Greetings to all in the Name of the Risen Lord!May our worship celebrate the joy and hope, peace and presence, of our Lord Jesus Christ, raised to life for us. We welcome all, especially our guests. If you do not have a church home please consider Divine Shepherd. We would love to have you as part of our family. Please take a minute and sign our guest book.

A prayer before WorshipThis is the day you have made, O Lord Jesus, a day of new life and eternal celebration! The stone is moved; death is defeated; heaven is open. As Your disciples first saw and believed Your victory over the tomb, so give us joy in the promise You made and keep for us: because You live, we live also! Amen.

The Lord’s SupperThe Lord’s Supper is celebrated in the confession and gladness that, as our Lord says, He gives into our mouth not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord Jesus invites to His table those who trust His Words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the blood of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. (1 Cor 11:28 ESV) Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar.  Any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or hold a confession differing from that of the Holy Scriptures, this congregation, and the Lutheran Church~Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked to speak with Pastor Sturzenbecher.

Members and guests of DSLC and School we stream our services through Facebook Live. With this stream we do publish this to our Facebook page which means your face may end up on our Facebook page. If you are not comfortable with this, please talk to Pastor to address this concern. -Thank you, The AV Team.

Invocation & ExhortationP In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy

Spirit.C Amen.P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth

is not in us.

C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confession & Absolution

P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature

sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

Collect of the Day

Old Testament Reading Proverbs 8:11–2211For wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. 12“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion. 13The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. 14I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength. 15By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just; 16by me princes rule, and nobles, all who govern justly. 17I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me. 18Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness. 19My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver. 20I walk in the way of righteousness, in the paths of justice, 21granting an inheritance to those who love me, and filling their treasuries. 22“The LORD possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old.”

A This is the Word of the Lord.C Thanks be to God.

Catechetical ReviewThe Ten CommandmentsThe Tenth CommandmentYou shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not entice or force away our neighbor's wife, workers, or animals, or turn them against him, but urge them to stay and do their duty.

Epistle Philippians 3:17–2117Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who

walk according to the example you have in us. 18For many, of whom I 9

have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. 20But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. A This is the Word of the Lord.C Thanks be to God.

Holy Gospel Matthew 22:15–22P The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the Twenty-

second chapter.C Glory to You, O Lord. 15Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle [Jesus] in his talk. 16And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. 17Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. 20And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the

things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 22When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away. P This is the Gospel of the Lord.C Praise to You, O Christ.

Sermon

Nicene CreedC I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty,     maker of heaven and earth          and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ,     the only-begotten Son of God,     begotten of His Father before all worlds,     God of God, Light of Light,     very God of very God,     begotten, not made,     being of one substance with the Father,     by whom all things were made;     who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven     and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary     and was made man;     and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.     He suffered and was buried.     And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures          and ascended into heaven     and sits at the right hand of the Father.

And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,     whose kingdom will have no end.And I believe in the Holy Spirit,     the Lord and giver of life,     who proceeds from the Father and the Son,     who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,     who spoke by the prophets.     And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,     I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,     and I look for the resurrection of the dead     and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving LSB 178P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had

mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross.Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink

His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

Lord’s PrayerC Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses  as we forgive those who trespass against us;  and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory  forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our LordP Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed,

took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My + body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My + blood,

which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Daily Devotions from the Pastors of the Black Hills Circuit Friends, I am excited to tell you about a new project from the Black Hills Circuit LCMS

23

Page 24: The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost · Web viewTwenty-third Sunday in Trinity Sunday, November 15, 20 20 Divine Service 2, Page 167 LARGE P RINT Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church

churches. We know, now more than ever what isolation does. We also know what isolation from God’s Word does.

Starting Monday November 2nd, the Black Hills Circuit will be offering daily video devotions on our Facebook page, Fellowship for the Future. Each week one of the Black Hills Circuit Churches will guide us into the hope and promise we have in God’s Word.

The devotions will be about 15 minutes and will include a Psalm and Old Testament or a New Testament reading, a section from the Catechism, the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. We will follow the readings from the Daily Lectionary in the LSB hymnal, page 299.

Starting November 2nd, the first post on the Fellowship for the future page will have a link that will direct you to that day’s devotion.

Please join us and tell your family and friends to join as we are strengthened, forgiven and given hope in Jesus.
