The metal industry in Galicia is involved ina wide range of activities, incorporatingthe latest technological advancements. Itplays an important role in production, exportation and employment, and is afaithful reflection of the social andeconomic development of the country.

The development of the metal industryhas been achieved through the growthof mayor companies which competesuccessfully in the most demanding ofglobal markets: these include theautomobile, naval, and air generatorindustries, along with machinery, logistics, maintenance and mobilityindustries. In fact Galicia is one of themost important automobile productioncenters in Spain, and is also a leader inshipbuilding on a national level.

The metal industry is involved inmany other activities, which, directly orindirectly, reinforces its advancementand development. This industry providesactivities that are key to construction, andit is directly linked to machinery andcapital goods, transportation equipment, supplies for other activities includingsystems of plant production maintenance

and logistics, and even mobilityin the area medicine and healthcare.

In recent years, equipment has beendeveloped to respond to the challengespresented by mobility, which is a growingdemand in our society. The mainproducts involved are: lifts, elevatingplatforms, cranes, specialized vehiclesand accessories.

The metal industry is also nurturedby advanced engineering services, research and development, normalization, homologation and certification, all ofwhich facilitate the evolution ofindustries in which automation isincreasingly needed to be competitive. In the shipbuilding industry, innovativeactivities are making possible thedevelopment of the latest generation ofships and offshore platforms. In theautomobile industry, their application ismost frequently related to robotics, andthe development of modern innovativemethods such as laser, for specificproduction activities.

Test centers along with normalization, homologation, and certification centershelp in achieving quality control inmaterials, in developing innovation andin standard testing which are continuallybecoming more dynamic and efficient.

In the field of productengineering, advancesare being madein design,

in areas such asprototyping and also related to theautomation processes. Examples of theseinnovation include pressure injectionin metals and plastic deformationprocesses of metals. In the area ofprototypes, progress has been made inunderstanding the characteristics andbehavior of metallurgic products beforethey are being placed on the market.

The metal industry is involved inenvironmental concerns. It is increasinglyaware of the need to create anddevelop clean, low cost energy efficienttechnologies. Sustainable growth andenvironmental protection are importantfactors on all levels of the industry. Energyefficiency is also an important factor.

It is true that the metal industry nurturesresources and equipment in a widevariety of activities through thedevelopment of new materials andtechnical advances. In Galicia it is hasbecome a state of the art industryachieving the highest of standards thatrespond to the needs of modern society.

EXPERIENCE AND ADDED MARKET VALUE

In Galicia, companies related tometallurgy and fabrication of systems ofmetal components are highly competitiveto contribute in equipment development, advanced supplies, machinery, metalstructures, parts, and assembledstructures. On the whole this represents awide range of products and services thatcan play an important part in even themost demanding projects both for theirefficiency and guarantees of quality.

The metal industry stands out for itsdevelopment of innovative technologies, its excellent quality and its agile responseto the most exigent necessities inproducing parts, subsystems andsystems, always based on advancedengineering techniques that respect theenvironment. These capacities attractrelated industries to Galicia where theindustrial complex as a whole hasreached a highly competitive and qualityoriented level in the international market.

The metal industry in Galicia isinternationally consolidated. It not onlyexports its products to variousdestinations, but is represented byaffiliates all over the world. Asia (mainlyChina), Europe, America, and Africa, and

it is involved in the mostdynamic markets.

The development of production plants inforeign countries is the result of a series ofstrategic actions aimed to giving ourclients what they want demonstratingtheir own capacities and dynamism.

International activities offer a wide varietyof products and services from cars toshipbuilding, including heavy equipment,machinery-logistics-maintenance andengineering.

Technical leadership and high qualityproduction standards await any industrythat needs metallurgical support inGalicia. There exists here an importantnetwork of parts suppliers, includingsubsystem and system levels that alongwith a strong foundation based in humancapacities and accredited experience increative values, allows for an excellentsupport system for even the mostdemanding of requirements.

Thanks to tradition and consolidation, themetal industry in Galicia has created a

structure that hasbecome an important supportnetwork on the institutional, scientificand social levels that has openedthe door for the development of the mostmodern and extensive multi-nationalbusiness projects.

A consolidated network ofcompanies and professionals.

Cutting edge technologicalinnovations.
