A monthly manual devoted to leaching how to Iearn to draw the ROBOTECH'IM animated

cartoon characters and fighting craft in an intelligent and easy to understand way. Each

issue will cover one or more characters or devices from each of the lhree major

storylines lhat make up the RO BOTECHRM saga

. Each storyline will be featured in

rotation. Issues 1 through 4 will focus on the MACROSS characters, issues 5 lhrough

9 will cover the SOUTHERN CROSS characters and issues 1 0 through 1 2 will cover

the NEW GENERATION characters. Issues 13 through 24 will repeat the rotation

examining new material from each storyline.

provides a model to pattern himself after in Martian base. In reaction lo her fiance's

his growlh lo manhood. death she becomes a hyper-efficient officer

with a repulation as a *cold fish,* especially

in Rlck Hunter's eyes. Eventually, however,

she falls in Iove with Rick and conlinues a

rocky romance with him throughout the slory.

all their favorite characlers and mecha.

Each month we will demonstrate how to

draw one or two characters from the

show in the first half of lhe book, and

highlight how to draw some of the

fantastic transforming fighting craft or

M echa, in the second half.

Unlike some other how-to-draw books

on the stands which offer only a bland

step-by-step *copy-me' approach, we

will demonstrate how to actually

c o n s t r u c t a draw ing, the way

professional anists do. By showing the

ru I es and the t h I n k I n g that go into

each drawing, we hope that you will

Iearn more than just how to copy a face

or a pose that is already in front of

you. You will learn how to draw these

characters and craft in any pose or

angle you can imagine.

Each drawing is constructed from baslc

shapes and arranged accordinq to

relationships called proportlons

.

Every

part of a figure is psaced by measurng

its height or widlh as compared with the

other parts. In figure drawing

, the basic

unil of measuremenl is the HEAD

.

The ead is construoted from an oval or

egg-shape. Lines dividing the surface of

the shape into halves mark 1he places

where oyes, ears, noses

, mowths and other

features are Iocated

.

Always rem ember

that you are describing a solid curved

surface, so Iines wrap around the basic

shape and rurve when 1he shape is tilted

or turned.

The body is measured in head-helqhts

.

This male figure is 7 1/2 heads tall (you

don't count the halr). The legs attach to the

hips at the halfway mark

.

Most other

landmafks on the figure are calculated by

dividing the height inlo thlrds

halves or

quarters and noting what body pac falls

close to one of these Iines

.

Pay close attenlion to how long the arms

an le9s are, and where the joints are

located

.

These relationships remain the

same no matler what posilion the body is

in .
