The Most Holy Trinity 3 May 27, 2018
Even though the Easter season has drawn to a close, today’s feast basks in the glow of Easter’s twilight. To believe that we are made in the image and likeness of God, a God whose inner life is described in terms of community, is to recognize that we are in a relationship with one another. In the language of the liturgy, we do not each stand alone before God, but constantly affirm this truth in the very words of our prayers. “We believe, we offer, we ask you,” or “have mercy on us, hear us, listen to our prayer,” and in preparation for communion, we pray the perfect prayer to “Our Father.”
To be baptized is to enter into a community of faith. Nowhere is this sense of community more focused than at Sunday Mass. We respond to the love of the Father by being together in Christ, embraced by the Spirit, for the sake of the world. Today’s feast is impossible to fully grasp. Yet, as the scripture readings today explore, the Trinity is not a concept traced like a triangle on a blackboard. It is the air we breathe, the sign we trace on our bodies as a pledge and promise of God’s eternal love. The Trinity is God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

God bless you, Father Gerlach

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Are you thinking about becoming Catholic? Consider Kim’s reflection on her experience: “Becoming Catholic was an amazing experience because now I feel complete when I attend mass and receive the Body of Christ. At first, I expected that the
weekly classes would be mostly lecture and then after attending my first session … with the others I realized that it was fully interactive, we have the opportunity to ask questions, challenge each other and reflect on various readings from the bible.” If you or someone you know would like to explore what it means to be Catholic, please plan to join us on Wednesday evening, June 13th, 7:00 pm, in The Welcome Center located to the left just inside the main doors of Church. For further information please contact Sr. Mary Beth Coyle at the rectory office.
Divorce Support: Please join us in The Welcome Center on Wednesday evening, June 6th, 7pm. Our focus is to move forward through anger and hostility to peace of heart. All who are victims of divorce are welcome to join us.
Feast of the Week … Saturday, May 26th, the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Philip Neri, the patron saint of Rome, US Special Forces, humor and joy and his feast day is celebrated on May 26. Philip
lived in the Sixteenth Century. Growing up he was a good-natured son and sibling. His parents desired for him to follow in the family business but God had other plans. Philip felt a close affinity to God. He spent several years as a hermit until his confessor persuaded him to be ordained as a priest. He was always a joyful person who welcomed people to share their sorrows and concerns. Philip was also the founder of the Oratorian Fathers. For a more complete story of his life please refer to http://catholicsaints.info.

Saints Simon and Jude School News!! The week began with another fabulous fine arts experience at SSJ, our Spring Concert. Students in our chorus, concert choir, and instrumental music program performed in the afternoon for students and in the evening for parents and guests. The talent of our students continues to amaze me. Special thanks to Miss Capaldi and Mr. Banks for all their hard work throughout the school year. On Thursday evening, SSJ was well represented by 22, 4th and 5th grade students at the Chester County Reading Olympics. This countywide event is designed to inspire students to read for pleasure and learn the value of teamwork at the same time. Students formed teams to read 45 books to prepare for the culminating event. Special thanks to our teacher moderators, Mrs. Farrell and Mrs. Triglia. Offering this wonderful enrichment opportunity for our students wouldn’t be possible without your dedication. Our week concluded with Spirit Day, a special SSJ tradition where students spent the morning outside going through fun activity stations. At the end of the morning, everyone gathered in the gym for the much anticipated 8th graders versus teachers volleyball game. Special thanks to our parent volunteers and P.E. teacher, Mrs. Fasano, who planned this wonderful day.
Blessings, Sister Regina Elinich, IHM
