The Fear of Falling BY: SOLOMON DAVID SENIOR MINISTER, BCCC Several years ago Randy Reid, a 34-year-old welder, was working near the top of a newly constructed water tower outside Chicago when he slipped and fell 110 feet. Barely missing rocks and debris, Reid landed in a six-foot pile of soft sand near the base of the tower. Co-workers called 911 and within minutes the rescue crew was on the scene. Miraculously a bruised lung was the only injury the construction worker sustained. Ironically while he was being carried to the ambulance on a stretcher (about 3 feet above the ground) he looked into the faces of the paramedics and nervously pleaded, "Please don't drop me." The guy falls off an eleven story water tower and lives, only to be concerned about a stretcher ride a couple feet above the pavement. How often do we find ourselves questioning God's ability to carry us? The health of our marriage, our children's safety, the loneliness of involuntary singleness, politics in the country, politics in the church, our aging parents, sky rocketing college tuition, job security, investments gone sour, rejection, depression. It is easy to feel overwhelmed with fears and cry out, "Please God, don't drop me." When you realize the ultimate fall from which God has saved us, the fall of sin, our fears of being dropped from the stretcher, our concerns and worries are unfounded. It has been encouraging for me to hear how the current series has helped many of you get much better sleep because you have more peace. We have a Father who more than anything wants his children to feel secure and confident in His love for us and his ability to take care of us. As I look at my own children, I can only imagine what a failure I would feel like if they were all three worrying frantically about things out of their control. On the contrary, the very reason they can enjoy their days without much worry is because they know they have a father and a mother who is watching out for them and sensitive to their needs. We have a Father who promises to never leave or forsake His children. The confidence this brings should provide all the reason we need to not be up at night so much. It’s that time of the year again! On the evening of August 16th, here on the church lawn we are going to be having our fantastic Ice Cream Social Burgers & Dogs celebration.

Save the date. It will take place immediately following our Annual Meeting here. We roll out all the stops, and bring in the big tent, ice cream trucks, inflatables, wagon rides, and an all church meal. So much fun and a tremendous opportunity to connect and celebrate as a congregation.

This event is for everyone. We hope everybody will come and enjoy this evening. It’s all free! Can’t get any better than that. We hope you come. It’s a great

opportunity to meet some of our newer folks as well. If you are interested in helping me set-up or tear down, I will have a sign-up sheet at our Connecting Point. Help is always fun and very appreciated. Don’t miss it!

Sincerely,

Curt TuranchickConnection Minister

Austin Roach, youth ministry major at Kentucky Christian University, is doing a great job working with our students. If you haven’t had an opportunity to sit down for a meal with Austin, call the church office to make arrangements or email him at [email protected].

This day is for those who are a “Senior Adult” but consider yourself “Young at Heart.” Registration fee is $12. Check-In is 9:00am and Legacy Day ends at 2:30pm. Stop by the Connecting Point for more info.

Our annual Congregational Meeting is August 16th at 5pm in the Worship Center. Following the meeting there will be ice cream, burgers and dogs under the big tent along with outdoor games and wagon rides. Come to the meeting and stay for fun, food, and fellowship!

3. CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

Come near to GODand He will come near to you...

You may know that my son, Brandon, is the Youth Minister at Wabash Friends Church. What you might not know is that Brandon and Aaron do a lot things together with our respective youth groups, including the recent CIY trip to Michigan.

The morning that they left for CIY I watched as Aaron, Brandon, and two other youth ministers addressed the teens attending. When it was Brandon’s turn, he tried to put things in perspective for the time they were to come back home.

He said that this trip would be a spiritual high for them, as it always is, but the high would diminish when they come back home. The reason…? The week ahead of them was designed to seek GOD, to draw closer to HIM. A concentrated effort on behalf of the CIY staff,

student ministers and leaders, and the students themselves. The only way for them to keep the overwhelming feeling of closeness to GOD was to continue in the effort to personally draw close to HIM.

He’s right! And guess what… that works for adults too! If You want to feel a closer relationship with God, it’s going to take some work on your part. Talk to HIM regularly (pray). Listen to what HE has to say (read HIS word). Praise HIM with abandonment! Confess HIM to others. Love HIM as the most important relationship in your life.

“Come near to God and he will come near to you.” James 4:8

RAINBOW CHRISTIAN CAMP

IS NOW THE ARK CHRISTIAN

MINISTRIES!

“ I n m a k i n g s o m e l e g a l adjustments to our tax exempt documents, we were confronted with the name question. Currently, we're legally Pearson's Mill Christian Assembly doing business as (DBA) Rainbow Christian Camp. This confuses foundations, who often dismiss us out of hand.

On October 20, 2014 at the Annual Meeting, the Board of Directors officially changed our name to The Ark Christian Ministries.

With this name, we will continue telling the story of the saving grace of God and His promises for His people.

Rest assured that whatever Biblical name we call ourselves, we will always hold to our core values, being: BIBLE-BASED, C H R I S T- C E N T E R E D , a n d MISSION-MINDED.”

GLORIFYING GOD THROUGHChanged Lives

We are blessed at this church with men and women who love God and want to serve Him with all of their heart. I think I get to serve alongside some of the finest in Tiny Town and Awana! I am so thankful for these volunteers who love God and love kids!

We had several sign up to join us for the 2015/2016 Awana season! Brad and I have prayed long and hard for just the right couple to lead our Jr High Trek Club that will begin this fall. We are pleased to announce that Todd and Krissa Schindler heard that call and have signed on! We have a great staff and are set to begin on September 2! We could still use a few mentor coaches that would be partnered with a child or two each evening to help them one on one learn

their verses. We have a few kids who attend Awana that need some extra help. This would be a perfect way for a senior citizen to serve. There is no preparation needed, just a loving and kind spirit to walk alongside a child. Please see us if this interests you!

All children must register for Awana each year. Please stop by the Tiny Town counter and fi l l out a registration form for your child. Awana is for kids ages 3 through 8th grade. Awana is entering a kickball team in the Kick it for Karsyn event on Saturday, September 19 in the afternoon. If your 1st-7th grader would like to be on this team, please sign up at the Tiny Town counter. We also need financial sponsors. You may pledge your donation or

drop it off at the Tiny Town counter as well. We will be hosting a cookout at the home of Brad and Carmen Fleck on Sunday, August 23 at 5 p.m. for all Awana staff and their families. We will use this time to prepare you for the upcoming season and to fellowship together. Please bring a side, salad or dessert to share and possibly a lawn chair.

Tiny Town is still in need of substitute teachers. We have a great need for volunteers who would be available to fill in for teachers during vacation or illness. Please see Carmen Fleck if you would like to be added to this list.
