Message from the Chairman I want to welcome everyone to another exciting year of the Pacific Northwest ASNT Section. First of all, I want to thank all the Board Members for giving me the opportunity to serve as Chairman of this section. I also want to extend a special thank you to last year’s Chair‐man, Tom Davis, for all his hard work and preparations which allowed me a smooth transition into the new year. As members of this society, we have a big challenge ahead of us. In these times of economic turmoil we find many of us not working or not working as much and others working longer and longer hours on the job. Despite these challenges we still need to continue to support the local section. This support includes providing training courses to new NDT personnel, attendance and support to the sections monthly meet‐ings and increasing ASNT membership. The section is scheduling our annual Christmas Party at Jillian’s on December 9th. The section is also putting on a “Radiation Safety” seminar in March. We will also be hav‐ing some very interesting speakers at our local monthly meetings this coming year. Please keep our website‐http://www.asntpnws.org/ in your favorites to keep an eye on upcoming speakers. Our jobs provide many challenging opportunities, sometimes both physical and technical. Often they include traveling to remote loca‐tions. As we work our way through these challenges, keep your eyes open for people looking to tackle these challenges with us. Be pre‐pared to either include or mentor these new NDT folks into our com‐munity. Thank you for your active participation. Sincerely, Bill Wahmuth Pacific Northwest ASNT Chairman

We hosted our annual PNW Golf Tournament at Madrona Links in Gig Har-bor on Saturday July 18th with a Scramble Format. This year it was a per-fect sunny day and there was a great turnout with 13 teams and lots of prizes and contests. We enjoyed a great day of golf, seeing smiling faces we hadn’t seen for a while and most of us realized again why we have “real jobs”. But of course each year it is just fun to get out and play. After the golf there was the bur-ger BBQ, everyone watched the scores as they came in, some announcements were made and then the winners were recognized. The Section Chairman, Bill Wahmuth of American Boiler Works talked about the upcoming meeting in September and announced the newly elected officers of our section

Winners of this year’s tournament: First place with $50 each was the Boe‐ing Team with a score of 60! (Dan O’Neal, Gary Smith, Aaron Schumacher, Terry Hostak). Second place prize was $25 each and went to one of two teams from Seacast with a score of 62 (Rob Hopkins, Mitch Fahrney, Keith Johansen, Cliff Lindsey). Other teams playing included MPM Products, Mis‐tras Services, Seacast, American NDT Products, Exotic Metals Forming, American Boiler Works and teams made up of some other good friends in NDT. We awarded over $1000 in cash prizes for contest holes at $50 each (Several Closest to the Pin and Longest Drives) and even had a chance on hole #2 for a $10,000 prize if anyone was fortunate enough to hit a hole‐in‐one, (sorry no winner this year, but we will try again next year). Bill Meade of Boeing oversaw our putting con‐test and made it a “challenging course for skilled put‐
ters” on the practice green with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for cash. The Putting winner was Robert Hopkins of Seacast, 2nd place went to Bob Swisher of Mistras Services and 3rd place went to Ja‐son Bolerjack of Mistras Services. As part of winning the contest, Robert Hopkins had a single chance to
sink a 60 foot putt for $2500, we thought he had it, but it just missed the hole. After the winners collected their cash, we drew names for door prizes for all players and MPM Products hosted a BBQ with great burgers. All in all, for the entry fee, we have one of the best amateur “fun” golf tourna‐ments around (and we have been going to the same golf course since 1984!) For those of you who are planning ahead, next year’s tournament will be on July 17th (a Saturday). It was a great success and we want to give a huge thanks to the companies that helped sponsor this event. We all appreciate the individuals at these companies who made an effort for supporting the tournament.

Christmas Party December 9, 2008
Eleven children in addition to 20 members and guests attended the Pacific Northwest section Christmas party meeting. Even though the meeting was on a Tuesday instead of the usual Thursday attendance was good. MPM Products assisted in sponsoring the meeting. The section wishes to thank MPM Products. Held at Jillian _ s Billiard Parlor near Lake Union (located near Lake Union in downtown Seattle). A buffet dinner of meatballs, cheese quisidias, scalloped potatoes, pineapple wrapped with bacon skewers, and various cheeses was available the entire evening. A round‐robin pool tour‐nament involving 16 party goers was won by Ken Felt of Primus Interna‐tional‐University Swaging division with Bob Swisher of Mistras Group as the runner‐up. Santa Claus took time out from a busy season to visit our group. He gave presents to all of the children and adults. Members signing the guest book are eligible for the year‐end cash drawing. The thirty‐dollar door prize is being contributed to an accumulative pot that has the name of section attendees at each meeting entered. So the more meetings you attend the better your chances are at winning the pot at the end of the year. In order to win this accu‐mulative prize the winner must be a section member and present at the drawing. If we have more than 8 meetings the pot grows that much more. So 8 meetings at $30 added for each meeting is $240 minimum at the end of section year drawing. Those are better odds than the Washington State lottery, which are 1 chance in 13,983,816 of winning. This was the annual Christmas party for the Pacific Northwest section of ASNT saw friends and family enjoy each others company during a hectic holiday season.
