About the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America: The ELCA is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with more than 3.7 million members in more than 9,300 congregations across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. Known as the church of "God's work. Our hands," the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians and service in the world. The ELCA's roots are in the writings of the German church reformer Martin Luther.

About the 500th anniversary of the Reformation

Martin Luther posted the Ninety-Five Theses in Wittenberg, Germany, on Oct. 31, 1517, and the resulting debate about Christian teaching and practice led to changes that have shaped the course of Western Christianity for almost 500 years. The Reformation offers to Christians everywhere a liberating way of lis-tening to and sharing the word of God. It teaches that Christ's life flows through faith into a life of service to the neighbor and offers the promise of God's love that makes possible a life of "living, daring confidence in God's grace."

God’s Work Our Hands—Sept. 10

What an incredible day! Thank you for showing up in force to do God’s Work with our own hands on Sunday, September 10. We made a difference in the community putting together food bags for home-less families, thanking Loveland police officers, painting Monroe’s playground and sending blank holiday cards to military personnel. Think about all the lives that will be touched by just a few hours of work! It was easy. It was fun! It was what God calls us to be about not just one day, but each day. God has our hands, our hearts, our words and our lives to demonstrate God’s radical love and grace for the healing of the world. Thank you for being God’s Hands!

Adult Bible Studies

I l read and study the catechism daily, yet I cannot master it as I wish, but must remain a child and a

pupil of the catechism, and I do it gladly.

~ Martin Luther in his preface to the Large Catechism

Sunday Adult Faith Formation This Fall! Small Catechism! Remember standing up on your confirmation day and being asked questions by the pastor in front of the whole congregation? Remem-ber memorizing all the explanations to the Ten Com-mandments? Remember “What does this mean?” Well, those days are gone. We don’t torture Confir-mation students. And it’s time for a fun refresher! This fall, Pastor Carlos Schneider and Courtney Steitz will be leading us through Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton has asked every congregation to study the Small Catechism in this year of commemorating the 500th Reformation. At the 9:40AM Faith Formation time we will be looking at the 10 Commandments through October 22. Reformation Day is October 29 and we have special activities planned for that day. Then the first three Sundays in November we’ll study the Apostles’ Creed. Pastor Carlos will be teaching the Lord’s Prayer during the week on Tuesdays. Watch for that in the Parish Notes! It will be fun! It will be faith forming and good for your soul.

Bible Study on Wednesdays! The Thursday Bible study has moved days and time. We now meet on Wednesdays at 11:00AM rather than Thursdays at 9:30AM. This is a group that has fun! We laugh together and

discuss the Scripture lessons for the upcoming week-end. You don’t need to know them ahead of time or even understand what they’re saying! We discover it together. Perhaps this new day and time will work for you, so consider joining in! Pastor Ruth Ann
