The Monthly Herald
November 2015 FROM THE PASTOR…
November 1st is celebrated as All Saint’s Day. Early in the history of the
Christian Church this day was set aside as a day of remembrance,
giving God glory and thanksgiving for those who have died in the
faith and are now with the Lord in eternity. At St. Paul’s we
remember our loved ones who are now with our Lord by reciting the
names of those who have died during the past 12 months during our
worship services, this year on October 31 and November 1.
White is the liturgical color for All Saints, reflecting the righteousness and holiness
of Christ with which all who believe are dressed. In some traditions the term
“saint” is reserved for special persons in church history. But we understand that
anyone who places his or her faith in Jesus Christ is a saint, that is, one who has
been “made holy” through faith in Christ.
Halloween is a shortening of All Hallows Eve, or the Eve of All Saints.
In America, it’s long been a tradition to greet princesses, ghosts and superheroes
at the door with candy that evening. However, in addition wouldn’t it be a great
idea to drag out the photo album (or I-Pad) and remember family members who
are now celebrating the great wedding feast of the Lamb? Try it
as a family activity to reinforce the faith with your children and
grandchildren. It’s also a wonderful way to review family history,
heritage, and relationships. Finally, we give thanks to God for our
faith, a faith that has transformed us from sinners into saints.
Alleluia!
Blessings, Pastor Stanton

Men’s Bible Breakfast
Martin Luther: The Man
For the months of November through January, we will be
taking a look at the life of the man whom God used to
raise the Gospel again to the forefront in the Holy
Christian Church. Martin Luther had an interesting life
story, and God was with him through it all. Luther had
great spiritual struggles, but found peace in the cross of
Christ, the sacrifice of his loving Savior that claimed him,
cleansed him, and called him to be one of God’s children.
In November we will meet on November 14 & 28.
We meet shortly before 7am; we pray, have breakfast and
then get into the study. All men are welcome; why not
invite a friend!

Sharing God’s Bounty
November
Showing our Gratitude
God gives us his love, goodness, and mercy daily. He has given us victory over sin and death
through his Son. Christ has given us the blessings of forgiveness, justification, a new life, and an
eternal hope. Because of his bountiful blessings, we should be compelled to show our gratitude. Do
we? Could we, at times, be taking all that we receive for granted?
If Christ were to come into our homes in physical form, certainly we would express our thanks in
tangible ways. We would make him comfortable, run errands for him, offer our best food, and give
him our time and attention. However, we don’t have that opportunity, so we show our gratitude in
different ways.
One way that we express our gratitude is to give thanks throughout the day in our prayers and
thoughts. When we see life and its blessings as gifts, we are prepared to offer our thanks. Our
thanksgiving is expressed when we use the faith God has given us to live in obedience to his Word.
God hears and sees our gratitude through the lives we live. When we generously share our time and
money with others in Christian love, we show our thanksgiving for our gifts. Our giving reflects Christ’s
love in us. We extend our thanks to our heavenly Father when we give him praise and glory in weekly
worship and privately throughout each day.
As stewards, we find that our gratitude to God opens our hearts to receive more of God’s love,
which enables us to be more faithful with our time, talents, and treasures. In response to God’s love
and grace, we give ourselves and our resources. When we acknowledge God as the creator and owner
of all, we will serve the Lord faithfully out of gratitude for all his gifts to us. Our gratefulness to God
will enable us to give thanks even during bad times because God promises to comfort and sustain us
in all things.
Blessings during this Thanksgiving season!
Regardless of whether you tithe or use some other method of measure, the return
you make to God should come from the "first fruits" of your labor. This means that
your return to God comes first, before paying all your other bills.
If we give simply from what we have left over after all our needs are met, it is not
really sacrificial. If there is no pain in our giving, then we can be sure that we are not
giving enough.

School News
From the Principal
Greetings to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In the month of November we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a time to
reflect on the many blessings we have received over the past year. It
is too bad that many people take those blessings for granted, and do
not thank God on a daily basis for all that He gives to support our body
and life. Not only on an individual basis do we have reason to be
thankful, but we have so much to be thankful for at St. Paul's Lutheran
School. The wonderful opportunity to minister to the young people on a daily basis
is truly a joy and a privilege. The outstanding students and parents make the
teaching and the sharing of the Gospel message a delight.
Take time today and everyday to give all thanks and praise, honor and glory to God
our Father for all that He did, does, and will do for us in this life and in the life to
come.
One of the historic events at St. Paul's is our annual Girls
Basketball Tournament. This year, it is on November 20th and
21st. Please come out and support our school, our students, and
our athletic program. We would love to have you here rooting on
our Lady Panthers!

My, How Time Flies! Only 4 months until we leave for Guatemala.
Our team has grown, welcoming Lou Ann Zimmel to our ranks. We continue to meet regularly,
refining our lesson plans and developing crafts to help “drive home” the lesson of the Prodigal
Son. We’ve gotten pretty good at reading/speaking Nehemiah 9:17 in Spanish; the next step
will be the challenge of memorizing it!
We invite you to join us for dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings at 2950 S. 108 St. on Wednesday,
November 11. Vouchers will be in your mailboxes and in the narthex. This dinner marks the
end of our formal fund-raising for the Guatemala trip and we thank you for your support of
dinners, sales, and BBQ.
Current airline prices have significantly raised our costs, so we continue to welcome your
contributions. Reminder: If you wish to send Christmas letters/cards to sponsored Guatemalan
children, they must be received in Arizona by November 9.
Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away; here are a few of the things we are thankful for:
o The opportunity to serve our Lord in Guatemala
o The faith and friendship of the Guatemalan people who teach us
o Our new team rookie, Lou Ann Zimmel
o The opportunity to participate in the LWML Zone Rally, and share the Guatemalan
experience -The in-kind donations of health and hygiene items from the LWML ladies
o Participating in the Mission U seminar and learning new ways to witness
o The ongoing support of our mission trip by the St. Paul’s family, with contributions and
participation in our fundraising efforts.
o In-kind donations of school supplies for the Guatemalan kids
o Your prayers for the success and safety of our mission.
Thanks and blessings to you all! Your Guatemala Team
