They were happily marimba playing when our visitors arrived so Phil and Lillian were an engaged audience as we completed our song. Lillian hopes to come back to spend a day with us as she loved Nowendoc Public. Phil will be back in term 4. Next week we welcome Nian- gala, Woolbrook and Yarrow- itch to our annual Debating Day. Tracey Worth does a marvelous job organizing and hosting this day. We hope parents will come along and show their support for Lis and Lana as they join with Chloe Worth, Niangala, to compete against Woolbrook. The P&C will be running a canteen at recess and lunch so would greatly appreciate donations of cakes, slices and biscuits. Keep smiling. Week 8 and we are enjoying a week of just being together at school. The only downside has been the absence of Emily. We hope the Robards are resting and will soon be free from the dreaded recur- ring flu, which has hit with a vengeance this winter. The last two days of sun- shine and no wind have been glorious. Our blue tongue lizard has been spotted again and the echidna’s have been dodging the children as they play on the equipment. A menacing mummy magpie has been testing the chil- dren’s problem solving strate- gies as they navigate the oval. It has been an intriguing team building exercise! Last Friday, there was much excitement, when The Teddy Bear Hospital opened it’s doors at school. Ann-Marie Kaltz and her entourage of young medical students from Newcastle were kept busy treating teddies of all ages. X -rays, stethoscopes, sphyg- momanometers, tongue de- pressors, ear lights were all explored but it was the hum- ble band-aid which gained the most interest. Perhaps the myriad of pretty, brightly coloured characters adorning the band-aids had something to do with their popularity. It was a wonderful morning, enjoyed as much by the adults as the children. Thanks to the parents and grandparents who joined us for this special event. Our visit from Mr Phil Jones, School Education Director and Dr Linley Cornish, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Educa- tion, UNE was an opportunity to show off our little school. Devouring Dad’s Delicacies

Curry Lis Bourke Yr 6

I open the door, drop my bag and it hits me...The chilli! The onion! The gar-lic! It all wafts up my nose.

I walk to the kitchen excitedly hoping to see an empty bottle of curry paste on the bench. My prayers are answered.

Oblivious to the fact that my family is going to have to eat this in a short while, I open the cutlery draw and carefully, silently, obtain a fork. I dig my fork into the wok, attempting to pick up as much flavour, on that single fork, as possible. It reaches my mouth. As it smothers my taste buds with spic-es and every other familiar taste, I decide I need more. I dip my fork in again, a bit slower this time.

I’m suddenly awoken out of my haze. “You do realise we have to eat that later” said Torse, knowing Dad had excelled once again.

Creamy Pasta Lana Clifford Yr 4

My nose was tingling as I strode into the kitchen to see dad cooking deli-cious creamy pasta. The heavenly pasta had burnt crispy bacon, spiced chicken and crunchy onion in it. The smell of cream surrounded me. We sat at the table devouring the meal. I stroked the smooth, slippery spa-ghetti drowned in cream. I slurped the spaghetti down, the warm piece of delight slid down smoothly. My taste buds were screaming desperately for more. I took a bite of the onion. CRUNCH! went the beautiful onion. After my third helping I told dad how delicious it was. He told me, “We’re going to have it again tomorrow night”. My stomach was so excited! I was thinking about it as I ate my cold, chocolate sprinkled, mint ice-cream with a strawberry on top. I licked my lips. Yum!

Teddy Bear’s Hospital

On Friday, the Teddy Bear’s Hospital came to our school, to have a check-up on our ted-dies. Ann– Marie Kalz introduced us to the doctors. Then they told us what they do.

My teddy, Holly, had a check-up as her complaint was a sore ear.

The little kids had fun with the doctors and the teddies all received their appointment cer-tificates.

We had a great time. (Lana Clifford, yr 4)

Happy 7th Birthday Emily

Little Em’s birthday was on Monday and she has been too ill to celebrate. We hope this cheers her up!

Mary’s Birthday

My mum is like Wonder Woman,

She can do anything,

Cook things, wash things and love me.

My mum is as tall as a giraffe,

And as loving as a chimp,

Small, comfy and smart.

My mum is like a robot,

Looking after me each day,

Busy as a bee.

My mum has a voice like a harmony of angels,

Always protective,

And making me happy.

She cares for me like a lion,

Keeping me safe.

My mum is wonderful...

Because she is my mum!
