Welcome to Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church

We are glad to have you worship with us today. If something you encounter while you are here moves you to want to know more, there are always leaders up front near the platform at the end of the service to talk to you, pray with you, and help you in any way they can. Pastor Welden will also be greeting at the front door. Let us know if this is your first visit, and if you would like more information about SAPC.

All Those in Attendance Today are asked to complete the tear-off

card on the back of this worship guide. The cards may be placed in the offering basket or handed to an usher after the service.

Available for Your Children Our ushers are available to assist you with any of the following:

• Nursing Room: A room is available on the first floor (#104) for nursing mothers.

• Nursery: A fully-staffed nursery for children younger than K4 is available on the first floor.

• Children’s Worship: Children in K4 & K5 will be invited to children’s worship at an appropriate point in the service (indicated in the order of worship). They will use the exit to the front right of the sanctuary.

• Children’s Bulletins: Age-appropriate children’s bulletins are available.

For Your Comfort: Elevators are located outside the double doors on both sides of the front of the sanctuary. To help all participate fully in the service, amplification devices are available by request from an usher. Restrooms may be found at the back of the sanctuary or out the double doors at the front right of the sanctuary.

Digital Devices If you have brought a digital device into today’s service, please take a moment to make sure you have turned it off, or to vibrate, so that we may all worship without interruption.

Sermons: If you’d like to listen to the sermon again or listen to one you’ve missed, you may sign up for our podcast, listen online (sapc.net) or request a CD by contacting Jomona Williamson in the Worship & Arts Ministry office ([email protected], 803-888-1716).

Prayer Updates are sent out on The City. To inquire by phone, call our offices (732-2273) during business hours. (The SAPC offices open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m., except for Friday, when offices close at 2:00 p.m.)

For Emergency Pastoral Care during non-office hours, call 803-318-6136.

CALL TO WORSHIP

John 17:1-5 When Jesus had spoken these words, He lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son that the Son may glorify You, since You have given Him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom You have given Him. And this is eternal life that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I glorified You on earth, having accomplished the work that You gave Me to do. And now, Father, glorify Me in Your Own presence with the glory that I had with You before the world existed.

5. Q. Are there more Gods than one? A. There is but one only,

the living and true God. 6. Q. How many persons are there in the Godhead? A. There are three persons

This Week’s Mission Focus:

Across the Street, Across the Country, Across the World

Praying for Missionaries

Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. ” (Matthew 9:37-38) Not all of us can physically go to the far-flung corners of this world, but there are men and women who have answered the call to “go.” Those of us who cannot go in person should still have the same commitment to win the lost. We, too, must have a burden and love for the lost humanity. We must also develop a strong prayer support system for our missionaries. You may ask, “How can I pray for the missionaries? What are their needs? How do I pray for someone so far away whom I do not know and perhaps may never see?”

• Pray for the missionaries’ personal needs. Call their name in prayer. Pray for the missionary children by name. (See the 2018 SAPC Mission Focus Beacon)

• Pray for the effective ministry of the

missionaries. The Lord is able to open doors that are seemingly locked tight—if we but pray!

• Relationships are very important to all of us,

even more so in the life of missionaries. Many times they have very few close friends, perhaps just their family. Ask the Lord to keep the missionaries’ families knit together—husband and wife, parent and child.

• Pray for the countries where the

missionaries live and minister. Include in that prayer the governmental leaders of the nations and the political situations.

• Pray knowledgeably. Learn all you can about

the mission work in general and any one or two, missionaries in particular. Focus on a specific missionary family, rather than just the generalization of praying for all the missionaries.

CHORAL CONFESSION OF SIN Arise, My Soul, Arise Forrest

Arise, my soul, arise, shake off thy guilty fears: The bleeding Sacrifice in my behalf appears Before the throne, my surety stands. My name is written on His hands. Five bleeding wounds He bears, received on Calvary. They pour effectual prayers. They strongly plead for me: “Forgive him, O, forgive,” they cry, “Nor let that ransomed sinner die.” My God is reconciled, His pardoning voice I hear. He owns His child, I can no longer fear. With confidence I now draw nigh, And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry. Arise, my soul, arise!

As you leave the service today, the ushers will be receiving a special offering for local benevolence inside and outside the church.

PRAYERS FOR THOSE NOT TAKING THE LORD’S SUPPER

St. Andrews Presbyterian Church welcomes all baptized Christians who are willing to

forsake their sin and trust in Jesus for salvation, and who are members of

congregations that proclaim the gospel, to receive the Holy Communion with us. If

you are not able to receive Communion, please use this time to meditate on one of

the following prayers:

Prayer for Those Searching for Truth Lord Jesus, You claim to be the

way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the

cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what

You claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the

reality of who You are. Give me an understanding of You that is

coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life You promise. Amen.

Prayer of Belief Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more

sinful than I ever dared admit, but through You I am more loved and

accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank You for paying my debt on

the cross, taking what I deserve in order to offer me complete

forgiveness. Knowing that You have been raised from the dead, I turn

from my sins and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Amen.

‡All communion elements are gluten-free.
