What is happening with the MVs?

Hello! Like Tun Dr Mahathir, I’m back!

French MV Night in the Museum, 3/4/18 By Danie Picot Lively presentation on silat, keris and Malay culture by Mohd Nadzrin Wahba and @marietseng. A great philosophy on how to react to violence in a soft, determined and intelligent way. Terima kasih to #muziumnegara and the francophone volunteers guides for organizing this "Night in the Museum"!

The Story of Kapitan Yap Ah Loy by Billy Woo, 14/4/18 The effervescent Billy Woo gave us his take on Kapitan Yap Ah Loy on 14th April. 32 MVs attended. Most of us do know something about Yap Ah Loy, but Billy Woo knows a lot more including dirty linen stuff. A marvellous rags to riches story. Unfortunately Yap Ah Loy’s son was unaware of the old adage “The first generation makes the money, the 2nd generation spends it and the 3rd generation loses it”. He skipped stage 2 and went straight to stage 3!

Teh Tarik 2, 14/4/18 Some 17 MVs stayed back after Billy Woo’s talk for a little chat. Feelings poured forth and suggestions flowed. Anyway, the meeting did result in some ACTION! Saida Dasser volunteered to conduct a survey! This was emailed out 30/4/18. Did you complete the survey? If not, please do.

"Peking Man" special exhibition tour by Ahmad Hakimi Khairuddin, cultural anthropologist, 12/4/18 (repeated 3/5/18) Please read “Peking Man Disappears” by Maganjeet Kaur, 5/4/18 on MV’s Blog.

And do visit this special exhibition by 16/6/18. Hakimi gave us a very illuminating explanation of the special exhibition. This exhibition is more than just Peking Man. Many important discoveries were and are being made at Zhoukoudian. The mysterious loss of Peking Man has tended to overshadow this. Before MH370, this was one of the great Vanishing Mysteries to grip the world! So far, ancient human fossils, cultural remains and animal fossils dating from 5 million years ago to 10,000

years ago have been discovered. These include the remains of Homo erectus pekinensis, archaic Homo sapiens and Homo sapiens sapiens. As the site of significant hominid remains discovered in the Asian continent demonstrating an evolutionary cultural sequence, Zhoukoudian is of major importance within the worldwide context.

Palace Museum of China, Beijing visits Muzium Negara, 7/5/18 By Hu Ping On 7th of May, a 6-person cultural delegation led by Mr. Lou Wei, Deputy Director of the Palace Museum of China accompanied by 2 officials from China Embassy in Kuala Lumpur visited the National Museum to share the experiences of publicity activities and to discuss the possible future collaboration between China and Malaysia. Our dedicated MV member, Hu Ping gave them a 100-minutes Mandarin conducted tour guidance in four distinguished galleries. The honourable China group was amazed by our not-very-big-scale museum but very rich and solid collections, in addition to our strong guiding services that could be provided in English, Bahasa, Mandarin, Japanese and French languages! The China guests spent more time particularly in Gallery B and C as they were greatly impressed by the historical Malay Kingdoms especially with the strong relationship of China-Malacca and how Colonial Era had undoubtedly impacted the evolution of political, social and economic of Malacca until the formation of greater modern Malaysia.
