Sexton, who arrived in our city on Saturday last, gave yesterday at the Crescent Hall one of his exhibitions of billiardlstio skill, in presence of a large number of spectators. There seems to be here now quite a revival in billiards, and the arrival of Sexton and Slosson has served to increase it. In a short time Dion and Rudolphe will arrive, and it is confidently expected that we will have a tournament of a character seldom presented before. Vigneaux cannot be brought over the water by all the inducements offered in the shape of heavy purses, and consequently he will not be here. Sexton has brought with him the Delaney badge, that has been so long in his possession that it almost seems Ikely he will keep it for- ever. The medal is of gold, with a raised figure of Columbia holding an enameled shield and en- vironed with a laurel wreath. The suspending strings are markers, and the pin is overtopped by cu es crossed with three bilhard balls, one of coral and two of pearl. The ba ge is quite an object of art, and is on exhibitioi>t Joe Walker's. THE WEATHER YESTERDAY. A General Softening in the Temperature At All Points. Frigerio's observations yesterday show the thermometer to have indicated 32 degrees above zero yesterday morning at daylight, and during the day it ranged from 84 to 46. The Signal Service telegrams show something of a softening in the weather at various points in the North and West, as will be seen from the fol. lowing reports of the temperature from observa- tions made at 8:45 p. m.: S:. Paul 80, La Crosse 88, Davenport 88, Dubuque 38, Keokuk 42, St. Luise 40, Cairo 39, Memphis b9, Vicksburg 46, Pittsburg 29, Cincinnati 36, Louisville 87, Omaha 47, Learv nworth 49, Galveston 52, Indianola 53, Corsicana 52, Shreveport 51, Augusta 44 Mobile 48. Mlontg-mery 47, Savannah 49 and 1 Key West 61. The "softening" alluded to occurred princi- pally in the extreme Northern cities, where, during the twenty-four hours preceding the hour named the temperature had risen from 6 to 13 degrees, while at the Western points the rise was from 2 to 5 degrees, the weather at nearly all the points being either fair or clear. CITY ECHOES. Edmond Carroll was yesterday sent to the Charity Hospital in a sick and destitute condition. Pilfering wood at the New Basin is the charge that holds Nick Parker a prisoner in the First Station. At the instigation of P. Peterson, Peter Wil- liams was longed in the Fifth Precinct Station, oh rged with the larceny of a lot of wearing ap- parel. Thomas Cado was arrested and immured in the Central Stati,n, charged with being found under suspicious circumstances on Canal, near Galvez street, and also with carrying a dangerous wea- pon, to wit, a slug shot. At 12 o'clock Saturday a fire broke out in the one-story frame house on Broad street, corner of 4t. Philip. The property, which was owned by Peter Bordes and ocuopred by Mr. Annory, was slightly damaged. Insured for $1000. At half-past 7 o'clock Sunday morning a man named Wm. &nderson attacked Officer Cooper, and the officer fired two shots at him without ef- feot. He afterwards male him a prisoner and looked him up in the Third Precinct Station. Frand Heighfield and Geo. West were immured in the hthrd Precinct Station, charged with being dangerous and suspicious characters. Special M ke Heunessey pulled tanm at the corner of Royal and Canal streets. J. Quinn and Mike Herman, a few hours afterward at the same corner, were arrested by Capt. Kelly on the same charge. At midnight Saturday some malicious person broke open with a rock the fire box located at the corner of Gaiennie and Levee streets and at- tempted to turn in a famle alarm, but did not enc- ceed. Later a false alarm was turned in from box 51 with a key, and was supposed to have been done by the same person. The key was released by Chief Thomas O'Connor, who took charge of it himself, which may give a clue to the guilty parties. Stabbed With a Pair of Scissors. Saturday night a difficulty took place at No 156 Erato street, between Ambrose Wayne and his wife, which terminated in the lat er being stabbed four times and slightly wounded by a pair of scissors in the hands of the former, who after consummaring his deed made good his es- cape. The wounded woman was attended by a physician, who pronounced her wounds severe though not dangerous. It appears the husband returned home drunk and was put to bed by his wife. After they bath retired they had some words and the stabbing to k place. Unnecessary Alarms. Last night, at 11 o'clock, Officer Toole turned in an alarm of fire from Wood's cotton press, corner of Canal and RBberteon, for a blaze seen at Metarie Ridge. An attempt was also made to turn in an alarm from box 152 by the watchman of the oil works, which, however, the operator at the City Hall took no oognizands of, owing to the fact of his having sounded an alarm from box 151. IN BILLIA.RD CIRCLES.

Sexton, who arrived in our city on Saturdaylast, gave yesterday at the Crescent Hall one ofhis exhibitions of billiardlstio skill, in presenceof a large number of spectators. There seemsto be here now quite a revival in billiards, andthe arrival of Sexton and Slosson has served toincrease it. In a short time Dion and Rudolphewill arrive, and it is confidently expected that wewill have a tournament of a character seldompresented before. Vigneaux cannot be broughtover the water by all the inducements offered inthe shape of heavy purses, and consequently hewill not be here.

Sexton has brought with him the Delaneybadge, that has been so long in his possessionthat it almost seems Ikely he will keep it for-ever. The medal is of gold, with a raised figureof Columbia holding an enameled shield and en-vironed with a laurel wreath. The suspendingstrings are markers, and the pin is overtoppedby cu es crossed with three bilhard balls, one ofcoral and two of pearl. The ba ge is quite anobject of art, and is on exhibitioi>t Joe Walker's.

THE WEATHER YESTERDAY.

A General Softening in the TemperatureAt All Points.

Frigerio's observations yesterday show thethermometer to have indicated 32 degrees abovezero yesterday morning at daylight, and duringthe day it ranged from 84 to 46.

The Signal Service telegrams show somethingof a softening in the weather at various points inthe North and West, as will be seen from the fol.lowing reports of the temperature from observa-tions made at 8:45 p. m.: S:. Paul 80, La Crosse88, Davenport 88, Dubuque 38, Keokuk 42, St.Luise 40, Cairo 39, Memphis b9, Vicksburg 46,Pittsburg 29, Cincinnati 36, Louisville 87, Omaha47, Learv nworth 49, Galveston 52, Indianola 53,Corsicana 52, Shreveport 51, Augusta 44 Mobile48. Mlontg-mery 47, Savannah 49 and1 Key West 61.

The "softening" alluded to occurred princi-pally in the extreme Northern cities, where, duringthe twenty-four hours preceding the hour namedthe temperature had risen from 6 to 13 degrees, while at the Western points the rise was from 2to 5 degrees, the weather at nearly all the pointsbeing either fair or clear.
