The Great Month of March
March is a busy month as orchids and other plants begin to perk up; and our not-to-be-missed semi-annual auction on Thursday March 9 will perk you up. Our auctions are our primary fundraiser so be gener-ous with your bidding; and remember cash and checks only – and bring your friends; the auction is open to the public.
Last month was our the DCOS Show where our exhibit built by Nate DePinto, assisted by Trudi Bliesath, Anita Gibaldi, Julie Hallberg, Bonnie Huff, Richard Rampi-nelli, and Jane Schwocho, won the trophy for Best Society Exhibit! Richard Rampinelli saved the day with his staple gun which was needed to put up the black backdrop; and then he had the black marker so we could “hide” the staples! It was a great team effort on one of the warmest days the winter - and then it snowed. A full list of our volunteers appears later in this newsletter – many thanks to all.
This month, the Philadelphia Flower Show is March 11-19. This year’s theme is “Holland Coloring the World” and it looks like an colorful floriferous adventure. Just what you need to know—that Spring is on its way. Have an orchid you’d like to put in the Philly Show? Contact me. I’d be happy to deliver it, handle the pa-perwork, and bring it back from the show perhaps with a ribbon for you!
Immediately after the Philadelphia Flower show, is the SEPOS Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks PA. Our load-in is Thursday March 23. We will need your blooming orchids for our last show of the season. Contact me, Anita Gibaldi or Bill Stend-er to arrange a plant drop off. Judging is Friday March 24, and the load-out is Sunday March 26 at 5PM. We desperately need help with the load-out; if you can help, it would be much appreciated.
I’ll be working the Philadelphia Flower Show — orchids, of course - and won’t be able to attend the March auction. So I’ll see you all in April.
It is indeed March Madness!
REMINDERS
Next month is our auction. Just a couple of reminders to help the auction run efficiently:
If you are donating plants for the auction, please email the plant name along with a photo of the flower to Richard Ho ([email protected]) by Monday, March 6, 2017 and bring to the March 9 meeting by 6:30 pm. Non-registered plant donations will not be accepted on the day of the auction.
Remember to bring any coupons with you if want to redeem them at the auction.
Don't forget to bring your cash or checkbook, credit cards are not ac-cepted.
There will be a huge event at Hanover Manor on the night of the meeting, so please arrive early to ensure a parking spot. Also, our Dinner and Auction will be held in the basement room.

2017 Philadelphia Flower Show
While this is not a dedicated orchid show, there are usually a number of intriguing entries. The PFS has made it easier to participate for orchid growers. You still have to register way in ad-vance, but you do not have to provide the details of the plant till just before the show (when you know what you actually will have in bloom). If you would like to show a plant or two, you can down-load the instructions and forms here:

We are holding an Open House
From January through April, NJOS will have an open house where non-members and visitors are welcome to come to our meetings and try us out. Bring a friend!
