Dear Brothers and Sisters, السالم عليكم,
On September 21st, MCC had our 50th Anniversary Gala at the Holiday Inn in Skokie. It was a grand event where we had over 1000 people attend to commemorate this auspicious occasion. Our host, journalist Ash-har Quraishi, welcomed the audience and dignitaries, which included Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, who addressed the audience to show her support for the MCC. We had our films playing throughout the evening that were written and directed by Al-Imran Husain and Jayme Covaliers. Our panel discussions by the Past-Presidents and the MCC Second Generation were inspiring as we got to see what MCC meant to all of them. We capped off the evening with awards to Amantullah Ansari and Syeda Afifa Quadri for their tireless work over the years for MCC. Our last event for the evening was "In Memoriam," which bought tears to everyone's eyes as we did a dua for those who passed away. The night's highlight was the culmination of fifty years of friendships under one roof; many who had not seen each other in over twenty-five years. People came from all over the country to be part of this event, and we cannot thank you enough for taking time out and coming back to Chicago. Flying in from both coasts tells all of us what

Annual Soup Kitchen
A group of MCC seniors has been
hosting soup kitchens for some years
now, and this is a community-building
event to highlight the work of Muslims
supporting their neighbors. The most
recent one was held at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church in Evanston on
September 8th. Middle eastern food
was served to about 100 homeless
guests by about fifteen volunteers,
which included seniors, young adults,
and kids. Alhamdulillah, the food and
hospitality were much appreciated.
The next soup kitchen is scheduled
for September 30th at the Second
Baptist Church. If anyone is interested
in volunteering, please email Rashida
Najiullah at [email protected].

On 14th September, the MEC
Women’s Committee’s Mommy and
Me program arranged a field trip at the
farm for its young members. Kids
enjoyed petting farm animals and riding
a hay truck. Children also learned about
farm animals. It was a beautiful day to
be outside, which was enjoyed by all
the participants.

On September 8, 2019, MEC Sunday
School opened its doors with much
hope and aspirations to welcome MEC
Sunday school students returning from
summer break to celebrate their first
day of Sunday School. Mixed emotions
filled the first day. Some students were
excited to see their friends after a long
time, while others were anxious to start
a new school, awaiting impatiently for
this new year to begin.
To follow the Islamic traditions to
protect the earth and to keep up with
modern times, the MEC Sunday school
administration decided to go green by
introducing the online student and staff
registration. The MEC Sunday school
community appreciated the efficiency
and convenience of paper-free
registration. Moreover, tablets were
assigned to each classroom to ease the
process of staff and student attendance
and also for posting homework
assignments. The administration is
planning to take many more green
steps in the future, In Sha Allah.
The new PTO has been very active in
providing new elements to the Sunday
school experience. They welcomed
many new and old parent volunteers
who are eager to help with the student
and parent activities planned for this
year. Though the tradition started last
