THE NEWSLETTER OF THE AUSTIN ALUMNAE OF KAPPA ALPHA THETA JANUARY 2013 PAGE 1 A le!er from " Prident... With the hustling and bustling of the holidays behind us, it’s time to tackle the new year and put a few dates on the calendar to catch up with your Theta sisters. Number one on the list is Founder’s Day we’re hosting our Founder’s Day event on the exact anniversary date this year so I hope you can join us for the program. We’ll continue our regular social club meetings for lunch, dinners and happy hours and we’ll pop in a few other fun events like a Springtime wine tasting, Fall cooking class, and annual coee as well as all the great events at the house throughout the year. Check out the Theta Calendar in this newsletter for event dates and mark your calendar! But there are a few changes afoot in the chapter, since 1992, Kappa Alpha Theta has asked each alumna member to pay an annual per capita fee to the Fraternity through her alumnae chapter or directly to the Fraternity as a member at - large. The per capita fees support general Fraternity operations, attendance at Grand Convention by a delegate from each alumnae chapter in good standing, alumnae chapter liability insurance and ongoing support for alumnae programming. In addition, the Fraternity has added a full-time staposition to focus exclusively on the needs of alumnae, and has enhanced a number of programs and resources for alumnae chapters and members. To continue to fund the growth of our alumnae programming and chapter support, Grand Council has implemented an increase in the annual alumnae per capita fee to $30 per member, eective Jan. 1, 2013. The Austin Theta Alumnae will collect this per capita fee from its members through 2013. This fee is comparable to those charged by other National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) groups. It is also useful to remember that Theta’s current alumnae per capita fee of $15 has not changed in 10 years! The Fraternity is committed to serving all of its members for a lifetime. The modest increase in per capita fees will ensure that our members today and in the years to come are oered the very best alumnae membership experience. In turn, the Austin Theta Alumnae group will continue to use chapter dues to provide local opportunities for alumnae engagement and enrichment. I know it’s a lot of change at once! But we’ve restructured our dues collection a bit to help oset this change so we’ll only be increasing dues levels by $10 . Now is a great time to consider joining the Life Loyal program! By joining the Life Loyal program, you pay your per capita dues for life and you are not impacted by future changes to the per capita dues. You’ll still need to pay annual chapter dues that go directly to support the programs in Austin. But there are a few changes afoot in the chapter, since 1992, Kappa Alpha Theta has asked each alumna member to pay an annual per capita fee to the Fraternity through her alumnae chapter or directly to the Fraternity as a member at-large. The per capita fees support general Fraternity operations, attendance at Grand Convention by a delegate from each alumnae chapter in good standing, alumnae chapter liability insurance and ongoing support for alumnae programming. To continue to fund the growth of our alumnae programming and chapter support, Grand Council has implemented an increase in the annual alumnae per capita fee to $30 per member, effective Jan.

In Memo(am...

Austin Alumnae of Kappa Alpha ThetaP.O. Box 26476Austin, Texas 78755-0476

On December 7, Meagan “May” Rough was laid to rest after sustaining injuries in a car accident in Lubbock. Her family and our Texas Tech sisters have appreciated the amazing support from Thetas across the country; they will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. On behalf of the Austin alumnae chapter, we have made a donation to her Memorial Fund, but if you would like to make an additional contribution, there are three options:

1) A Meagan "May" Rough Memorial Fund has been established at Wells Fargo for those who wish to donate directly to the family for medical bills and the like. Any monies not used for medical expenses will be distributed according to the family's wishes.

2) Donations may be made in memory of May directly to CASA of the South Plains. The address for CASA of the South Plains is #24 Briercroft Office Park, Lubbock, Texas 79412.

3) Donations may be made to the Kappa Alpha Theta Education Foundation and mailed to Elizabeth Cavin Thomasson, 5531 Woodrow Road, Lubbock, TX 79424-6531.
