Snowflake Powwow

The countdown has begun! We are less than a month away from our

annual Snowflake Powwow!! And its going to be the biggest one in the

history of the Mitigwa Lodge!

Hosted by Alex Edel and Josh Young, this year’s event will be held at

Camp Dodge in Johnston. Registration will begin Friday night at 5:30 and

will go through Saturday morning.

You shouldn’t run out of fun things to do during the weekend! There will

be multiple activities going on such as Ceremony team competitions,

learning the basics of making bonnets, cribbage tournaments, creating

your outfitting, discovering the history of the Mitigwa Lodge and OA,

and attending the Powwow Saturday with the Mitigwa Dance team per-

forming for the Lodge!

A little note on outfitting:

Sandy Townsend and a few other people will be sewing outfitting this

year. Outfitting will be available in the morning. It will be a first come

first serve basis. Aprons will be $5 and pants will be $10. If you have ma-

terials you are more than welcome to bring them! Otherwise material

will be available to you.

This exciting event will end Sunday morning when clean-up is finished.

Lodge Chief Report

Since our last LECM our Lodge

officer team has met a total of

3 times at various locations to

discuss upcoming events for

the Lodge. Congratulations to

the entire Lodge for receiving

gold for our Lodge JTE. We

will be having a very im-

portant LECM coming up so all

chapter chiefs must attend the

LECM at Snowflake Powwow.

What a great Winter Banquet! All

chapters qualified for JTE levels! Past

lodge adviser Mike Weber was

skyped in to talk to all of us! I hope

everyone had enough to eat! Con-

gratulations to all the Jim Goodding

award winners, those who received

the Arrowman of Achievement and

the Founder’s Award as well as the

James E. West award honorees. All

of you put extra time and effort into

your lodge and chapters and demon-

strate the spirit of cheerful service. I

am looking forward to seeing all of

you at Snowflake Pow Wow next

month.

Communications Report

Hey everybody! I hope everybody likes the

first issue of the Mitigwa Chief that is pub-

lished online for the first time ever!!!

At Snowflake Powwow each Chapter Chief

will be given a quick Communications mid-

term questionnaire about how communi-

cations is going so far and what could be

improved on. Also just a reminder that if

you want your chapter to receive gold in

the JTE communications requirements,

your communications officer must prepare

a report for the upcoming LECM and give it

then, or sign their name on it and have

your chief read it.

The Lodge History book is nearly complet-

ed!! About 5% left before its going to get

published. Thanks for everyone’s hard

work and see you at Snowflake Powwow!!

E&P Report

We just finished up our E&P

training at Winter Banquet! We

are currently working on getting

elections packets out to all E&P

officers before Snowflake Pow-

wow. We will be having some

informational E&P training ses-

sions at Snowflake Powwow

which I would like to see every-

body there. Keep working hard

out there!

Membership Report

Thanks to all that filled in for me at Winter Banquet. I was on a school trip and I was not able to attend. Looking ahead I am look-ing for Nimats for Spring Conclave if you are interested in becoming a Nimat please let me know when you arrive at Snowflake Powwow and I can write your name down. I will be glad to join you all at Snow-flake in February.

Ceremonies Report

The Lodge Brotherhood team has

more practices scheduled and com-

ing up soon. We will make sure to

send out dates for that. We plan on

performing a preview of the new

Brotherhood ceremony at Snow-

flake Powwow!

The ceremonies seminar is still

scheduled however for January

31st at Bear Creek from 9-4. I

would like ceremonies officers to

confirm that you and your ceremo-

ny team will be in attendance. Oth-

erwise good job everybody and

keep up the good work!

The 2014 Winter Banquet was held at the Fred Maytag Scout

Center on Saturday, January 3. There was a record number of

249 Arrowmen and families in attendance! Everybody was seat-

ed around 6:00 and were able to start the evenings entertain-

ment around 6:30.

The evening started off with the 2014 Lodge officers giving their

year in review speeches. Which all Lodge officers had a very suc-

cessful term and did an outstanding job for the Lodge!

Next came the introduction of the new Ordeal and Brotherhood

members. 254 new Ordeal members joined the Lodge, and 138

new Brotherhood members. Congratulations to those Arrowmen

and we strive for you to keep doing your service to the Lodge!

After the recognitions, we preceded on to James E. West awards.

The honorees of these awards were: Josh Young and John

Gulbranson.

After presenting the First Year award for all Arrowmen, Austin

Pauling and Andy Deboard recognized the brand new Vigil Honor

members. These new honorees included:

Tyler Barrett, Garret Davies, Curtis Harryman, Trevor Johnson,

Troy Kilzer, Joe Kramer, Robert Kramer, Renee Maloney, Anderw

Miller, Michael Miller, Vincent Morrissey, Christian Roberts, Tra-

cy Sadler, Rory Taylor, Stephen Townsend, Mitchell Vose, Samuel

Yeager, Devon York, Timothy York, and Ryan Young.

Following the Vigil Honor recognition, Garret Davies presented

Broken Arrow with the Chapter of the Year Award. The first time

in 15 years that Broken Arrow has been given the award.

The Arrowman of Achievement had 4 well deserving recipients

this year. These Arrowmen were: Lynn Kramer, Joe Kramer, Gar-

ret Davies and Don Wallace.

And the last award of the night, the Founders’ Award, was pre-

sented to Lee Pauling, Nick Wallace and Ray Knapp.

The night ended with the induction of the new Lodge Officers

and the Year in Review slideshow. This year’s Winter Banquet

was a huge turnout and we thank everybody for attending!

4. Lodge Officer Reports:

Chief- Since our last LECM, our officer team has met twice for meetings. I think we’re off to a

great start. JTE is finished and the Lodge received gold.

Ceremonies- We have the Brotherhood Ceremony team put together and practices arranged.

The Ceremony Seminar is scheduled January 31st at Bear Creek Lodge from 9-4. All we

need are the people.

E&P- Just finished E&P training. Working on getting elections packets out to all E&P officers

before Snowflake Powwow.

Membership- No officer present

Communications- Communications is going well, finishing up an electronic form of Mitigwa

Chief, will give details and instructions about it at next LECM. Lodge history project is 90%

done, just finishing up details. Have printed book to look at.

7. Old Business: None 8. New Business Calendar update

Garret, Dana, and Cortney met to talk about Cub Scout fun day. Because of many events in October, would like to move LLDC to November 7th.

Camp Chief approval Garret asked LECM if they would approve of him becoming Camp Chief at

the upcoming summer camp. Motioned by Hawkeye, second by Broken Arrow Motion carries

Event Patch Would be ready with event patch by Snowflake Powwow.

Winter Banquet Directly after LECM, would like everyone to leave dining hall so set up can continue. Don’t have to take down anything.

Snowflake Powwow update Alex- Snowflake is February 20-22. Josh Young and Alex Edel are almost done

getting everything finalized. Big variety of activities, including First Class to Ea-gle program.

Section Conclave Taylor- Wanting to do training for Brotherhood on how to wear uniform properly.

Brainstorming on activities. Garret- Bo Qui was working on transportation. But only thing been able to find is a

15 passenger van, $100 a day, unlimited mileage. School busses don’t want to help.

Boyd Largent is investigating what other transportation might be available. Railroad camporee

Hosted by Broken Arrow, council event. Ask for Lodge support. Not for sure what they are wanting, but have meeting coming up soon to find out. Possibly help-ing run registration, first aid, security, park trailers, cars. Should have more in-formation by Snowflake. May 8-10 in Boone.

Arrow Tour July 18th here at the Scout Center. Looking to celebrate 100th anniversary, possibly

have a booth to talk about history. Asking for people from Lodge to help staff and provide items. Mitigwa Lodge will be service corps for entire event.

Trademark logos John- Attended a meeting about branding. Going to one National logo, one image

representing OA. Already following 80%-90% of the information. Have any questions please ask John.

From the Chapters themselves!!

Tamaha chapter report:

We had our chapter work weekend in November. After the workday we went to Buffalo Wild Wings, which

was fun. We had a business meeting and recognized former officers in November. In January, Austin is giv-

ing training to chapter officers. Looking forward to great year.

Broken Arrow chapter report

We gave our Chapter report for JTE on November 14 to our roundtable and to our chapter. We were able

to complete 2 workdays before 2014 ended, one of them was the Lodge workday that we hosted at Swede

Point park. We had our December meeting at Perfect Games in Ames. So far everything is going good and

we are preparing our ceremonies team.

Golden Eagle chapter report

We held a Brotherhood ceremony in September. We were also able to help serve breakfast at Cub Scout Fun

Day.

From the Chapter themselves!!!

Raccoon River Valley chapter report

We have had 3 chapter meetings since the LECM at Fall Fellowship. We had a chapter workday in No-

vember at Mitigwa where we worked with Courtney and the ranger staff. We are planning meetings

ahead for our E&P crew. And we are getting ready for Snowflake Powwow.

Hawkeye chapter report

We have had a great couple months. Our Chapter had our Christmas party in December where we shared gifts

and spent time together. We were able to have both workdays, one that was in Grinnell. We are currently

getting ready for Snowflake Powwow and getting ready for the ceremony teams seminar.

Bo Qui chapter report

We went over old business at our last chapter meeting. At our December meeting we had a Christmas party.

We had pizza, pop, and a gift exchange. We are currently having people go around and get another E&P

officer, our current officer is stepping down so we are looking for Arrowmen to help out. We had people go

help with Cub Scout Fun Day.

li and Joe Kramer are looking for help with Elango-

mats and Nimats! Please contact them if you are in-

terested!

Trail Crew, Camp Mitigwa. More information

ArrowTour, Fred Maytag Scout Center. This

will be one of the biggest events of the year and we

need all hands on deck! More information to come

out soon.

August 3-8

NOAC, Michigan State University. More infor-

mation to be coming out soon. Contingent Full.
