Which foods can you see in the picture? Why do we eat?

We need to drink six to eight glasses of water every day.

NUTRIENT IN THE FOOD

Food contains the nutrients we need to live and grow.

There are five types of nutrients:CARBOHYD

FATS

VITAMINS

Do all foods contain the same nutrients?

There are five type of nutrients: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins. Different foods contain different nutrients.

CARBOHYDRATES

Carbohydrates gives us energy to run, ride a bike, study .

Potatoes, pasta (noodle and macaroni) bread, cereals, pulses (chickpea, lentils, beans and rice)

FATS

Fats build a store of extra energy for when we eat. Don’t eat too many or you become unhealthy and overweight!

Oil, butter, chorizo, cheese and nuts.

MINERALSANDVITAMINS

Vitamins and minerals help us to stay healthy.

Fruit and vegetables (cucumber, aubergine, pepper, lettuce)

MINERALS ANDCALCIUM

Oranges and mandarins: Vitamin C

Carrots: Vitamin A

Milk: contains calcium.

PROTEINS

Proteins help us to grow. Proteins make our hair and nails grow.

Meat (chicken, beef), fish, eggs, nuts and milk, pulses (example: lentils, chickpea and beans)
