2006 Platinum I 8300 The New Ternary Boride Mg 8 Pt 4 B and the New Intermetallic Compound PtMg 2 . — Mg8Pt4B is prepared by direct reaction of the elements (sealed Nb-tubes, 1000 °C. 21 d). The compound is isotypic with Mg8Rh4B and crystallizes in the cubic space group Fd3 m with Z = 8 (powder XRD). The structure is derived from the Ti2Ni type structure, where boron occupies cavities formed by four Mg and four Pt atoms. The new intermetallic compound PtMg 2 is also obtained from the elements (sealed Nb-tubes, 900 °C. 21 d) and adopts the tetragonal CuAl 2 type structure, (space group I4/mcm, Z = 4). — (SCHMITT, R.; GLASER, J.; MEYER*, H.-J.; Z.
