The most important cities in our country

It is the cradle of the ancient culture. It is the most populous and the biggest city in Italy.

Rome

An important witness of its ancient magnificence is the Coliseum .

There are a lot of attractions in Rome.

Milan and its attractions

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is full of elegant shops.

The Cathedral, in gothic style, is the symbol of Milan with its golden statue La Madonnina.

The Teatro alla Scala is another important symbol of Milan. It was founded by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. The building is an imposing Neo-Classical structure. La Scala was inaugurated in 1778.

Florence

Itis considered one of the most beautiful cities in Italy as well as in the world.Located in the heart of Tuscany, it was the cradle of Renaissance. It is overcrowded by tourists all year around.

Some works of the Renaissance:

The Dom. It was begun in 1296 and completed by Brunelleschi in 1436.

Michelangelos David, created between 1501 and 1504, is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture

Venice

It is worldwide famous for its originality: little stripes of land surrounded by water and connected by bridges:The Bridge of SighsRialto Bridge

Turin

It is a city of business and a cultural centre in northern Italy. It is the capital of the Piedmont region.It is crossed by the river Po and surrounded by the Alps. The city has a rich culture and history. One of the most important tourist attractions is the Royal Palace of Turin. Turin has been Italy's first capital city in 1861 because here there was the House of Savoy, Italy's royal family.

Turin is also the seat of the football teams Juventus F.C. and Torino F.C. and the headquarters of automobile manufacturers Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo.

Verona

It is one of Italy's most popular travel cities. It is located between Milan and Venice. It is known as the city of Romeo and Juliet.

Bologna

Bologna is an old university city and sometimes it is called "Bologna the learned", that refers to the presence of the oldest university in Europe, founded in 1088 AD. It has beautiful squares, fine historic buildings, and an interesting medieval center.

Naples

It is the capital of the region of Campania. It is known for its rich history, art, culture, architecture, music, and gastronomy.

The Castel Nuovo is a historical palace in Naples, and dates back to 1279. It is often called Maschio Angioino .

Palermo

Palermo is the capital of Sicily and its largest city. The city was founded by the Phoenicians. From 1130 to 1816 it became the capital of the Kingdom of Sicily. Palermo was one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean. There are a lot of monuments of the ancient Greek culture.There is also a famous volcano: Etna.
