10th Anniversary Celebration VisualCreative unit SPREAD
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of The National Art Center, Tokyo, we will be developing pieces to help us visually commemorate the anniversary including posters. The visual theme will be "10 gradations". These ten layers of gradient colors which gradually increase in strength are a compilation of the last ten years as well as a symbol of the next ten years to come. This rectangular-shaped simple gradation which resembles the national flag of Japan will warmly welcome visitors to our museum. The successive layers of colors will awaken people’s imagination and creativity. The gradient colors will appear inside and outside of the museum providing inspiration and generating new emotions. Creative unit SPREAD is heading up the design of the posters. The poster designs will incorporate "10 colors of the future" each representing a different theme, "Creation" "Light" "Experience" "Hope" "Attraction" "Love" "Ascension" "Challenge" "Mystery" and "Humanity".
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary, admission will be freeon January 21 (Sat), 2017.

Emmanuelle MoureauxFrench architect / French designer. Lives in Tokyo since 1996. Inspired by the layers and colors of Tokyo that built a complex depth and density on the street, and the traditional spatial elements like sliding screens, she has created the concept of "shikiri", which literally means "dividing (creating) space with colors". Handling colors as a medium to compose space, she designs wide ranges of projects from architecture, space design, and art. Principal Architect at emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design. Associate Professor at Tohoku University of Art and Design. www.emmanuelle.jp

2Using a technique called Drawing Animation, Takashi Ishida reputation as a filmmaker/artist has been steadily growing worldwide in recent years. He also attracted a great deal of attention when exhibited at "Artist File 2010" exhibition at The NACT. In addition to museum exhibitions recently Ishida has also been receiving a lot of interest for his large scale outdoors projection mapping installations. For this exhibition it is planned that Ishida will use the passage way from the subway to the museum as his creative medium. Transforming a space not commonly used as an art location to display a dazzling installation of video art. Not to be missed.

Special exhibitions will be held during the 10th anniversary celebrations. Date: January 20(Fri) to 30(Mon), 2017 ※Closed on January 24(Tue)During the 10th Anniversary celebrations there will be two special exhibitions held at the NACT, “NACT Colors” with Emmanuelle Moureaux’s wonderful colors installation and an amazing video installation by Takashi Ishida.
Special Exhibition
1The NACT primary focus is in four areas (1) exhibitions, (2) art education, (3) art library, and (4) information collection. Emmanuelle Moureaux, an architect and designer from France, will be responsible for designing a venue to introduce the various activities that will be held during the 10th anniversary celebrations. Through the design based on the concept of "shikiri" and her installation of “100 colors”, color is used as a medium to divide and create space, conveying emotion through an imaginative and artistic approach. The “White Cube” exhibition rooms and glass façade of The NACT, which resemblesa large colorless box, will become a canvas of color, inspiration and emotion. Its walls will be filled with a variety of exhibitions, art education programs and archives to promote art. Come experience the wonderful Emmanuelle Moureaux colors exhibition along with all the other activities at The NACT.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of The NACT, we are planning a variety of events with something for everyone to enjoy.
Special Programs
1In Japan, since the 1950s, major newspapers have been organizing art exhibitions. It was not long before broadcasting stations also entered this area and a cooperative style unique to Japan was established where museums and mass media jointly organized artistic exhibitions. Today, however, the environment has changed considerably due to changes in audience orientation and further commercialization of artistic exhibitions. In this symposium, taking into consideration the historical relationship between mass media and museums as well as examples from overseas, we will examine the future of the museum exhibitions.
Symposium 1Museum and Mass Media 2
Recent contemporary art and art exhibitions give us the opportunity to realize how the concept of “artwork” has changed. Collecting different ideas and expressions of art, with their new exhibiting methods and platforms, is an issue that fully involves archives. These new tendencies shake our traditional concept of art, showing the direction for a new approach to art itself. This symposium looks at how this trend will shape the future of art exhibitions and museums.
Symposium 2 Reconsidering onArchival Tendencies
