I recently read a newspaper article discussing how parenting has transformed since the early 1900’s. Parents
spend considerably less time with their children than in previous years due to work and other commitments.
The expert quoted in this article stated, “Parents today shouldn't feel so guilty for not spending as much time
with their kids. After all, it’s really about quality time and not quantity time.” In my mind I kept turning over
and over this statement: “it’s really about quality time and not quantity time.” Personally, I feel this view is
oversimplified and flawed. Consider some of the typical “quality” moments between a parent and a child:
seeing her first steps or hearing his first words; sharing a private joke; personal conversations during the
teenage years that require trust. How can a parent expect to see and hear all the amazing “firsts” of his child if
he only spends a few strategically allotted minutes with him each day? How can a parent have enough
common experiences with his child to develop private jokes or the necessary relationship for personal
conversations if he only plans for a minimal amount of “quality” contact each day?
In most cases it takes time to get to know someone which is why we talk about “building” relationships like we
are constructing a house. Building a relationship, like building a house, is a process requiring time, effort, and
patience. The quality of time we spend together is dependent on the quantity of time we spend together.
Quality time is a product of quantity; unless you put a number of quantity hours into your relationship with
your children you will never have the quality time all parents covet and cherish.
This principle also applies to our relationship and fellowship with Christ. As a child, my family regularly
attended church; we gave a couple hours on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights, but the rest of the week
was mine. I lived the hours outside of church as I pleased rarely stopping to think about Christ or working to
build a closer fellowship with Him. Even after He revealed the joy that comes from an intimate closeness with
Him, I largely confined our relationship to designated “quiet times” in the mornings when I prayed and read
my Bible. Although I strove to live for Christ, I rarely communicated with Him throughout my day.
Is this really the biblical approach to intimacy and fellowship with God? Jesus seemed to be in constant
communication with the Father through public and private prayer. Paul instructed the Thessalonians to pray
continually and told Timothy “night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.” Prayer seems to be a
continual state of mind for Paul. Imagine how much richer our individual relationship with Christ would be if
we applied this mindset to our prayer lives.
We can’t simply turn God on and off; we can’t ignore Him and then expect to experience His nearness
whenever we feel the urge. All human relationships, including parenting, require love, care and attention.
They require quantity time if there is going to be any quality time. Our spiritual relationship with Christ is no
different; He is near, He is ready and He is waiting. He waits for our unending worship that comes from our
unending focus on Him. Seek Him, sit down with Him, take a walk with Him, continually focus on Him…
take your relationship with Christ deeper and develop an intimacy with Him that brings a daily joy we all long
to experience. Commit to quantity time with Christ and you will have the quality time you long for as a child
of the King.
For His Glory,
Brad

What A God We Have “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In His great mercy He has given to us new birth and a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ for the dead!” 1 Peter 1:3
Life has a way of ever so slowly wearing us down and making us feel defeated and overwhelmed.
But those who hope and trust in the Lord can hope and rise above all that life sends their way.
How can we survive those joy robbing, soul crushing, seemingly hopeless ordeals that come to us
all? The answer is to turn to God and His Word. Tell God you can’t but you know He can. Pray
and look for scripture of assurance that brings you peace like in John 14:27. Pray and look for
scriptures that affirm the presence of God is always with you such as Deuteronomy 31:6. Pray and
look for scripture that reminds you of the power of the almighty God such as Ephesians 3:20.
Stop struggling and let’s all grab hold of Gods Holy Word more! God will greatly bless you as
you draw near to Him and His Word.
Be Blessed, Pastor Mike

“I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart...” Psalm 9:1
Several times the Psalmist includes this phrase in the Psalm, (Ps. 86:12, Ps. 111:1, Ps. 138:1). What does it mean to “Praise the Lord with our whole heart? In the Bible, the heart refers to the very center of the human spirit. It is the very source of our emotions, motivations, actions and thoughts. Wow! When I praise God, do I really praise Him with ALL MY HEART? When we come to worship together on Sunday do we walk in the door already in the spirit of praise, or are we grumbling about our circumstances or just chatting idly? Remember, our public expressions of praise to God are a result of the time we have spent with Him in private!
Keep PraiSing Him!!

Now that all of us are back following the school schedule, I would like to encourage
everyone to pray for our students at school. Prayer is not hindered by locked doors
or legislation. Our prayers for all the students are just as effective in our living
room as they would be if we were standing in the halls of the school building.
I have challenged our students to live out their faith in simple ways at school. One
way is to read their Bible one day a week during lunch and pray that God would
send them someone to share Christ with. Please pray for their boldness and clarity
of thought in these occasions. Light shines brightest in a dark room!
Praying Ephesians 6:19
for all of us, especially
our youth.

Sunday, May 10th 8:30am & 11:00am Services
Thanks to everyone that stopped by our table last month to check out all the wonderful opportunities to serve in our Pre-School and Children’s Ministry. It was really exciting talking with all of you.
As I mentioned last month, Trunk N’ Treat would be here before we know it and well...IT’S HERE! I really believe Trunk N’ Treat is one of the very best opportunities we have here at WBC to reach families and children. Every year we have over 500 people here on campus, most of whom do not attend our church. This event is one of the things that drew my family and I here years ago. What an amazing gift it is to share something even sweeter than candy with these families...the love of Jesus Christ!
Please join me in making this Trunk N’ Treat our best one yet!
Blessings, Leslie
