    submit its recommendation forMouhedin's replacement. Dr.Trimble will also submit arecommendation, and both willmove on to Dr. Shane.,* Mouhedin unmistakably left hismark on Mercyhurst in his fouryears here. During that periodthe college drew top flight dancestudents, instructors and guestartists.

    "It will be difficult to replacehim," conceded Dr. Pizzat,creative arts chairperson.

    Madame Belova, assistantdirector ofth edance department,expressed sincere sadness aboutMouhedin's resignation.

    '' I feel very bad," she said. "Iknew him in Europe."

    Mouhedin formerly was aprincipal dancer with balletcompanies in Belgium andFrance.

    Mouhedin indicated a continuing concern withthe schoolafter ne leaves.'') "I think Mercyhurst is a goodcollege," he said. "There aremany people here working tomake it grow. I'm concernedabout it growing."

    "I'm sad to leave," he added."I have a lot of friends here. Ialso can't see some of the facultywho treated me well from thebeginning." ; v | ;,

    "I can't comment on;thedecision to have the sessions,"sh eadded. "W ewere told to doit,we didit ,and we dida good job.VStalsfcy, who has done much

    committee work studying intersession, said the clinics wereseeking "c larity and some sortofmandate" on what studentsexpected. Although Stalsky saidhe, "applauded the effort," he

    also said the results were"absolutely not "(worth the expenditure ofclass time.*

    Judging from he acounts of theparticipants, noclear mandateon intersession was delivered.What the sessions generated,apparently, wasja kernel ofconviction L to make a uniqueprogram workablesurroundedby much confusion, questionablescheduling and a considerableamount of utter disinterest.

    I am getting pretty disturbed with college activities andth e advertisement of them.

    The paper "This Week", which was devisedlast fall, is a good publication, and when it firstwas put to service, was placed in commuters'mailboxes.

    Since then, very infrequently, it has beenthere, thus finding out about campus activitieshas occurred usuallyto o late to attend them. |i It would be nice if ads could be put out sooner

    THE SOCCER flTE AM faredwell over the spring break in theIndiana University-* (Pa.)Invitational Soccer T ournament.The indoor, day-long event hadteams from all over Pennsylvania competing.| Coach Dave Shimpeno's firstyear team did a good job andcame in *> second place in the Cdivision and made the playoffbracket. The first Laker victorycame when they shut-outShimpeno's hometown, Har-marville, 3-0. Gary Weber hadthe "Hat Trick** bylscoring allthree goals. |

    Later in the day, the Lakersprevailed over Shimpeno's AlmaMater, the University of Pittsburgh, 3-1. Jose Moguel notchedtwo goals and W eber added one.

    In the same division, theLakers were beaten by N.H.United2-0 tomake their record2-1, thus earning-them a playoffspot. ':>

    In first round playoff action,the Mttf Lebanon; Soccer Clubscored a 5-3 win. Once again,Weber turned the trick and accounted for all three of theLakers' goals.

    This spring, the MercyhurstCrew Program is looking morepromising than at any other tim ein the team's seven year history.

    For the first time since crewwas initiated at Mercyhurst, theteam has had the benefit oftraveling south during springbreak enabling them 'on thewater' practice time muchearlier than in previous years.

    The men's crew team and thewomen's crew club traveled to"Washington, D.C; during thespring break for a | week ofrigorous spring training.

    The members of the crewteams rowed upwards of15 milesa day, practicing in four shiftseach day, which provided formaximum water timeffor the

    men's and women's teams.The spring water time gave the

    novice oarsmen and women anopportunity to learn the Lakers'new rowing style, while the experienced team mem bers'got therust out' after a winter of tediousworkouts and weight lifting.

    The members of the m en's andwomen's teams were able tosightsee between practices andhad the honor off beirigphotographed on the steps of thecapitol buildingy withCongressman Mark LincolnMarks, freshman congressmanfrom the Erie area. CongressmanMarks' staff was responsible forthe arrangements made in theWashington area for the Mercyhurst crewtteam, making thewhole trip possible.

    The team is looking forward tosupport from /the MercyhurstCommunity during their season.The first home race is a grudgematch against the Michigan StateTeam on Saturday, April 16. Theteam invites everyone to showtheir support by comingtoftheMercy hurstJBoat House for thefirst race. ** 4

    IMany have viewed thesculptures on display in the ZurnHall lobbies, but few are awarethat the artist, Jay Marcinowski,is coach of the Mercyhurstwomen's crew team.

    A1973 graduate of M ercyhurst,Jay j has gained increasedrecognition ar an illustrator andcartoonist, having contributed toPub and T riangle magazines. Hiswork is regularly featured in theOarsman, the national magazineof' the National Association ofAmateur Oarsman. With severalsculptures on display in the Eriearea, J ay is also the illustrator ofa cookbook and a ch ildren's book,'Me and the Letters ISee.' bothsoonK to be released forpublication. |

    While at M ercyhurst, Ja yrowed as Varsity bow for twoyears and has since : beenassociated with coaches from thePrinceton and Northwesterncrews. Hisi position here is hisfirst coaching experience, havingjoined the 'Hurst programpastfall. Jay admits to being apprehensive whenfirst'appointedto the women's teamby headcoach Jack Gartner. But he wasimmediately satisfied with theabilities of the oarswomen, whichhe feels were well proventhroughout the fall season.

    The crew team is currentlyundergoing many improvementsaimed toward a better structuredprogram.One hope is to upgradethe competitiveness with theteam."Racing is the only way todevelop one's rowing," believesthe wom en's coach, who plans tocontinue the intense trainingexperience during their Springbreak trip to Washington, D.C.The trip helped to explore the

    The newest member of the'Hurst coachingstaff appreciateshis involvement with the teamand with the sport itself. Thenature of crew, he feels, enablesa-coach to see a rower developfrom an uncertain novice into anadequate oarsman and confidentindividual.

    "Crew, atits best,is 80per centconditioning and 20 per centintangible, that intangible involving the oarsman's mentalmaturity and overall attitudetoward himself, his team andwinning.
