Le Mars, Iowa reads very similarly…but with a twist. Hogs and cows have given way to demolition, recycling, trucking and land clearing – plus they still farm 3,000 acres of beans and corn.

graduating, I made them each go to school for more education. I had a few pieces of equipment and would get calls to clear land. Then I got my first excavator I’d have people calling me up – hey, can you clear this piece of land for me, or they’d want an old barn or some other building torn down and we did it.”

Del’s planning turned into something even he did not immediately expect. The calls for demolition would come, he would take the job. Demolition produced tons of metal to recycle, so he started a scrap business. Demolition produced tons of concrete to recycle, so he started a full-fledged concrete recycling business. Calls for tree clearing to claim more farm acreage came in, and – you guessed it – the Kellens became tree removal experts.

Today, Kinshofer helps him get the job done faster than ever before.

“All three of my boys are working the business, and they’re all good at different things and I need to keep ‘em busy,” he tells us. We used to run a bunch of different tools for different things, but none of them matched – all different brands. There just wasn’t one tool out there that we could use and do everything people were hiring us to do. And with the high-reach excavator we have, the Kinshofer tools have really made things easy for us.”

Kellen Excavting uses an MQP30 with 4 different jaw sets. The combi jaw cracks big concrete and steel into chunks that can be easily trucked off-site. The pulverizer jaws downsize the concrete into fist-sized pieces and it removes all the rebar, making a super-clean product to feed into a crusher. “There’s no way a crew of six guys with chainsaws can do in a day what this wood jaws does on the MQP. They might be able to get close for one day if they worked really hard and fast, but there’s no way they would have the endurance to do it for 2 days in a row,” said Pat Kellen, frequent operator of the MQP on a Komatsu high-reach machine. “And when we’ve got material back in the yard for recycling, we bring it back there to start processing – either concrete or steel. It’s fast – really fast.”

On the day we caught up with Pat, he was also using his Kinshofer D-24 grapple to excavate and load concrete slab to haul away from a jobsite for recycling later. The grapple picked up pieces of non-reinforced concrete weighing in at more than a ton without ever letting them slip.

“The Kinshofer tools have been good – very reliable. We have a lot of different jobs for them, but they just keep going and they keep going fast,” Pat said.

Thanks, Pat – we couldn’t have said it any better!

On the journey to a demonstration of the OilQuick fully hydraulic quick coupler system at a location in Germany, a number of drivers were plainly sceptical. However, on the return trip everyone was highly enthusiastic. Every one of the drivers praised the many advantages. And particularly the fact that from the cabin they were able to change equipment within a few seconds, including the on-off coupling on the hydraulic hoses required. The more efficient usability was unanimously acknowledged, as well as the significant gain in time that can be achieved as a result.

Profitable and cost-effectiveRoy van Berkel, owner and director of the similarly named demolition company based in the North Holland village of Winkel speaks. „After the trip to Germany, we were the first company in the Netherlands to start working with the OilQuick system together with Demarec. I haven‘t regretted it once in all that time. What‘s more: all our machinery is now equipped with the OilQuick fully hydraulic quick coupler system. For example the short boom of the PC 490-10 is equipped with OilQuick OQ 90. A new Demarec MQP 60 processor and DRG 45 demolition and sorting grab is suspended from it. A DRG 28 demolition and sorting grab and an MQP 30 jaw is suspended from the long boom. They are equipped with OilQuick OQ 80. All our other Komatsu excavators are also fitted with OilQuick OQ 80 and Demarec demolition tools.

Innovative demolisherVan Berkel has been a customer of Demarec for 13 years now. He praises the employees of Demarec for their many years of experience and

REPORT OilQuick Hydraulic Quick Coupler System Guarantees Professionalism and Improves Productivity

A growing number of demolition companies in Holland recognize the many advantages of OilQuick

expertise. „That is translated in the quality of the demolition tools, which have a long useful life and a high trade-in value. The coupler system and the various jaws enables workers to carry out the entire gamut of demolition work professionally.“ A new product is the E(xtreme) jaw for the MQP range. The modified jaw geometry and the optimum position of the teeth enables workers to cut through even thicker concrete structures. Highly suitable for machinery with long demolition booms. However, this type of jaw can also be used with the MQP jaw for even thicker structures. The DemaPower system gives workers a great deal of power combined with fast cycle times. The unique cylinder technology includes a cylinder that has 4 pressure chambers instead of 2. This enables the express valve to work in 2 directions: cylinder in and cylinder out. As a result, the cylinder works much faster to give quicker cycle times. Another important result is the power. The cylinder is now 20% stronger!

Increased efficiency and productivityA growing number of demolition companies in the Netherlands are realizing the advantages of the OilQuick system. As a result of correctly using the right demolition tools, equipment suffers less and the cost of add-on machinery parts is reduced. Also, because changes can be

39

made faster, work can be carried out more efficiently and productivity is boosted. Furthermore, there are no more maintenance costs as there are no more problems with broken hoses. With regard to the investments, Van Berkel says: „The capital investment pays for itself within 18 months, as you work more productively and cost effectively. If you sort and lay out the accessories you need in advance, you can change equipment in succession.. and work without stopping. You work not only in a more organized way, but also better. Machinery is even more efficient and productive. As indicated, using machinery and demolition tools in the way they are designed significantly increases their useful life and this results in huge savings on maintenance and repair costs. Freedom from machine standstill On a demolition project this translates into potential cost savings of 10%. Not entirely unimportant is that the correct use of demolition tools and machinery also results in a reduction in fuel consumption. During periods in which prices are under fierce pressure, there are certainly savings to be made. Obviously, you need to be careful when changing equipment and avoid working too roughly.“

Another change will be the replacement of the TR18NOX with the new TR19NOX (14t to 19t / 30800 lbs to 41800 lbs operating weight). Both types are characterized by the same features as the remaining sizes TR06NOX, TR10NOX and TR25NOX:

• Precision and safety due to „smooth“ proportional control (optional).• High stability and long service life thanks to special cast housing.• Low overall height thanks to elliptic rotary actuator: large travel.• High and constant tilting force due to cylinderless rotary actuator.• No protruding parts: excavation with narrow bucket possible in small, deep canals, even under or in between existing tubes. • Low maintenance: worm drive lubricated permanently (grease).

JOB REPORT

Water and Sewer Jobs with the NOX

NOX Tiltrotator with Wheel Cutter and Tube Layer

MrLind AB is a contracting company with a local presence in Sösdala outside Hässleholm in southern Sweden, that mainly realizes water and sewer jobs. It also undertakes assignments in the cable and line construction and possesses an explosives license in case some mountain needs to be moved.MrLind AB is a company that puts great emphasis on detail and choice of partners. The owner Martin Lind has many years of experience in ground works and has recently invested in his second NOX Tiltrotator with respective bucket package from RF-Systems AB.Martin says: ”I have had several years of cooperation with RF-Systems and used their gear and when some years ago I was in need of a new tiltorator, we began discussions about the NOX and a suitable bucket package for my Neuson wheeled excavators. The deciding factor in the choice of investing in a KINSHOFER TR06NOX tiltorator was its flexibility. Most missions include the closure of the hose or cable and we strive for shafts as narrow as possible. The NOX has no protruding pistons obstructing the vision or being an

obstruction in the trench as we dig, and also regarding its strength and flexibility the choice was simple. I am more than satisfied and have now decided to also equip my small 3,5 t / 7700 lbs machine with a NOX. I have seen great benefits thanks to my choice of tiltrotator.“MrLind has been one of several entrepreneurs that have tested RF-Systems‘ new fiber plow for laying fiber cables. The cable plow is adapted to smaller machines of up to 4 t / 8800 lbs operating weight. The plow has an integrated pulley which divides the material before the sword will add the pipes. It can easily place hoses in a depth of 550 mm / 21.7 in.Martin comments: ”RF‘s fiber plow is saving many hours of recovery at a cable trench. We can place easy connections to properties with minimum damage to their lawns. The advantage of the integrated wheel is that one can cut the asphalt. You simply change the tube layer for different tube sizes.

JOB REPORT The New TR19NOX and a Komatsu PW148-10 A Perfect MatchNewest member of KINSHOFER NOX family, TR19NOX, was delivered to Finland for the extreme test. The unit has all the latest innovations in the tiltrotator sector: A High-Flow swivel with two extra functions, an electrical swivel which enables the use of safety couplers and integrated sensors fo the 2D/3D excavating systems, no protruding cylinders, a compact and slim cast steel housing with a low overall structural height, a wide tilting angle and availabiliy of all required controlling systems.

The new version of TR19NOX is now available for the excavators between 14 ton and 19 ton operating weight. The latest unit was delivered to Finland to Konekaivuu Myllylä Oy. The TR19NOX with proportional controlling system CSP from Kinshofer was installed to a new Komatsu PW148-10 excavator. Myllylä wanted his excavator to be also equipped with wheel steering and driving functions. KINSHOFER and its partners delivered the complete controlling system for both, tiltrotator control and drive function control for this excavator. This system enables the controlling of the excavator‘s driving function and the tiltrotator‘s use by means of the installed joysticks in the cabin. TR19NOX was also equipped with an integrated gripper TRG18.

Konekaivuu Myllylä Oy operates mainly on demanding cabeling construction sites and is focused to work as a subcontractor for bigger electricity companies. The work envolves a lot of different excavating works and also a lot of handling of aged high voltage pylons of the electrical power lines. Target on the work site is often to lay the electrical lines underground, that up to now were hanging in the air. Today in Finland this kind of projects employs a lot of subcontractors with excavating equipment. Time tables are often tight and this means that the contractors must have top of the line excavators with the best attachment tools.

Why a NOX tiltrotator?“In my previous machine Lännen 8600i backhoe I had a NOX already and I was very happy with the performance of the unit. This is the main reason why I wanted to equip my new Komatsu PW148-10 excavator with a NOX too. Now the new TR19 was just available, which is a very strong and robust unit and suits perfectly to the work sites where we are working. We need a tiltrotator compact by size but robust by construction and with a reliable performance. Therefore our choice was a TR19NOX from Kinshofer”, says Martti Myllylä, Managing Director of Konekaivuu Myllylä Oy and continues: “My decision was an easy one. And the opportunity to get the latest model TR19 made it even easier.” Many colleagues asked Martti, why he bought the NOX for his new excavator and he always replied, that „once you get used to drive with NOX and with tiltrotator without cylinders, you don’t want to go back to the ones with cylinders. Especially now with these new models of NOX that are very robust and strong.

# 06 Quick Hitches & BucketsPRODUCT NEWS

KINSHOFER is now delivering its standard program for quick couplers and buckets from stock: that means short delivery times. Especially for that purpose, a new additional warehouse was built at the Czech KINSHOFER location that is connected with the headquarters in Waakirchen, Germany, by a steady truck shuttle transport. The already produced products from the standard program are thus fast available for the different carrier machines of the customers.

Five years ago, the Bavarian manufacturer of high-quality attachments for loader cranes and excavators had begun to add quick couplers and buckets to the already huge product range. Meanwhile, the program comprises couplers with different adaptions for known quick coupler systems – for direct pin-to-pin mount, with X-Lock security system, or flexible quick couplers with multiple adaption function. Since last year, KINSHOFER is also producing a comprehensive program of mechanical and hydraulic couplers and buckets that are compatible to the ”System Lehnhoff“. This range is interesting for all those operators that are used to that common German system and already have suitable attachments.

KINSHOFER is manufacturing quick couplers for excavators with 0.5t up to 40t operating weight as well as the respective adapters (weld-on, bolt-on or for cardanic mount). Buckets that already include the weld-on adapter as standard or symmetric version – the latter allowing the use of a general bucket as face shovel – are also part of the assortment. The coupler range for excavators starting from 2t operating weight are made of special cast steel to better withstand tough conditions. Everything in proven KINSHOFER quality, everything from one single source!

Quick couplers and adapters are only one part of the new product range, different bucket options form the other one. KINSHOFER is now offering a large product line of high-quality general, trenching and ditch cleaning buckets with different cutting widths and teeth options for excavators with 0.5t to 40t operating weight.

The customers can also choose between two versions of hydraulically tiltable buckets: the TBL-version is a bucket tilted by a horizontal hydraulic cylinder, whereas the cylinderless TBRAL-version is equipped with the strong and maintenance-free KINSHOFER RA rotary actuator. Of course, the customer also has the option to equip every bucket or attachment with a KINSHOFER TC tilt coupler for excavators with 1.5t to 22t operating weight. The TC-range is also equipped with the cylinderless RA rotary actuator (up to 2 x 90° tilting angle), increa-sing the manoeuvrability of every attachment, and it is especially suitable on sites requiring different attachments. For the ones that need to rotate and tilt their working tools, KINSHOFER is offering NOX

tiltrotators with quick couplers for excavators with 3t to 25t operating weight.

For over 44 years, KINSHOFER is the first address for high-quality attachments for excavators and loader cranes. Today, KINSHOFER is one of the worldwide leading sources of different quick coupling solutions for excavators – no matter the system.

The new T12H timber grab for rigid mount combines the strength of the proven KINSHOFER rotation with robust tines for timber, made of highly wear-resistant material. The grab is used in forestry for rolled lumber as well as for special demolition tasks. It is also perfectly applicable for piling foundations. Thanks to the special shell kinematics, the grab is able to hold timber with only 110 mm up to 590 mm / 4.3 in up to 23.2 in diameter without any problems. The integrated rotation with sturdy slewing ring and 2 motors is mounted by default. The integrated non-return valve prevents the unintentional opening of the tines at pressure drops. The grab is ideal for excavators with 8t to 12t / 17600 to 26400 lbs operating weight.

To reinforce the canals in The Netherlands, special metal sheets are required. Accordingly a special grab is needed to load and unload those specific materials. In order to meet the customers‘ demands, the Dutch dealer Rigter Handelsonderneming had ordered a C18VE with especially developed shells for that task for the company Boomgaard Transport. The grab has an exceptional opening of 3200 mm / 126 in and is able to lift loads of up to 10t / 22000 lbs. Thanks to the shell exchange system of the already proven KINSHOFER C18VE, the module of the grab with the integrated rotation can also be used with other shell options for different tasks. The clamshell bucket can handle sheets with widths from 100 mm up to 3190 mm / 3.9 in up to 125.6 in.The integrated non-return valve prevents the unintentional opening of the tines at pressure drops.

The Lower Churchill Project is a planned hydroelectric project in Labrador, Canada, to develop the remaining 35 per cent of the Churchill River that has not already been developed by the Churchill Falls Generating Station. The hydroelectric potential of Muskrat Falls and Gull Island make the lower Churchill River in Labrador the best undeveloped hydroelectric source in North America. Together, they have a combined capacity of more than 3000 megawatts, will be able to provide 16.7 terawatt hours of electricity a year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 3.2 million vehicles off the road each year.Natural rivers are always bringing along a lot of gravel, rocks and wood that needs to be removed to keep the dam clean and protect it from damage. For that purpose, the KINSHOFER department for special solutions has developed two specific tools: one clamshell bucket and one polyp grab, both able to work underwater (up to 50m under the surface). The polyp grab is used to remove driftwood from the water surface as well as big rocks from the ground that are brought by the river. The clamshell bucket is used to dig out the washed up gravel from the riverbed. The two shells of the grab can be controlled individually. The larger shell is used to scrape the gravel from the gound, the smaller shell then closes to lift up the material to the surface, where it can be emptied. The carrier machine that will also be equipped with the world‘s largest hydraulically operated trash rack cleaning system, comes from the German company Muhr. For over 50 years, the family business Muhr stands for quality in hydropower, process water and bulk cargo engineering. Muhr is delivering its products to worldwide leading companies from different industries.

Daniel Tamiazzo from DNT Earthworks and Transport in Australia was more than happy when he tested the light weight cable bucket from KINSHOFER. He was surprised on how much materiel could be moved without affecting the balance of the little carrier machine he was using. In his opinion, the main advantages were the fuel savings and that he needed less time to do the same job. He finally purchased the buckets he had tested.
