NPW activities over the last two months
NPW Recent Activities
NPW is a mutual organisation set
up by Newham Schools to provide
services for them. We have just
reviewed what we have been doing
over the past two months to meet
our strategic priorities. Organised
under these priorities, here is what
we have been doing.
1. To Support schools in running
smoothly and effectively by
providing and commissioning high
quality cost efficient services.
On 28th January we held the
termly User Group meeting. This
was attended by head teachers,
school business managers and
governors. Useful feedback was
again given, including for NPW to
explore running a procurement
advice line for schools.
We report an aspect of our
performance in each newsletter.
2. To support and enhance the
collaboration between schools and
between schools and the local
authority.
We have completed a useful mid
year review with the local
authority of the Education
Guarantee projects for which we
are responsible, covering some
areas of governor support, school
improvement and supporting head
teachers.
We have chaired the termly
meeting with Best Practice
Network and the Institute of
Education to review the CPD
contract (this has now been
extended to July 2015).
We continue to work on the
schools wireless access project,
funded by NPW.
Members of the senior leadership
team have attended meetings of
the secondary Business Managers
network and the Primary Business
Managers network.
We are finalising with the local
authority arrangements for
Fronter (Newham schools‟ MLE)
to be the repository of all LA
guidance to schools.
3. To enhance the reputation of
Newham and empower our
members schools.
NPW have organised filming by
the BBC TV One Show of the
school meals arrangements at
Curwen Primary School.
NPW have spoken at a national
school caterers event, alongside St
Luke‟s Primary School and
Sheringham Primary School.
NPW have hosted a visit from
Oxfordshire Education to
Sheringham Primary School
regarding school meals.
NPW have represented London
users on the selection panel for
LGFL‟s new broadband provider.
4. To bring in additional resources
that can be used for the good of the
children and young people.
NPW have secured governor
support business with two further
primary schools in neighbouring
boroughs.

School visited The Houses of Parliament. As part of their tour,
they met Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, whom they

True to his words, Mr Timms came to visit Vicarage Primary

the school, showing off the new Sports hall, the field that is to
be developed into a Multi-Use Games Area and the new Early
Years building.
He then attended the Lower Key Stage 2 assembly and along
with Councillor Rev. Quintin Peppiatt and Head Teacher, Mrs
Yvonne Ward, handed out achievement certificates to the
students.
Mr Timms then enjoyed a delightful lunch prepared by Donna
Maybin, Vicarage's resident chef!
He sat with the school councillors and talked about their
visions to improve their education development.
Steven Timms' visit to Vicarage Primary has been an
inspiration to all the children, especially the School
