Achievements 2006 - 2010

Aims
• To support the provision of effective alcohol misuse prevention projects for children (14 years or under)
• To promote healthy attitudes and behaviours in children
• To give public recognition for excellence in alcohol misuse prevention
• To disseminate effective practice in alcohol misuse prevention
Achievements
80,000 young people reached through six winning projects – three further winners will be announced in November 2010
£90k cash awards to 9 projects
Up to £90k worth of consultative support to nine winning projects
36 projects shortlisted as finalists from schools, community and young people led projects from across Great Britain

“Since winning the award we have expanded our work from 20 to 41 primary schools across the city and are receiving requests from other areas. We can’t overestimate the impact of winning the award”
Achievements
As a direct result of winning a CHAMP Award:– GEAAP has expanded from delivering in 38 to 100 primary
schools. “This is a direct result of winning an award”. Ten individuals from other organisations have also been
trained to deliver the programme. – Hook have been asked to present the project to seventy four
other schools in Pembrokeshire– LookOut alcohol’s website has now been adopted by
Lancashire Young People’s Service and Lancashire Constabulary as their main alcohol misuse prevention tool
– PARTY, Youth Alive, through consultancy support, has been able to raise more than £50,000 which has secured the medium term viability of the project.

Publication of ‘First Measures’ handbook. – a pioneering guide for those working in alcohol
misuse prevention with children and young people

– downloaded from the website over 3,000 times
“My colleagues and I found First Measures to be a very good simple description of what works well in primary school education” – (Senior Manager, national drug education charity)
