PlatinumI 8300 The New Ternary Boride Mg8Pt4B and the New Intermetallic Compound PtMg2.
— Mg8Pt4B is prepared by direct reaction of the elements (sealed Nb-tubes, 1000 °C. 21 d). The compound is isotypic with Mg8Rh4B and crystallizes in the cubic space group Fd3m with Z = 8 (powder XRD). The structure is derived from the Ti2Ni type structure, where boron occupies cavities formed by four Mg and four Pt atoms. The new intermetallic compound PtMg2 is also obtained from the elements (sealed Nb-tubes, 900 °C. 21 d) and adopts the tetragonal CuAl2 type structure, (space group I4/mcm, Z = 4). — (SCHMITT, R.; GLASER, J.; MEYER*, H.-J.; Z.
