Dear Friends of the MAC,

Whether you’re a longtime patron of the arts or someone who has yet to really explore your creative side, we hope you will find yourself wandering into the MAC this summer. Feel like taking up a new skill or returning to a craft you lost touch with? Take one of the many classes we offer, from painting and ceramics, to song and drama, and everything in between. Curious about influential artists and artistic movements of the past and present? Come watch Exhibition On Screen with us. Want to sit back and enjoy fantastic musical performances? Attend one of our many featured events throughout the summer. Ever have a desire to explore the Columbus art scene? Wander around the MAC halls, featuring exhibitions of a variety of local artists. The MAC is your cultural center for any and all artistic and creative endeavors.

If you or your neighbors are looking for something new and exciting to do with the kids this summer, the MAC also offers exciting opportunities for youth and family enrichment through our programs that allow kids to dip their toes into the visual, performing, and literary arts.

This June, we’re also hosting the 25th Annual Worthington Arts Festival on the great lawn in front of the MAC and Thomas Worthington High School. This exciting community-wide festival brings together more than 150 artists from across the country exhibiting and selling everything from original paintings to jewelry, and includes live music and hands-on family activities for everyone to engage in throughout the weekend. Whenever you come to the MAC, great experiences await you here!

We strive to be a place that brings the community closer together and gives people the opportunity to expand their imagination through a variety of creative channels. Whatever your age, experience level, or creative interests, the MAC brings art closer to home. Jon Cook Executive Director

Celebrating its 25th year, the Worthington Arts Festival is in the second year of production and coordination by the Peggy R. Mcconnell arts center, a growing, dynamic professional community arts center serving more than 70,000 visitors annually.

The 25th annual Worthington arts festival is one of Central Ohio’s premier, community Fine Art/Fine Craft shows. The show is held on the lawn in front of the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center of Worthington, and has been ranked in sales of fine art and craft in the US by Art Fair Source Book, along with the top 200 shows in Sunshine Artist. The location draws 25,000 visitors over the two day festival. We celebrate our milestone year with additional opportunities for community engagement and audience participation. A significant portion of the proceeds benefit the downtown business association.

Join us on friday night, June 16 for a Picnic and Preview of the festival! A special preview event for picnickers only, pre-order a gourmet picnic for two, and be the first to shop booths from select artists before the Festival opens to the public on Saturday!Gourmet Picnics are $75 and include dinner for two and wine. All picnics are pre-paid only; vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Tickets go on sale in May. Checkwww.worthingtonartsfestival.comfor details.

40-stroke Paintings (6 weeks)12 to adult | all skill levelsInstructor: Jim GloverWednesdays, July 19 –august 23: 10:00am – 1:00pmOne weakness in many of our paintings is the countless “dabs” of paint that don’t “say anything.” Our goal in this class will be to see how many of those unnecessary strokes we can eliminate. We’ll set up simple still life arrangements, then paint them in bold, juicy swaths of paint, counting as we go. Our limit? 40 individual brush strokes to complete our painting. This forces us to sacrifice the unessential for the vital marks needed to tell our visual story to our viewers. Sound like fun? It is, and a great way to grow as an artist!

FEE: $210 / MAC MEMBERS: $189Supplies list available on website or at Blick Art Supplies on Sawmill Rd. Approx. $50-100. usual painting gear in medium of choice; canvas panels or boards in 4” x 6”, 5” x 7” or 6” x 8” sizes; masking or painter’s tape; optional: might consider Art Cocoon carrier to better paint all parts of small canvases (http://www.myartcocoon.com) or consider taping them to a larger board for convenience in handling wet paintings.

Volunteer spotlight: Integral and Interesting Interns! You may have noticed that there are always fresh faces in the office at the Mac. Utilizing unpaid student interns in all areas of programming, the Mac offers a professional experience to explore student interests and further develop talents. this spring we had a full house from the ohio state University!

Kris skarupa is a senior in Early and Middle Childhood Studies. She has focused on developing hands-on activities for the upcoming Worthington Arts Festival among other education-related activities at the MAC. Kris hopes to find a career in a nonprofit arts center, specifically working with youth and child programming. What Kris finds unique about the MAC is how it embraces all forms of artistic expression—offering something for everyone. On track to graduate early from OSU, Kris loves that the MAC “provides a place for people to grow their artistic abilities and express creativity.” If she’s not at the MAC, you can also find Kris at one of her other internships at the Wexner Center and the Columbus Museum of Art.

Kris Roberts is a first-year graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in Arts Policy and Administration. He has been working with exhibitions at the MAC and learning the administrative ropes by creating studio policies and teacher manuals. Coming off of 2 years in AmeriCorps Vista, he has a passion for work that gives back to the community, and is excited to play an impactful role developing policy at the MAC. “I wanted to be in a place that helps people enjoy their lives in a creative setting…” If you see Kris around the MAC, ask him about his impressive knitting skills. He could even teach you how to knit in Dutch, but only if you’re familiar with the Belgian dialect.

Maren has always had a passion for making arts and culture accessible to the public. “The ability for a community to have this hub for any and all creative endeavors is extremely important… ” After graduating this spring, Maren will be moving to Dublin, Ireland to pursue a Master’s degree in Public History from Trinity College Dublin.

Kara overfield is a senior in Early and Middle Childhood Studies and has been working on a variety of educational initiatives, from reaching out to home schools in central Ohio, to creating hands-on reading activities for kids in the upcoming Worthington Arts Festival. When asked what drew her to the MAC, she remarked that the diversity of tasks available here provide opportunities for learning and growth in an awesome environment that aren’t available in a lot of other internship sites around Columbus. When she’s not at the MAC, catch Kara coaching youth volleyball or hustling on the courts herself.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing interns! Your contributions enrich the MAC experience for our patrons and extends our organization’s impact.

Great art depends on two things: inspiration and expression. Anything can provide the inspiration. But the quality of the expression depends on the passion, skill, discipline and commitment of the artist.

At Hamilton Capital Management, we’re inspired by our clients and their dreams, and we apply our passion, skill, discipline and commitment to helping make those dreams come true with sound, dynamic, comprehensive investment strategies.

It’s not art, but it feels that way to us. And if it helps you achieve your dreams, it can feel that way to you, too.
