The Magistrate Video Project (MVP)

The Problem

Each turn of a police car’s tire is money spent and resources consumed. (LOWER EXPENSES)

Travel time behind the wheel is inevitable, but can’t technology reduce it? (GREATER EFFICIENCY and

IMPROVED RESPONSIVENESS)

Criminal activity doesn’t fall neatly into “business hours” only. (IMPROVED RESPONSIVENESS)

The magistrate’s office may not be staffed or on the way to the jail. (INCREASED FLEXIBILITY)

The Magistrate Video Project (MVP) seeks to use video technology to ease these

very practical burdens on the state’s criminal justice system.

What partners and colleagues are saying about MVP……

“Our agency has used the video phone a number of times. It has been a real time and

gasoline saver. This is especially important in our current economic climate.”

Chief John Green, Franklinton Police Department

“We are continuing to use the video phones daily in Jackson County. All three of our

magistrates are now using the VP/ laptop combination to conduct initial appearances off-

site. I have stopped keeping a log of my VP usage but I would guess that I’m nearing 100

uses. Last night, for example, Magistrate Holcombe conducted 6 after hour’s off-site initial

appearance using the VP. I can not express how efficient this technology has made our

office. Our law enforcement can process an after hours arrest in minutes as opposed to

waiting hours on us.”

Magistrate Nick Henry, Jackson County
