FROM THE PRIESTFROM THE PRIEST
We always look for signs to help us out in life, even in our faith. There are people who come up to me (almost, everyday) asking whether or not what they saw was a “sign from God.”
During Jesus’ time, many expected to see many signs that the Messiah had arrived, and in fact, Jesus’ birth was something out of the ordinary – born in Bethlehem in a manger; angels proclaiming the birth of the Savior to shepherds; Magi from the East who looked into the sky and saw a star, and followed it to Bethlehem.
In His ministry, Jesus also performed many miracles or signs (calming of the sea and walking on water; changing water into wine; the seven loaves of bread to feed 5,000; healing the blind; raising the dead; etc., etc…), but many still did not want to believe He was the Messiah sent by God the Father to suffer and die on the cross.
The greatest sign that Jesus did was for Him to rise from the tomb three days after His crucifixion, which showed His power to conquer death and to give everlasting life to all who believed in Him.
The final great sign would be His return in glory at the end of time where everyone would recognize Him as the Messiah.
We can be blinded by things or struggles in our lives that can keep us from seeing the many signs that Our Lord is with us. Even though there may be “things” or “struggles,” Christ knows how frail we are, and will give us the graces to walk in holiness, but we must always seek God and His Kingdom!
Advent reminds us that we are on a pilgrimage who long for God and His Kingdom, waiting for Christ to come again! May we not let our struggles or shortcomings be in the way of our faith and let this Advent be a season for us to change our hearts to be more like Christ’s, so we can be ready for His Second Coming!
z Pray for Pope Francis and those who lead the church, especially Bishop Brennan, who will be installed as Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn this week

1ST SUNDAY OF ADVENT, NOVEMBER 28, 2021 Real Presence, Real Future reflections: A New Year, New Directions
Mary Thompson, St. Matthew Gahanna Parishioner & RPRF Commission Member
The new liturgical year begins today, the annual cycle of seasons – Advent, anticipating the coming of the Messiah; Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Ordinary Time, commemorating Jesus’ life, death, and Resurrection; and the year ending with Christ, King of the Universe. As the Columbus Diocese moves forward in determining how to increase the presence of Christ and His Church through the Real Presence, Real Future initiative, let us remember the direction and hope proclaimed in today’s Communion Prayer: “May these mysteries, O Lord, in which we have participated, profit us, for even now, as we walk amid passing things, You teach us by them to love the things of heaven and hold fast to what endures.” For more about the life of faith and discipleship in the Diocese of Columbus, visit www. RealPresenceRealFuture.org.
ADULT FAITH FORMATION WINTER SERIES ON SPIRITUAL WARFARE BEGINNING IN THE NEW YEAR
We are launching our Winter series on Spiritual Warfare after the Holidays Break. Watch for it! In the meantime, consider this fun fact about angels: angels always appear young even though they are extremely old. Gabriel, who announced the Christ child to Mary, had several hundred years prior appeared to the prophet Daniel! For a preview of our series on Spiritual Warfare, take a listen to this week’s Unsettled Mind Podcast, “Are Demons Real?”

I DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO, 28 DE NOVIEMBRE, 2021 Reflexiones Presencia Real, Futuro Real:
RealPresenceRealFuture.org.
NO OLVID ...
