The Mortal Instruments

Synopsis: When, Jaces and Sebastians bond was destroyed, Jace Lightwood felt lie a part

of him was missing! "e was lie an empty shell! "e was changed! Will his friends bring his

old self bac# $r will Jace Lightwood remain only a memory#

'fter the bond between Jace and Sebastian was broen, there were se(eral horrible days for

Jace Lightwood! "e was )uestioned about Sebastians plans and about the "ea(enly *ire and

pretty much e(erything! +ut he ne(er answered any of those )uestions! "e ust sat in his bed,

his had rested on his nees ust listening to different members of the %oncla(e or to the Silent

+rothers! Since his return, he didnt say a word! -ot e(en to %lary!

's %lary entered the Institute, a new wa(e of sadness embraced her! She wanted to go and

tal to Jace, to mae feel better, but it was pointless! It was lie he wasnt listening to

anything, anyone! Where was the boy that she lo(ed so much#

.%lary, youre here early/, Isabelle said, appearing in the hallway!

.0eah, I couldnt sleep or anything with1 this situation!/

' sad smile crossed Isabelles face! They(e all been in pain since Jace was bac, but he was

not Jace!

.The Silent +rothers stayed with him all night and tried to mae him tal, but nothing! They

said that maybe the "ea(enly *ire destroyed his soul!/

Isabelles (oice was filled with so much pain! Jace was lie a brother to her and 'lec and she

didnt want to lose him too!

.-o, no! This cant be possible! Jace is more powerful than that!/

.%lary, maybe theyre right! -o one nows the powers of the "ea(enly *ire! Maybe its too

much e(en for Jace1/

%lary was filled with anger! -ot towards Isabelle, e(en though she was (ery wrong! She

couldnt understand how the "ea(enly *ire sa(ed Jace but stole his soul! It was impossible!

Jace was more powerful than that and she new it! Maybe in time e(erything will change!

'fter all, he had been through a lot!

.Im going to see him,/ she told Isabelle, going towards the stairs!

When %lary entered Jaces neat room, she saw the Silent +rothers staying near a boy who

seemed to be (ery young! "is golden hair co(ered most of his face and she could see only

those beautiful eyes of him! "e was sitting in a corner of the bed lie he was trying to get

away from the +rothers! Lie he was afraid of them!

%lary saw the +rothers lea(e the room wordlessly! 2robably they were as hopeless as them!

-o one new what was wrong with Jace!

."ow are you feeling#/

She tried to put a hand on his bandaged arm, but he retreated his lie she was a demon! %lary

tried to eep her composure and sighed!

.Jace, I now what you(e been through but you cant eep going on lie this! We need you

so much right now! 'le3 needs you! I need you!/

-o reaction! -othing!

.4o you e(en now that 'le3 is sic# "es been lie this for the last few days! "e said that

the 2arabatai bond hurts him!/

-ot e(en mentioning his 2arabatai changed something in Jace!

Suddenly, the door hit the wall and 'lec busted in, followed by Isabelle! "e didnt e(enobser(ed %lary, lie he was dreaming! "e umped on the bed with all his force and faced Jace!

%lary looed at Isabelle, but she was as clueless as her! 'lec has been really sic for the last

past days! "e couldnt e(en get out of bed or spea too much! -ow he was waling lie

nothing happened!

Maryse entered the room, followed by the Silent +rothers!

.Jace,/ it was only a whisper coming from 'lec!

'lec was facing Jace, with his hands on his 2arabatais nees! Their eyes loced and it was

for the first time Jace really looed at someone! Then something really weird happened!

Jaces whole body started to lighten up, lie it was fire surrounding him and that light

en(eloped the two boys! 'nd then Jace smiled and 'lec too his hands!

.Whats going on#/ %lary whispered!

.I ha(ent seen anything lie this! I only heard by stories lie this! Its the parabatai lin!There was another Shadowhunter, long time ago, who had the "ea(enly *ire inside him! The

*ire is (ery powerful and destroyed the Shadowhunter, but is belie(ed that the parabatai

bound maes it bearable,/ Maryse e3plained!

.0ou mean1 They share that power through their bond#/

%lary mo(ed her eyes again towards 'lec and Jace! They hadnt mo(ed and they were looing

at each other, lie they were taling! Then, the golden light retreated bac in Jace, maing him

close his eyes and 'lec turned bac to them!

."e needs to rest a little bit! Ill be in the library in fi(e!/ 'lec announced!

's she e3ited the room, %lary saw 'lec maing Jace more comfortable on the bed!

.I cant belie(e that their bond is so powerful,/ she whispered to Isabelle!

.0eah, its pretty ama5ing, but we dont now what the "ea(enly *ire does to them! It scares

me that all that power can destroy them both!/

%lary ust nodded! She new that it was painful for Isabelle to see Jace lie this, but it was

e(en worse to see 'lec ending up ust lie Jace!

*i(e minutes later, 'lec entered the library where pretty much e(eryone was waiting fromhim! She smiled to his sister, trying to reassure her and then he too a sit on one of the old

6ictorian chairs!

Tell us what happened, +rother 7achariah said, lifting his head from the meditati(e stance!

The hood was still co(ering his whole face and %lary wondered how his face looed lie once

more!

.I could1 tal to Jace! I mean, I could hear his thoughts or something lie that! "e told me

that the "ea(enly *ire was burning his insides, that he couldnt control it! 'nd he also told me

that Sebastian is coming!/

'll eyes were on him now! 8(eryone was shoced!

.What# *or what is Sebastian coming#/ Maryse in)uired! She always feared Sebastian, lie

e(eryone in the room!

.*or Jace!/ 'lec e3plained! .Somehow he nows how he can control the *ire! 'nd the

"ea(enly *ire is the only thing that could ill Sebastian!/

.So we must find out how can Jace learn to control it!/ Isabelle said, looing at her brother!

.+asically, yes! +ut Jaces not taling to us, so what can we do#/ Maryses (oice was filled

with pain as she watched the sy from the window!

."e told me its too much pain! "e can remember e(erything he did while he was with

Sebastian! "e also told me that1/ 'lec hesitated for a moment, trying to say those painful

words! .We should ill him before Sebastian comes1/

8(eryone was petrified! %lary couldnt belie(e what she heard, as well as the others! 8(en the

Silent +rothers looed surprised! She had ust sa(ed Jace from death and now they were

supposed to ill him!

-o! There had to be another way!

The ne3t few days, the Institute was full of people trying to help Jace! Some said it was 2TS4

or other things caused by the latest e(ents in the boys life! +ut, despite all that, 'lec was the

only one who could fully reach Jace! It was lie the boy could communicate with Jace through

thoughts!

8(eryone could see that Jace himself was more rela3ed! "e wasnt taling, but he was mo(ing

and playing with the cat! Those were good signs, for sure and e(eryone hoped that they wouldget better!

%lary spent all her time at the Institute, trying to help! The Silent +rothers, as well as the

doctors, thought that Jace would be better soon if his friends taled to him! So she spent all

her time taling to Jace, who was lie a ghost! "e was ust sitting and maybe listening to her!

$ne e(ening, when Isabelle and 'lec were training, she decided to tae Jace to the garden

where they first issed! It wasnt hard to con(ince him because he used to follow her or 'lec

almost e(ery time! When they entered the garden, %lary heard a sigh coming from Jace it

was the first thing that came from his mouth since they found him last wee!

.This garden is so beautiful! I now that you lied coming here and thining and I understand

why! It calms you so much,/ she started taling, looing at the flowers! .I now that this

whole situation is crappy as hell because I hated the time we spent apart and I also hated what

Sebastian did to you, but I now that you are stronger, Jace Lightwood!/

%lary turned to face Jace, who was looing straight at her! Then suddenly Jace turned bac

and too a stic from the ground and started writing something in the soil!

%lary understood what Jace was meaning! The "ea(enly *ire was too strong and he couldnt

contain it, he couldnt let his concentration disappear! So Jace wanted her to create a rune that

could mae the "ea(enly *ire easier to contain! +ut one )uestion was bothering %lary, .+ut

why dont you write instead of taling#/

;Too many )uestions will come, Jace wrote and looed at her!

.Ill try then,/ %lary said and smiled! She was so happy to now that Jace wasnt lost

somewhere and that he was still inside!

'lec stood in the middle of the training room with his arch in his right hand and Isabelle was

right beside him! "e hated the fact that he couldnt tal to Jace and that he could hear some of

his thoughts! +ut it was better than nothing! 'll that Jace had told him was that the "ea(enly

*ire was (ery strong and that they needed to ill him if Sebastian came too soon!

.Maybe I should tal to Magnus about Jace,/ 'lec suggested! "e also wanted an e3cuse to see

the warloc because with all the agitation at the Institute he could hardly go out!

.'nd as him what# If he can create a spell which can cure 2TS4#/ Isabelle was sarcastic

and 'lec sensed it, but he new that she was as tired as all of them! They hadnt rested enough

in more than a wee, trying to find a way to help Jace!

.Jesus, Isabelle, dont be so mean! I dont thin that Jace has 2TS4 anyway!/

.Why# "e told you that through your weird bond#/

.-o! 'nd I(e searched a little bit and found out that the parabatai bond becomes stronger

thans to the "ea(enly *ire! Long time ago, e(ery shadowhunter used to ha(e a little part of

the "ea(enly *ire inside him, which used to be acti(ated once the parabatai bond was made!

Thats why they say that the parabatai bond is the strongest one e(er!/

.So why there is no "ea(enly *ire in us anymore#/

.+ecause there were people who used that power in bad ways and it was decided to strip all

Shadowhunters of the "ea(enly *ire for safety reasons!/

.'nd now all of it is in Jace and thats why you can communicate through thoughts, right#/

.0eah,/ 'lec said looing at Isabelle!

.+ut it is too strong for Jace and he doesnt tal because he wants to eep the powers at bay!/

.I also thin that this is what hes trying to do! I read that once a parabatai bond was created in

that period, the "ea(enly *ire flew from one to another!/

.So we must find a way to mae the "ea(enly *ire pass between him and you through your

bond!/ Isabelle started to feel better! Maybe they could resol(e all that mess!

.I thin that maybe Magnus can help us with that!/

.$r %lary can design a rune,/ Isabelle suggested! She new that her brother wanted to see

Magnus so much so she said, .Ill go and tal to %lary and youll go to Magnus!/

*ire will mae Jace and I more powerful and who nows what theyll try to do!/
