History● The plan was to aid European economies after the destruction of WWII. ● George Marshall believed that in order to get political stability the
countries must have a stable economy. ● Economic relief was only in western europe. ● Overall the US spent about $12.5 billion to give economic aid to western

Non Soviet-Bloc European Nations
● 16 countries total participated in the Marshall Plan. They were mostly non soviet-bloc european nations. The soviets withdrew from the Marshall Plan early on and because of this were later followed by the other eastern European nations under this influence.
Advantages and Disadvantages ● A total of 16 countries took part in the Marshall Plan. Mostly all non
soviet-bloc European nations(except Spain) received aid.
Benefits ● The plan was a huge success. It increased production levels in Europe and
enhanced trade, not just between Europe and the United States but also among the nations of Europe.
Benefits ● By 1949, Truman was able to propose an expanded version of the plan to
benefit other, less developed regions of the world. What became known as the Four Point Plan.

Great idea● Stopped potential spread of communism● Increased relations with western europe ● Also helped US markets with opened up trade● Including Russia was nearly impossible with their demands
